AFC Championship - Patriots Hold Off Jags (2 Viewers)

I grew up in CT, in the shadow of the Patriots success, as a kid rooting for the abysmal Redskins. I used to hate the Patriots. After 3 SBs I started just appreciating the greatness, even though I live in Boston and can't stand most NE sports fans.

Another post complaining about a call. Fitting.
You realize the biggest problem fans have is the dishonesty of NE fans to the blatant lean of the refs, right?

Its bad enough it happens, it’s even worse the fans can’t admit it. It’s ok. You have an advantage and get away with it.

Not sure why people don't want Pats in this SB. Really need the heel or else it's two teams where no one outside the market for that team cares if they win.

Matt Patricia is literally a rocket scientist who wanted to coach football. Reason #886 why this franchise always seems to pull it off.

The irony coming from an ND fan who has to hear this same crap a lot.

If the eagles lose, I will not be watching the super bowl.

The Pats make me sick to my stomach. One of the worst organizations in football.

LOL at all the complaining about the refs.  I'm a Steeler fan and didn't  notice any of the "bad calls" you guys saw.  I can't imagine watching a game just fuming about the "rigged" game.

Running the numbers based on the entire season . . .

JAX: (26.2 ppg on offense) + (+4.2 adjusted ppg on offense ) + (18.2 ppg NE allowed) + (-2.6 adjusted ppg for NE defense) / 2 = 23.0 points.
NE: (29.0 ppg on offense) + (6.9 adjusted ppg on offense) + (17.4 ppg JAX allowed) + (-3.6 adjusted ppg for JAX defense) / 2 = 24.9 points

With NE having + 3 for home field advantage, the projected outcome would be NE 28 JAX 23.

To explain the methodology, the offensive and defensive adjustments come from removing the outcome of the game played against each opponent and then tallying the results. For example, in the game between NE and NOS, the Patriots scored 13 points more than the Saints allowed in their other games. And the Patriots defense allowed 8.4 fewer points than the Saints averaged in their other games. Rinse and repeat for every game, divide by the number of games, and end up with the adjustment.

It should be noted that the Jaguars now have 8 defensive return TD's on the season. For this exercise, those points are counted as offensive points for Jacksonville. That boosted the Jags weekly scoring by 3.1 ppg.
Pretty close.

People were crying about the hit on Gronk and the delay of game that were both obvious penalties.  That's why it's hilarious.

True...though the same few seem to complain in every thread even at legit calls against NE opponents or legit calls against them.

There were 25 holds at least by the NE OL, and 5 obvious ones in big situations not called.  Just bs.  Steelers fan too.

People like you are the reason these leagues rig games. Learn to appreciate sports for the competition, not the entertainment.

Aside from the sketch PI call at the end of the first half, I didn't notice any terrible officiating, other than a few holds missed on both OLs.

I hate New England.

There's a certain level of appreciation due to a franchise that's run circles around the competition for almost 20 years. It's not just an evil empire storyline. It's greatness in a sport with lots of parity.

   I'm a dolphins fan.   People are such haters.   I stopped caring that much about football where all my objectivity was lost a long time ago.

I don’t care if you hate NE, but Brady going to 12 AFC championships with 8 SB appearances and at least 5 SB titles in 16 seasons as a starter is on another level. 50% SB appearances.
