AFCCG: Steelers at Patriots Discussion (1 Viewer)

This is essentially what I tried saying for about ten pages. What were the Steelers going to do differently? If the answer was nothing, they would be in big trouble.
I think most agreed with you... just assumed the Steelers wouldn't try the same #### again.

Before this game, I gave way too much credit to the Steelers' coaching staff.  I thought for SURE there's no way they'd try to attack the Patriots the same way that hasn't worked before.  Zone defense, rarely blitzing doesn't work.  New coordinator, but the same defensive strategy and the same results.  No wrinkles, no changes, no imagination.

Losing Bell sucks, but this game wasn't lost because of that.  It was lost because the Steelers defense has no ability to man up and play.  It's not like they're offering even slightest bit of resistance.  Wide open receivers and blown coverates on every play.  Every.  Single.  Play.

Congrats to the Pats and their fans.  Hopefully the Falcons can give you more of a game in two weeks.

Really you can't cover Chris @@@@@@@ hogan, embarrassing. Bravo Keith butler for not doing anything different on def. Nice tackling too defense...piss poor

Hogan is 9-180-2 TDs....same exact stats as Julio Jones today.  But, NE has a quarter to go.

Here are three scenarios:

1) One team loses because of sloppy or fluky turnovers. If either team finishes with a two-turnover advantage, they win. Predicting which team might do this is a coin flip so I'll set this scenario aside.

2) The Patriots continue their mental domination of the Steelers. They don't have the same level of talent as the Steelers but playing at home and with their brain trust, the Pats could out-scheme the Steelers to victory. The weak links are Mike Mitchell and Ross Cockrell so look for Brady to throw their way all game. I think this leads to a tight win because the Pittsburgh offense should be able to keep it close. But home-field advantage and the coaching edge could easily carry the Patriots to a 31-27 type win.

3) This Patriots team is more evenly balanced in terms of offense and defense than in years past, but neither unit is scary. They've been winning some blowout games, true, but they have not really faced stiff competition lately either. Add to that Brady's propensity to get antsy under the slightest bit of pressure, and the Steelers defense could be the difference. Without as many weapons on offense because of Gronkowski's injury, Pittsburgh could bottle up the Pats offense and frustrate Brady. Better yet, they could rattle him to the point of completely disrupting the game plan. If the offense rolls, it's a double-digit Steelers win. But Ben hasn't been good on the road, so more likely the Steelers win a close, defensive game 20-19.

The Steelers were my preseason pick to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl so I'll stick to my guns and call for scenario #3: 20-19 Steelers.
Looks like it is scenario two with the variation of the Steelers offense coming up small. Steelers defense was way over-rated, and the NE coaching edge is massive.

Still completely baffled by the defensive effort.  If your DBs can't play man to man, then at least jam the WRs before dropping into zone coverage.

"He might have gone out of bounds and came back in to catch the pass..."

You think? What was your first clue? The ref that threw a hat at his feet, or the two flags that were thrown with no sign of any contact between WR and DB?

And to think this is without Gronk.  Always amazes me throughout the year how dominant is the NE offense with some random dudes that would just be average at best on any other team.

Jesus Christ Ben.  The bars in Boston don't close until later...no need to try to get out of the stadium early.

Those 2 running plays on this drive were ####### stupid given the game circumstances... just terrible.  Good luck in the SB NE fans.
