Ahmad Bradshaw Out Indefinitely (1 Viewer)

Giants | Ahmad Bradshaw is progressing

Wed, 23 Nov 2011 17:45:21 -0800

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said Wednesday, Nov. 23, that RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) is "progressing.", but he is unsure if the back will be ready to practice Friday, Nov. 25. Bradshaw said last week he would "definitely" try to come back for the Week 12 game against the New Orleans Saints, but Coughlin said Monday that Bradshaw was not yet cleared by doctors to practice.

Giants | Ahmad Bradshaw unlikely for Week 12

Tue, 22 Nov 2011 08:18:10 -0800

New York Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) appears unlikely of playing in the team's Week 12 game. Head coach Tom Coughlin is not looking to rush Bradshaw back from injury. "We've waited for Ahmad, and rightfully so," Coughlin said. "I don't know that (the doctors) are just going to give us the green light. When they do and they say he can play and he can take a hit, he's going to be sore for the rest of the season, but that he'll be able to come back and play the following week, then we'll take that into consideration as well."

Alright... enough of this. I've got 2 playoff teams hinging on him coming back... what's the scoop?

He didn't practice today (wed)... and is currently "Questionable" for week 13.

Anyone have any insight here on when we can expect to see him back? Week 14? Week 15?

From RW:The New York Daily News reports the Giants do not expect Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) to return against the Packers.Bradshaw is being re-evaluated today, but New York is not expecting good news. That, of course, is very bad news for the Giants' floundering rushing attack, which has all but ground to a halt with Brandon Jacobs as lead back. Jacobs is averaging only 48.5 yards per game and 3.2 yards on 61 carries as New York's starter the past few weeks. He's unlikely to find much success against Green Bay's 13th ranked run defense.

New York Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw Plans To Play Sunday

AHMAD BRADSHAW, NEW YORK GIANTS, NFL | COMMENT New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw insists he feels well enough to play Sunday when the Green Bay Packers visit New York, according to ESPN.com. Bradshaw has missed the last four games with a stress fracture in his foot.

"I feel good," Bradshaw said Wednesday, according to ESPN. "I plan on playing."

The Giants are 1-3 in Bradshaw's absence, losing three straight. Brandon Jacobs has shouldered much of the load, and he has not been too effective.

Bradshaw said that he will probably not practice this week, for fear of re-aggravating the injury.

"I don't want to," he said. "I wanna be as healthy as I can on Sunday.

Although no official decisions have been made, Tom Coughlin all but ruled Osi Umenyiora out for Sunday's game against the Packers. Ahmad Bradshaw and Michael Boley, however, both said they are likely to play.

Bradshaw, who has missed the last four games with a cracked bone in his foot, said he does not want to practice this week and is saving himself up for Sunday. Asked if he has a shot to play in that game, Bradshaw said he has "a big shot."

"I feel good," he said. "I'm planning on playing."

Boley has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury. Last week he spoke about not wanting to rush back but Wednesday he said he was "hopeful" about playing. He did some running and drills with trainers on the side and stretched with the team during practice.

As for Umenyiora, it seems not even Coughlin's optimism will get him on the field against the Packers.

"I can say [that he is] day-to-day all I want, but chances are he'll not make this one," Coughlin said.

A source familiar with Umenyiora's injury said that the defensive end is likely to miss the next two games and possibly more

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Starting running back Ahmad Bradshaw intends to return from a four-game absence when the New York Giants play host to the unbeaten Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

"I feel good," Bradshaw said Wednesday. "I plan on playing."

Bradshaw broke a bone in his foot on Oct. 30. The Giants (6-5) averaged just 76.5 rushing yards per game, on 3.15 yards per carry, in November. They have lost three consecutive games.

Bradshaw isn't likely to practice this week.

"I don't want to," he said. "I wanna be as healthy as I can on Sunday.

"Maybe I'll try to run a little bit this week and see how it feels. Then Friday, if I can get out there and practice a little bit, maybe so. I just wanna be healthy toward the end of the week, so when Sunday comes there's not a lot of pain and I can rest the bone."

During a blowout loss in New Orleans on Monday night, Brandon Jacobs gained 46 yards on 13 carries, and D.J. Ware rushed five times for 23 yards.

Analysis: New York has been in a terrible decline since Bradshaw got hurt and could really use him on Sunday to help stop the bleeding. It's good that the trainers are evaluating Bradshaw's status, but unless he is back at practice on Thursday, then there is nothing to get overly excited about just yet. Players talk all the time about being able to play through injury, but in the end this comes down to a coach's decision.

The team needs him so I am sure he will play as soon as he is physically capable. As someone who has had a stress fracture in my foot, I can tell you, it doesn't heal fast. To be honest, I don't expect him this week. Maybe next week. More likely, it will be week 15 before he is back.

I'm also not buying Bradshaw's "big shot" call until he starts to practice. Which again, I doubt happens this week. If he doesn't come back, I think Ware could be in for another big day in PPR as the G-Men will be playing catchup all game long.

Thing is in past years he's not practiced all week and played. One good thing is the Giants have been good about declaring him inactive on Fridays rather than trying to be sneaky and label him as a game time decision.

its sad, but I think had the Giants gotten Reggie Bush instead of resigned Bradshaw in offseason they would have been far better off. Reggie Bush would be great for this offense.

http://stressfracturefoot.org/stress-fracture-foot-treatment/

This makes it sound like 6 weeks is typical recovery time with no special drugs. With special drugs such as athletes get, it could be half that time to manage the pain. But full recovery is longer. Based on this, I am guessing it will be week 15 when Bradshaw returns.

"The severity of the fracture will be decisive in the best treatment option. Whilst top athletes will invariably be prescribed bone growth accelerators, this is not the norm for most patients, with them being deemed unnecessary in most cases. The use of such treatments is likely to halve the recovery period from around 6 weeks to 3 weeks, allowing athletes to resume training sooner and get back to their game in the least amount of time. Whilst 6 weeks is the time frame for the cessation of all pain, the healing process will continue for up to 6 months and quite possibly even longer. The recovery time will vary from patient to patient, and on the severity and location of the fracture."

It was a cracking around a screw. It might not be as severe. My concern is that he is just going to have chronic problems, that perhaps his bones are not strong enough for him to hold up to the rigors of the NFL.

 You must be kidding.. Bradshaw is perfect for this offense
When healthy, I for sure take him. I dont think he is healthy though and screws in foot sounds like a continuing issue for the following years.Just saying the only other team interested in him before season was the Dolphins, so had they gotten him we could have had Bush pretty cheaply.

great formatting as always.

Does anybody know if Bradshaw travelled with the team to New Orleans????? I just want to confirm something...
The reason I asked this is that I was in New Orleans on Monday and I went for a walk up Canal Street at around 11:00 am and, while walking, i passed a man that was talking to three Giants fans (two girls and a guy) on Canal...he then hugged the two girls and continued walking down Canal. I am quite certain it was Bradshaw...and when he walked away, he had no noticeable limp.

2:16pm - December 1, 2011New York Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) was doing some light running on the sidelines but was not participating in practice Thursday, Dec. 1. He said he plans to play in Week 13.

per Dave Roberts, Giants beat reporter:

Ahmad Bradshaw practices for first time since suffering stress fracture in his foot Oct. 30 vs. Dolphins Maybe he will play after all. #nyg

Also from Patricia Traina, Giants beat reporter:

Bradshaw, BTW, did some individual drills. Big step forward for him.

per Ohm Youngmisuk, ESPN Giants reporter:

Coughlin said Bradshaw looked good and team will wait to see how he feels in morning. #NYG

Not directly about Bradshaw...but Desmond Bishop and AJ Hawk have not practiced at all this week. Looking like GB will be on backups for their inside linebackers.

That's good news although I wouldn't play him unless I had no other good alternative. Hopefully this means we will be able to count on him in week 1 of fantasy playoffs.

For once I am happy to have Jacobs, I have them both and can wait until the last minute news. If Bradshaw is a go he definitely gets the go instead of jacobs....and I have no better options.

The Giants could get some much-needed reinforcements Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. Running back Ahmad Bradshawand linebacker Michael Boley took big steps Friday toward returning to play.

Both players participated on a limited basis in practice and are officially listed as questionable. Bradshaw, however, declared in the locker room after practice that he plans to be on the field Sunday.

"I'm ready to go, man," Bradshaw said.

The practice was Bradshaw's first since he suffered another stress fracture in his right foot against the Dolphins on Oct. 30. Bradshaw had a team-high 440 yards rushing before his injury, including the only 100-yard rushing game the Giants have this season, 104 yards against Buffalo. The Giants have totaled only 195 yards rushing (2.87 yards per carry) in the most recent three games of the four Bradshaw has sat out.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin was a little more cautious when discussing Bradshaw's situation, saying the decision will depend on what doctors have to say and how Bradshaw feels Saturday.

"He did OK. He went and worked. He's telling me all the things I want to hear," Coughlin said.

both from NJ.com

Ahmad Bradshaw, who has said he plans on playing this Sunday, practiced today for the first time since fracturing his foot against the Miami Dolphins in Week 8 the day before Halloween. Though Bradshaw said he'd rather not have to practice, Giants coach Tom Coughlin said the running back would need to practice at some point this week in order to play on Sunday so this, obviously, is a huge step in the right direction — though we'll find out later how much he participated.

During stretching Bradshaw got attention from trainers and tried on a couple different cleats before settling on a pair. He then jogged some and participated in drills during the media portion of the practice.

Ahmad Bradshaw was a limited participant in practice today and, after experiencing little pain, he seems to be on track to return to the field for the

Giants
on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

"He did okay. He went and worked," Tom Coughlin said. "He's telling me all the things I want to hear. But he did okay, did all right. We'll see how he is in the morning."

Bradshaw, who is listed as questionable, was relieved to be back to practice today for the first time since suffering another stress fracture in his foot against the Dolphins on Oct. 30. Coughlin said Bradshaw would have to practice before he plays.

"I think I satisfied him," Bradshaw said, "and I satisfied myself as well."

Asked whether he can take Bradshaw's word for how he feels, Coughlin replied, "I saw what I saw and that's what we'll go on, and what the trainers and doctors tell me in the morning as to what he can do and what he can't do. We'll listen to all of that before we make a decision."

He added, "He wants to play, he wants to do it, he's tried to do everything we've asked him to do. Today he practiced enough. We'll see how he did."

We'll have more from, and on, Bradshaw later here and in Saturday's paper.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.—Sure, he's missed four games. And sure, he has a fracture in his right foot, but Ahmad Bradshaw tried to say earlier in the week he wouldn't need to practice to (finally) suit up Sunday.

He forgot his coach is Tom Coughlin.

"I think I satisfied him," Bradshaw said with a smile Friday after, you guessed it, he practiced. It wasn't a full go, but he worked on his timing, tested out his foot and declared himself ready to go.

The good news couldn't come soon enough for the 6-5 Giants. They're going to need everything they have to stop both this three-game losing streak and the 11-0 Packers. The Giants' run game hasn't looked good all year, but it's definitely stalled without Bradshaw, and Coughlin didn't soft-pedal in saying his starting running back's return would be a big spark "for sure."

Besides watching for Bradshaw and his impact, here's what to look for Sundayafternoon.

With a lingering/pain management type injury what is the point of pounding it more than necessary during the week. As long as Bradshaw knows the playbook (which he does) his being able to run and participate to the satisfaction of coach is all he needs. Save it for the game I say.

Bradshaw 'ready to go' in Week 13: Giants RB Ahmad Bradshawproclaimed himself "ready to go" after completing his first practice since suffering a foot injury back in Week 8 against the Dolphins. Bradshaw, who has missed the last four games with his injury, is officially listed as questionable heading into Week 13 against the Packers. “I am happy to be out there,” he told the New York Daily News. “I felt great.” Green Bay enters Sunday's contest ranked 13th in run defense, allowing 105.5 yards per game.

(Updated 12/02/2011)Injury ReportFoot - Questionable for Week 13 vs. Green Bay

(Updated - 12/2/11)Fantasy AnalysisBradshaw has been pushing to get back on the field and appears he might finally be able to this weekend. However, the bigger test will be how his foot feels on Saturday and Sunday, so Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his status leading up to when inactives are released. Still even if he plays, Bradshaw could be limited against a Green Bay team, that is allowing an average of 16.3 Fantasy points per week. Consider Bradshaw a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy RB, if he is able to suit up on Sunday.

(Updated 12/02/2011).

Ahmad Bradshaw gets injured foot back in door as he returns to practice, planning to play on Sunday.

His teammates knew it. They could tell from the way Ahmad Bradshaw carried himself this week, walking less gingerly and promising everyone that he had “a big shot” to play against the Packers.

The Giants’ top tailback was finally ready to return to action.

“He pretty much told us,” said wideout Hakeem Nicks. “We had the vibe that he was going to play. That was the vibe that we had from him all week.”

On Friday, Bradshaw gave off more than a vibe, providing the Giants with a reason to believe their beleaguered ground game will finally gain a pulse. For the first time in more than a month, he returned to the Giants’ practice field, working through a limited session. He then pronounced himself “ready to go” for Sunday’s game against Green Bay, saying that his broken right foot did not bother him.

“I am happy to be out there,” he said. “I felt great.”

Officially Bradshaw is listed as questionable, so there remains a chance that he sits out. Tom Coughlin said the Giants will inspect Bradshaw’s foot today, likely to see if he experiences pain the day after his first strenuous activity.

But the fact that Bradshaw practiced for the first time since he injured the foot in October was a positive sign. On a handful of occasions over the past few weeks, Bradshaw hinted that he might try to play, only to be declared inactive. Coughlin has repeatedly insisted that the tailback survive a practice before thinking about getting into a game, and Bradshaw finally fulfilled that wish on Friday.

“He wants to play, he wants to do it,” Coughlin said. “He’s tried to do everything that we’ve asked him to do, and today he practiced enough.”

Bradshaw didn’t work through a full session, but he did show considerable progress, and he didn’t treat his chronically injured feet with any special care. In fact, when practice began, Bradshaw sat with a handful of trainers, removing most of the protective bandages he had been wearing for the last month.

“It was a lot of pressure on it (the foot) with the tape, the padding and just squeezing on the bone,” he said. “So I took all of it off. It felt perfect.”

Bradshaw then joined his teammates for stretching drills. Later, he caught passes from Eli Manning, and then did individual drills with the offense.

“I think I satisfied him (Coughlin),” Bradshaw said, “and I satisfied myself as well.”

That’s good news for the Giants, who bring a three-game losing streak into MetLife Stadium, along with the NFL’s worst rushing attack. In the four games since Bradshaw went down, the Giants have averaged just 76.5 rushing yards per game, including 29 yards in a Week 11 loss to the Eagles, a performance that Coughlin called “pathetic.”

A healthy Bradshaw instantly revitalizes that unit, replacing Brandon Jacobs’ plodding style with an explosive darting presence. His receiving skills could also hurt a Packer team that let Lions tailback Maurice Morris catch nine passes last week.

And if Bradshaw does play on Sunday, he plans to show off all those skills. He won’t be at half-strength, he says. He’ll be ready to fuel a Giants upset.

“If I am out there, you will see everything,” he said. “I put it all on the field. If I have to break the foot, I will cut it off.”

Giants' Ahmad Bradshaw aims to return against Green Bay Packers

Published: Saturday, December 03, 2011, 4:15 AM
By Jorge Castillo/The Star-Ledger

"You don't get another one of them," Bradshaw's backfield mate and locker room neighbor Brandon Jacobs pointed out.

"I do," Bradshaw countered. "I can get another bone."

A couple weeks ago, Bradshaw said he was aiming to return to the field last Monday night against the Saints. That didn't happen, and once again the running game was unproductive in the team's third consecutive loss.

But it appears as though playing against the Green Bay Packers is more of a certainty, or at least by the NFL's definition of the term "questionable" — 50-50.

For the first time since fracturing his foot against the Miami Dolphins on Oct. 30, Bradshaw practiced Friday and is listed as questionable for tomorrow. He was limited in the practice session, but that may be enough for coach Tom Coughlin, who earlier this week said practicing was a prerequisite for Bradshaw to play against the Packers.

"I think I satisfied him," Bradshaw said, referring to Coughlin, "and I satisfied myself as well."

Earlier in the week Bradshaw said he'd rather not practice in order to avoid any setbacks, but he came out of the practice without any. And at least in his mind he doesn't have to worry about waking up with soreness today; he said he's ready to go at full speed.

"If I'm out there, you're going to see everything," he said. "I put it all on the field."

To no one's surprise, Coughlin is taking a more cautious approach and wasn't as resolute in Bradshaw's status, though he did say he was encouraged by Bradshaw's progress.

"He looked okay," Coughlin said. "He went and worked. He's telling me all the things that I want to hear, but he did okay. He did all right. We'll see how he is in the morning."

After running the ball ineffectively the past two weeks, the Giants could use any semblance of Bradshaw, who still leads the team in rushing (440 yards) and rushing touchdowns (five) despite missing four games due to the foot injury.

The running game reached rock bottom two weeks ago against the Philadelphia Eagles when the Giants accumulated just 29 yards on 17 carries, a 1.7 yards per carry average, and Jacobs was showered with boos from the MetLife Stadium crowd. Last week against the Saints, the numbers — 22 carries for 73 yards — were mediocre, if not unacceptable, by most standards, but nevertheless progress for a team desperate for any degree of balance on offense.

Still, the running game wasn't exactly torching defenses with Bradshaw in the backfield and some of the rushing attack's shortcomings remain in large part due to the offensive line's struggles. But the team hasn't eclipsed the 100-yard mark since rushing for 111 yards against the New England Patriots in Week 9, and Bradshaw could infuse some life into the offense for a game that likely will have plenty of points on the board.

"You have to be perfect," offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride said of playing against the undefeated Packers. "Not perfect, but you have to play as close to your best as you can to have a chance. It's obvious that they're very good and undefeated defending champs. They're a terrific team. To have a chance, you have to be at your best."

And as the record during his absence — one win against three losses — indicates, the Giants are at their best with Bradshaw in the backfield.

per Patricia Traina, NYG beat writer:

Both Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs are expected to practice tomorrow.

Bradshaw will play and play well. This is their season for the Giants now
:goodposting: From Coughlin PresserQ: Did Brandon Jacobs or Ahmad Bradshaw practice?A: They didn’t. They didn’t work. Tomorrow is their scheduled day to work. Both of them.http://corner.bigblueinteractive.com/index.php?mode=2&thread=424367-----------------------------------------------------------------------Bradshaw should get most of the carries, especially if Jacobs' hammy is still tender. Because Jacob's acceleration is slow enough when healthy, the Giants can't afford tackles for loss this game.

1:49 p.m. UPDATE There I go talking out of turn again. Boley, Bradshaw and Jacobs are all listed as probable after working in a limited capacity today.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin was expecting Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs back to practice today. He was correct.

Coughlin was hopeful Michael Boley would be back as well. His wishes were realized.

All three players are practicing today as the team gets in its final full workout before Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. Don't be surprised if all three are designated as questionable on the official injury report.

Elsewhere, safety Kenny Phillips (knee) continues to run on the side. He believed he had a shot to play as of Thursday but it would seem he's more likely to sit out.

Wide receiver Mario Manningham (knee) continues to practice and should be able to play. Same with defensive end Dave Tollefson (knee).Defensive end Osi Umenyiora (knee/ankle) is still out of action and not expected to play. Same with center David Baas (head/neck), who wasn't on the practice field at all.

Linebackers Mark Herzlich (ankle) and Spencer Paysinger (hamstring) remain out.
