Ahmad Brooks (1 Viewer)

I'm not very impressed. Other than running one sub-4.7/40, I'd say Brooks dookied down his leg. When Brooks had to be shown how to run the cones, I think his work ethic was revealed.

31 TEAMS ATTEND BROOKS WORKOUT

A league source has given us the lowdown on the Pro Day workout of former Virginia linebacker Ahmad Brooks. Per the source, every team was represented at the session, with the sole exception of the Chicago Bears.

But despite the presence of 31 teams, only one head coach attended -- Mike Nolan of the 49ers. G.M. Randy Mueller was present on behalf of the Miami Dolphins, which is one of the teams presumed to be most interested in Brooks.

Brooks weighed in at 260 pounds, a number that many scouts considered to be ideal for him. But to get down to 260, Brooks gave up some strength. As a result, he managed only 19 reps in the 225-pound bench press exercise.

In the 40-yard dash, Brooks posted times of 4.68 and 4.72 seconds.

In the three-cone drill and the short shuttle, Brooks' form was regarded as poor. Despite a supposed ten weeks of training for the workout, we're told that he had to be shown how to run the run the three-cone test.

All things considered, the thinking is that Brooks helped himself in advance of the upcoming Supplemental Draft, and there's a belief that someone will select him in round two. Indeed, we continue to hear glowing accounts from scouts and other league insiders regarding Brooks' performance in 2004 with the Cavs.

Still, there are rumors swirling that his former coaching staff at Virginia hasn't gone out of its way to pimp him at the next level. In this regard, the fact that Brooks was kicked off of the Virginia team by coach Al Groh likely speaks volumes; absent a strong pitch from Groh or his staff, turd-averse teams are likely to pass.

But all it takes is one team to pull the trigger. And in the chess match that is the Supplemental Draft all it takes are two teams with an interest in the player to get him taken a round or two earlier than he'd be selected if lumped in with the full draft pool.

NFL | Brooks holds workout for NFL scouts

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Virginia LB Ahmad Brooks worked out for all but one NFL team today (the Minnesota Vikings did not show). Brooks measured at 6-3, 260 pounds after dropping 32 pounds in 10 weeks. Mike Nolan from the San Francisco 49ers was the only head coach there. He passed five drug tests in the last 10 weeks. He ran three times, timed at 4.68, 4.75 and 4.74 in the 40, with 10-yard splits of 1.53, 1.58 and 1.58 and 20-yard splits of 2.73, 2.75 and 2.75. His arm span measured 33½ inches and his hands measured 9½. He had a 32-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot-8 long jump, a 4.43 short shuttle, an 11.84 long shuttle, a 7.43 three-cone drill and 19 benches. Brandt says the conditions at the workout were just average. He will continue to work out under Chip Smith in Atlanta.

Obviously he still has a shot at an NFL career ahead of him, but as an Virginia fan, he's nothing short of unrealized potential.

I will laugh, if the Bengals decide to draft him with his character issues. They might need another OLB for their 34.

So which team wasn't there ... the Vikings or the Bears?

FWIW, from what I've heard out of Santa Clara, the Niners are willing to give a 2nd up for him. Also, Nolan put out the obligatory "smoke" quotes to the beat writer yesterday about their interest "cooling" in him. :D

I think it was the Pats. I could be wrong.
Per KFFL...Patriots | Team does not attend Brooks’ workout

Thu, 22 Jun 2006 22:35:00 -0700

Albert Breer, of the MetroWest Daily News, reports the New England Patriots did not attend the workout of Virginia LB Ahmad Brooks Thursday, June 22. According to agent Greg Williams, approximately 40 officials representing 22 teams attended Brooks' Pro Day on the Charlottesville, Va., campus. Earlier reports said 31 teams attended the workout.

-- Ahmad Brooks' Pro Day --

Fri Jun 23, 2006 --from FFMastermind.com

The Daily Progress reports Virginia ILB Ahmad Brooks worked out for 22 NFL teams Thursday. Brooks ran the 40 with posted times of 4.68 and 4.72 seconds. Brooks weighed in at 260 pounds, far less than the weight that he played at last year in six appearances for the Cavaliers. The Sacramento Bee adds 49ers HC Mike Nolan and personnel director Scot McCloughan attended Brooks' Pro Day. Temperatures reached 100 degrees in Charlottesville, Va. Brooks' 40-times as being between 4.53 seconds and 4.7 seconds in the 40-yard sprint, according to Chip Smith, who has been training the linebacker at Atlanta-based Competitive Edge Sports. Brooks also lifted 225 pounds 19 times, a disappointment, Smith said, considering he had 24 repetitions last week in Atlanta. Brooks put up a broad jump of 9 feet, 8 inches, and registered 32 inches on the vertical jump according to Metro Daily West News. Brooks actually reached 40 inches on his first vertical, but that jump was disqualified. Most significantly, Brooks weighed in at 260 pounds and passed a physical exam. Once considered one of the top linebackers in the country entering his junior season, Brooks missed most of the 2005 season with an array of medical issues, including a knee that had to be surgically repaired. He also fell out of favor with Virginia HC Al Groh, who kicked Brooks off the team earlier this year for violating team rules. When he arrived at Smith's outfit two and a half months ago, he weighed nearly 290 pounds. The Bears, Vikings and Patriots are reportedly among the teams that did not send a representative to Brooks' workout.

:fishing: ...in college

This isn't news to anyone now. The guy obvioulsy has off-the-field issues which is why he is where he is now.

Some new news: apparantly the Dolphins seem MOST interested in him.

from ESPN
not fishing at all. All that I've heard were "character issues", which could've meant a variety of things (including the failing of multiple drug tests). And of course it's from college, since he hasn't played at a higher level yet.

Sorry I just thought that was old news.I read a whole article in ESPN Mag and yeah, he's had a host of problems including drugs, and gaining about 80 lbs.

Anyway just the way you said it made it seem as if he just failed drug tests in his recent workouts/physicals.
