I know there has been some thoughts posted regarding Brooks but I wanted to revisit the topic with its own thread.

With the signing of Brooks - they are saying perhaps backup MLB but if Thurman comes back and keeps his nose clean he will be the MLB. If they go to a 3-4 next year - does Brooks stay as an ILB or does he slid to a OLB and if he is a OLB of course his value will drop unless he is an every down backer. This is also assuming he keeps his nose clean and out of trouble. So what is the projected value of Brooks by position in a dynasty situation? I don't think this really belongs in AC, if so I'm sorry but it really is more about Cincy and are they setting themselves up to go to a 3-4 defense in the future and if they don't - why draft Brooks?

I am interested in Ahmad Brooks as well (I grabbed him via our leagues supplemental draft with a 2007 sixth round pick). Right now, I am trying to figure out if he should take Marviel Underwood's development roster spot. I noticed your avatar and was wondering if you have any insight on Marviel?

As for Brooks, I did notice something about David Pollack. It appears that his hamstring problem seems to be fairly severe. It has been described anywhere from day-to-day to three weeks. At the very least, Pollack’s appearance in next Sunday night’s preseason opener against Washington at Paul Brown Stadium looks to be in jeopardy. Unfortunatly I don't have any insights Marviel Underwood. Haven't heard much about him other than what I've read here.

You're in the right place.You draft Brooks because he's a player. While you can't discount the fact that the Bengals knew Thurman was to be suspended, you also can't discount the fact that the Bengals (read: Marvin Lewis) love big, quick backers with a balanced skill set. They apparently loved what they saw in workouts and have no trouble drafting troublemakers. They probably had a reasonable idea that nobody was going to use a first day pick on a supplemental player. I think they saw a talented guy who projected very highly, believe their third rounder to be a late one in all likelihood and rolled the dice.I think Brooks' future slot depends on two things -- how well Pollack does outside and what the long term plan for Brian Simmons may be. Brooks probably fits best at ILB, particularly in a 3-4, where his speed and size can allow him to take on blockers and play sideline-to-sideline. Bengals insiders and Gil Brandt both felt that Brooks could have the ability to rush the passer from an OLB spot and become an all-around 3-4 OLB prospect. If Pollack struggles or Simmons is still around, Brooks will probably be more likely to play outside.
