Ahmad Carroll Arrested. (1 Viewer)

I understand the need to pile on and make fun of people blessed making tons of money and squandering those opps by being arrested for drugs and guns. 1st of all it is legal to have a gun in this country...it didn't say he held up a convenience store, it didn't say he marched into a bank and opened fire, it didn't say he threatened people with the gun. Have some perspective here. I could pull the racist card out at this point but I'll refrain from it.

And as far as drugs go...what drugs? If its pot I really don't give a spit, if he had a kilo of cocaine...well now we have something to talk about here.

People hate him because he was a 1st round bust but we all have made mistakes in our lives, try not to be the tool that runs and laughs in the face of those we are simply jealous of.

Unless your a Packer fan...then you hate the guy because he was a POS his entire time in Green Bay and wasted his opportunity with the Pack. Obviously, he continues to do so in Jacksonville. The day he was cut by Ted Thompson all Packer fans said "good riddance". We've seen nothing since that day to make us feel differently. You can polish a turd all you want but you still have a turd. Carroll is a turd...polish him up all you want.

It was MDMA (ecstasy), which is a felony, and he had no license for his concealed weapon.(gun)

Hmmmm, and I opened this thread thinking he was arrested for stealing millions of dollars from the Packers.

Getting arrested with a concealed weapon is one thing.

Getting arrested with drugs is another thing.

Getting arrested with both is very, very bad.

He's done. Big time.

You know how many millions of people in this country have done ecstasy? Seriously. I'm really not trying to defend him but its a minor felony IMO...again he isnt Scarface or anything.

No, refraining would have been not mentioning it at all. What you did is plop that turd on the table but then fail to have the guts to own it.

 Okay, well everything you stated are all things one could do to get in some serious trouble. He was in possession of a gun that he didnt have a permit for and had ecstacy. Put the two together and it's even worse. People do make mistakes...most people dont make the kind of mistakes that can put them behind bars for a couple of years. Im sure there are people who are jealous. Im sure the majority of posters who will mock him arent jealous but are merely do so because he squandered and opportunity that a very few minority gets. He showed it on the field and now he's showing it off the field. Players in the NFL should appreciate the opportunity that many of them are blessed with but it seems as there are many professional athletes that dont and it's insulting to the fans who would love to trade spots with them.

Can't believe he wasn't flagged for charged with interference with a police officer. I did notice he was caught holding again.
 I almost became immune to his penalties while in Green Bay. I just assumed everytime a QB dropped back that a yellow flag would follow a couple of seconds later.

Mr Godell has made it VERY CLEAR about the way the business of the NFL will be run from here forward.HE doesn't care how many people in this country own guns or have tried X....

HE DOES care that the NFL players under his watch are out @3AM...with a concealed, unlicensed weapon...with illegal drugs in their possession

He will come down hard and heavy, and in time I expect the hammer to fall even harder as these dummies continue to do what they want...

...he WILL make the pain of continuing this kind of behavior very painful---which is a good thing

I mean, are you Ahmad Carroll's lawyer? :o First off MoP, you have to realize something -- we are a nation of laws. We are supposed to follow these laws, whether you like them or not.

Third, you could "pull the racist card out at this point..."? Ohh please... Were you or I there? No. For all we know, he was arrested by all-black officers. Who really knows? Why do people almost immediately jump to the conclusion that it was racially motivated, simply because he was black? Ridiculous...

Fourth, as far as the drugs are concerned. Quit trying to justify it. You're right that it wasn't a kilo of cocaine or anything of the sort. But again, going back to my first point -- we are a nation of laws. You carry illegal drugs, the key word being ILLEGAL, then you must face the consequences. And believe me, I'm politically one who thinks the entire "War on Drugs" is a complete waste of time, and they should be made legal and taxed heavily (and this coming from someone who has never done an illegal drug in his life)! If we feel that certain types or certain amounts of drugs shouldn't be illegal (like pot, for example), then we need to change the laws! If it's illegal, it's illegal! End of story...

Finally, we all have made mistakes. Some, like Carroll, have made much bigger ones than others. It IS easy for those of us in the cheap seats to take shots at targets like this. That, I will agree with. I hope he gets some help before he completely squanders his life, or worse, ends up dead...

Batman Carroll faces drugs, weapons charges

AJC Staff

Published on: 05/06/07

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Ahmad Carroll, who played at Douglass High and Arkansas, was arrested in Atlanta early Saturday on gun and drugs charges. Carroll, 23, was releaased on bond after a morning court appearance.

At about 2:45 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a call of a disturbance involving a weapon at Beautiful Restaurant on Cascade Road in southwest Atlanta. Carroll, who was said to be involved in the disturbance, was questioned by officers and admitted that he had a weapon, Atlanta police Officer James Polite said. The NFL cornerback consented to a search of his person and his vehicle, Polite said.

Carroll was arrested on suspicion of possessing of a firearm in the commission of a crime; carrying a concealed weapon without a permit; carrying a pistol without a license; and possession of 11 pink tablets that police believe to be Ecstasy pills, Polite said. Carroll was taken to Fulton County jail.

-- Andy Miller

----------------------------

A call to a fight with a weapon started this. So something was said or done that let others know that he had the gun. 11 tabs is a lot. More than just personal use, but maybe just for him and/or his friends...don't know if he was charged with simple possession or with possession w/ intent to distribute. Not gonna speculate on anything , but I will say that these charges are serious as a heart attack. Not too many good decisions made by Mr Carroll...

The print edition of the Times-Union says that the Jaguars are releasing Ahmad Carroll soon. I guess because it was a late story last night, I can't find the story online, so no link.

According to the print story-

Police were called to a disturabance at Beautiful Restaurant in SW Atlanta.

Carroll agreed to a search and police found a 9mm tucked in his waistband and ecstasy on him.

Gun + Drugs in the same location/person= 5yrs Minimum Mandatory Sentence by the Feds if convicted. So much for a minor felony.

Having a gun is one thing, and having a party drug is another, but when you combine the two, it's taken very seriously in court regardless of anyones stance of drugs and guns on this forum.

I have a big problem with him carrying an unlicensed gun, and it appears he probably fired it at some point during a dispute as well.

I could care less about the MDMA. Alcohol and tobacco are significantly more dangerous drugs. That's a medical fact.

Saying that, this guy is a complete moron. If you have a regular job, let alone are a pro athlete, why wouldn't you get a license for your gun? And it appears he fired the weapon at some point, which almost certainly endangered others. To top it off, he did all of this while carrying an illegal substance, lol.

People like him shouldn't be allowed to own a gun. He is clearly crazy and irresponsible. It really pisses me off because he probably won't be punished to the full extent that a non famous person would be. It's not fair.

How many people comit murder in this country? I'm not saying it's okay, but I guess because people do it, it must be, right?People defending drug use/possession? Unbelievable.

FIRST - Minor Felony is one of those Oxymorons. There is not such thing as a minor felony, as FELONY describes the MAJOR crimes.SECOND - ELEVEN PILLS!!!!!! That my friend, is NOT Minor. If he had 2 - he might have been OK, but 11 will put him in the major quantity bucket and will propbably get him an intent to distribute added on as well.

I think intent starts at 20 pills, but I ain't no lawyer (nor someone who's had the pleasure of being arrested for drug possession). I hear what Ministry of Pain is saying, and I encourage everyone piling on him to just take a sec to really internalize his point. All he was saying was that people who are _acting gleeful_ about this arrest may have some soul-searching to do about their motives.

You don't have to forgive Carroll's [alleged] behavior. You definitely don't have to defend it. But you don't have to gloat about it, either. If you want to, hey, that's your thing, but all MoP said was there might be ulterior motives there. That's not the same thing as starting an Ahmad Carroll + Ecstacy + Guns fan club.

I have no problem owning it DW...he's a black ma, young, had drugs in his possession that tons of middle calss white kids and earl 20s folks do every weekend at all the dance clubs from Miami to New York to Los Angeles and every place in between. Oh and he ahd a gun...he must be guilty. He must be a bad guy, he must be a total loser(that could be true)...my point is we are awful quick to go to judgement on a black man with a gun and some recreational drugs. This isn't like when Sammie Smith, Nate Newton, or Mercury Morris all got busted for drugs. Woody harrelson has been busted for pot so many times its not funny but people still like him as an actor...is it because he is in Hollywood and not sports? Or is it OK for him because he is white. Robert Downey Jr is probably a better example.

DW, I'm not trying to get into a flame war with you, honestly just asking questions so lets keep it above the belt, cool?

Some nights I like to go grab a donut and coffee around 1-2AM, especially when I am putting threads and articles for other sites together...and I see the nightclubs and bars emptying out and people getting into their cars and driving off. Mostly white people here in Santa Monica...all these people should be pulled over and given a breathalizer test...most would fail, go to jail, I imagine they could but hundreds of people every night if they wanted to...so why don't they? Its against the law big time and they can kill someone for driving drunk. But most of these people are white, live in an affluent community, and the police turn a blind eye to it I feel. Why? maybe it isn't racisim, but a lot of judgemental people on this board have driven ho,e drunk either form a party or bar probably in the last 12 months...some in the last couple weeks for sure. But when someone gets a DUI, it has become so common that its not a big deal. This guy had a gun and a few recreational pills and we are ready to nail him to the cross...where is the perspective here?

And the lawyer joke was funny...I laughed out loud for real.

Yeah cause you see all those ravers waiving guns running out of the clubs at 6 in the morning...we got to put a stop to that.I always thought the police liked the after hours clubs cause these people would be doing the drugs at home or on the streets if they weren't in the clubs...makes the cops life easier.

Both Woody Harrelson and Downey Jr. are good at what they do, so it isn't a really valid comparison.

Gotta be schtick coming from an intelligent person like you. Do you watch TV? "Do you suffer from breathing, sleeping, not sleeping, having to wake up in the morning, do you suffer from loneliness, depression, diarhea, heart palpatations, low sex drive, high sex drive, are you suffering because you are attracted to the same sex, are you a male, a female, not sure which, do you suiffer from anxiety, loss of will to pay your bills...dude the list is endless and their is a bright pastel pill for each of them. Please don't make this about the drugs. They are manufactured, marketed, and sold with so much gusto now, how can people actually think that druge are really illegal? Because your dumb enough(not you) to buy in to what this government feeds you?WAKE UP!

You know how many millions of people in this country have done ecstasy? Seriously. I'm really not trying to defend him but its a minor felony IMO...again he isnt Scarface or anything.
He had a baker's 10 pack, please. I've seen people eat 10 of those in one night. I don't think I am going to elaborate but believe me I have seen bags with a ton of those inside them...11 is not distribution. Maybe if he had like 500 on him.

I mean, are you Ahmad Carroll's lawyer? :P First off MoP, you have to realize something -- we are a nation of laws. We are supposed to follow these laws, whether you like them or not.

Second, it IS legal to have a gun in this country. I'm a huge advocate of the 2nd amendment, and I don't even own a gun! HOWEVER, it even said in the article that he was carrying a concealed weapon..... WITHOUT A LICENSE! That, sir, is against the law...

Third, you could "pull the racist card out at this point..."? Ohh please... :wall: Were you or I there?

Some nights I like to go grab a donut and coffee around 1-2AM, especially when I am putting threads and articles for other sites together...and Is ee the nightclubs and bars emptying out and people getting into their cars and driving off.

:lmao: you can say this about any club/bar in America.
That's the point really. It's against the law and yet nothing is done about it...why? Where are all the people that are piling on Carroll in here...where are they at 1-2 in the morning? Sleeping I'm sure but maybe they should get a rally going and bring down the late night bar/club scene...but that generates money which in some form or fashion trickles its way into their pockets so that law that is broke...that's OK in their book. Pickign and choosing which laws are OK idoes not make one a better person.

I have no problem owning it DW...he's a black ma, young, had drugs in his possession that tons of middle calss white kids and earl 20s folks do every weekend at all the dance clubs from Miami to New York to Los Angeles and every place in between. Oh and he ahd a gun...he must be guilty.
He is guilty, carrying a concealed weapon without a license is a crime.
Both Woody Harrelson and Downey Jr. are good at what they do, so it isn't a really valid comparison.
So if it was Randy Moss you wouldn't say a thing? Moss is good at what he is paid to do...best stats thru the 1st 6-7 seasons ever...I am betting he would have a lot of hateful posts though...wonder why that is.

Because he is an ### with no heart. There are many reasons not to like someone that are unrelated to race. Mark McGwire was a hero of mine, now I can't stand him. I never liked Romanowski. You claimed to not want to drop the "race card" but that seems to be all you want to talk about it.

:whoosh: Wow. Few things to consider here. 10 pills is NOT common, in fact, it pushes the envelope to the point where the user should really give themselves a hard look and figure out if rehab is right for themselves. A normal pill is about 25 mg, and the plateau of euphoria for the average user is right around 250 mg. So Carroll knows what he's doing in that sense but consider this; what he has done is taking a drug to the point where it no longer affects the body. This is akin to having boozed to the point where the body no longer is affected by alcohol- akin to the body shutting down (fainting) and rejecting the alcohol (throwing up). Usually, such cases are met with immediate medical attention and sometimes death. While the lethal dose of MDMA is very high, one must consider that if he had 11 pills on him at 3am, God only knows how much he had taken and how much he was planning to take. Had he considered taking up to 20 pills, serious bodily harm could have resulted.

Carroll's actions were unacceptable. I dont care that he took illegal substances into his body, but there exists a difference between use of a substance and abuse of a substance. The extent to which he ingested indicates he abused the substance and needs guidance as to what is acceptable and what is not. I think his release is the best thing for him at this point, as he needs to step back and realize what this has done to his life and career and to evaluate his future options from this point onwards.

When someons drops in the neighborhood of 150-400 dollars for illegal substances it is an issue to be sure. If it is for one night, however, it is a major problem.

It was MDMA (ecstasy), which is a felony, and he had no license for his concealed weapon.(gun)

Lol how are you defending a guy who by your own admission is threating people with guns? And regardless of your opinion possession of ecstasy is not a minor felony, its a first degree. And if you're eating ten pills in a night, you need some help cause you are officially an E-tard

Is that Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton? Puleeeez.

For Goodness sakes that was the weakest thing you could do was break out "The Race Card". You should have refrained.I live in a place where whites are the majority arrested. They are pulled over and if the probable cause is there, they are searched.

It is people that continually pull out the race card that keep racism going. Relax, those days will fade if we let it.

The Guy Had Illegal Drugs W/ a concealed weapon and no permit. These are the exact people that Goodell is sending a message to. When Pacman and Henry were handed down stiff suspensions for being punk thugs, he was sending a message to the rest, It Will NOT be tolerated anymore.

If you want to play in the NFL, behave.

If you want to carry around unregistered guns and do X, it's your choice, but not in the NFL.

1) Generally speaking most would agree that its stupid to be carrying around an amount of illegal narcotics that will land you in Fulton County Detention w/ felony charges if you're caught.

2) Generally, most would agree that it is stupid to be carrying a concealed weapon if you do not have a permit to do so.

3) Generally, most would agree that its REALLY stupid to do both.

4) Most would agree that its incredibly stupid to start a fight or fail to walk away from a fight that is likely to attract police when commiting the above offenses.

5) What seems to be blindingly stupid is to know that two players have JUST had their careers shut down for an extended time for doing some knuckle-head stuff. Your boss has just told every employee that being a dumb-### will not be tolerated...and you go and do what???

Now, to the difference between the examples of the actors - the actors in question have gotten what message from others in their field breaking the law? Go to rehab and be good and you'll get another chance... Carroll has recently gotten what message in regard to breaking the law? I think there is a difference and the proximiity of Carroll's message is what makes this truly extraordinary to me.

Perhaps MoP is right and some have racist tendancies but until there is some evidence of that I personally prefer that card to remain covered.

I also think that the involvement of a football player is going to bring a stronger reaction given this particular audience. We are all more than football fans. We know what these man are capable of. Look at some of the break-down of players abilities here. We all know what a gift it is to be capable of playing pro ball and also to be given the opportunity to do that job. When someone risks that under any circumstances causes us to sit back and scratch our heads - but when its done in extraordinary fashion and with the recent warnings from the new commish, well I was left speechless...
