Ahman Green: Kubiak knew Friday he would not play (1 Viewer)

Fair & Balanced
Knowing the NFL caters to gamblers I am suprised that Green was not declared out Friday or Sat.

Texans RB Ahman Green was inactive for the third time in five weeks with the same bruise on his knee that has plagued him since the start of the season. Green was limited in practice all week. "He took a few reps Friday, and he told me after practice Friday that he could not play," coach Gary Kubiak said in the Houston Chronicle. "So that is where we are." His status for Week 9 at Oakland is unknown.

I'm not sure what you're making out of this is what you should be getting out of it. Do coaches listen to their players? Are they entitled to not listen to a player who declares he is in or out of the game? I think they are. Just because Green came to the conclusion he wouldn't be able to play does not mean Kubiak came to that conclusion at the same time. I think it often happens that the player's opinion of his own capability and the coach's estimate of the chance of him playing differs.

So there's cheating and abuse of the injury reporting system, which leads us back to the . . . .

PATRIOTS!!!!!11 :X

Thanks dg.Do you have a link for that?

You're right, there will likely be a fine for this.

The quote is slightly different on houstontexans.com

He took a couple of reps Friday and basically told me, ‘Coach, I can’t go. My knee is bothering me, it’s hurting me. I need this week.’ That’s where we’re at right now and we’ll see.”
I don't know enough about the rules to know if it would be against the rules in that context.

It is from CBS Sportsline. My feeling is the NFL should cater to FF players just as much. There were many teams that started Green because of bye week blues (me included) that were not real happy.

Can`t play and can`t go is basically the same.

Maybe the NFL can send out email alerts whenever a player is announced out?

There is a difference to me when a player is asking to be taken out. For what little we know about the situation, Kubiak could have just as easily said "suck it up and play" as opposed to "okay, you can sit out."Edit to say there's "a difference to me". Maybe the NFL doesn't see it that way.

I agree, but Kubiak said that Green told him "I can`t go" yet he was still listed as probable. I have yet to see a probable player be deactivated on Sunday. At the very least Green should have been downgraded to doubtful.
