THE NEWS

A.J. Hawk's status for Monday's game against Minnesota remains unknown, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. The Packers' medical staff hasn't made a decision on Hawk, who completed practice for the third consecutive day. Asked whether he expects Hawk to be cleared for the game, coach Mike McCarthy said, "Hope so. Just taking all the information, and we'll make a decision. Nothing's changed as far as our plan for A.J. Giving him the opportunity to come back. Just didn't want to do too much too fast, but he feels great. We'll see how he feels in the morning."

Our View

Hawk feels 100 percent and has no pain or discomfort from the chest injury, but it is a matter as to whether the team feels he had enough time to heal properly and not be in jeopardy of being re-injured. We will keep you posted on his status.

Last one I saw:

(KFFL) Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports Green Bay Packers LB A.J. Hawk (chest) went through a full practice Saturday, Sept. 6. He hopes to play during Week 1, but he has not been cleared for the game by the team's medical staff. If he does play, Hawk would wear a harness to protect him from suffering further injury to his chest.

Hawk Will Start Tonight

A.J. Hawk got his wish.

The Packers' starting weak-side linebacker is active and will start tonight's regular-season opener against Minnesota.

Hawk, who never has missed a game in college or the NFL, returned to practice on Thursday after missing 3 1/2 weeks with a strained muscle in his chest. He was fitted for a harness and presumably will wear it tonight.

Center Scott Wells (lower back) is the most notable name on the Packers' inactive list. There was a chance he would be activated as a backup in spite of missing the entire week of practice, but rookie tackle Breno Giacomini will dress instead.

The others are as I guessed earlier: CB Pat Lee, S Charlie Peprah, G Josh Sitton, TE Jermichael Finley, WR James Jones and DE Jeremy Thompson. Rookie Brian Brohm is the No. 3 quarterback.

Inactive for the Vikings are: S Madieu Williams, CB Marcus McCauley, RB Maurice Hicks, LB Erin Henderson, T Drew Radovich, FB Jeff Dugan and DT Letroy Guion. Rookie John David Booty is the No. 3 quarterback. Only Williams is a starter, though Hicks probably would return kickoffs if healthy.
