SKIP TO THE BOTTOM OF PAGE 4 FOR THE 2004 SEASON WEEK 12 SMACK.

That's right, 2-0 after smacking the defending Super champs on their home field. Where all the folks around here that were predicting 1 win? Probably lining up for the bandwagon.

The scary part is that the defense and offense haven't even played up to their potential yet. Special teams has been the key. 5 blocked kicks, He Hate Me covering every punt like a blanket, and Steve Smith striking fear into the opposition as the best punt returner in the game (OK, maybe second behind Dante).

Better hope aboard before it's too late!

Who's next???

P.S. A special thank you goes out to Spurrier for Stephan Davis.

im officially on it but i had them as my sleeper pick this year..their defense is good and i liked them picking up davis and delhomme. i thought delhomme would play well for them because their WR's were already pretty decent. Still Falcons all the way for me though.

Stephen Davis runs for 120 against the Bucs defense and he's not living up to his potential? I don't know what you're hoping for but that's about as good as it gets.

I think the Saints were 2-0 and had beaten the Bucs at this point last year. They did not make the playoffs. It is a long season. I think this team barely beat the Jaguars. When they start to win games beyond last second heriocs then I'll join the bandwagon. Untill then I think this is an example of the best division in football beating each other up.

Forget 120 yards - try 142 by Stephen Davis against the Bucs relentless defense, in Tampa no less! Way to go Carolina!! :boxing:

Davis was a great addition to this team. The defense is as good as ever and now they have a headliner RB. Delhome played well too. Go Panthers... From a Carolina homer ;) TB may have over looked them after beating Philly in Philly. They realize now they aren't unbeatable. They also realize now that perhaps Philly isn't as good as advertised, after the Pats destroyed them today. Carolina comes to play every week.

I am on the bandwagon!Just finished watching the game. Had to work but made it home without hearing anything. Very nice win.

The Panthers read my post on how to beat the Bucs cover D.

I have Davis on my squad, so make room for me on the buckboard.Impressive, hard-fought victory for the Panthers. They played solid, and Davis looks primed for a fantastic year.

A well deserved bump for the upset of the week and thumping the world champs on their home turf.
I'm no TB fan, but I wouldn't call that a thumping. TB marched down the field in less than two minutes at the end of the game and scored a TD. Pretty lucky to block the extra point. You need luck to win a championship (see Ohio State last year), but to call this a thumping, you are crazy. Unless you will allow me to call the Rams victory over the Niners a thumping. :D :D I think the wagon is derailed by Week 8. Wish I had Stephen Davis on my team though.

They remind me of the Bears of two years ago. They could be 0-2 just as easy. Winning on a 4rth and long play on the last play of the game and blocking an extra point arent exactly what i would call convincing wins.

Congrats on a well-played, hard-fought, well deserved victory, in overtime, on the road, against the Champs. :banned: Here's to 2-0

Anytime you beat the consensus pick to win the Super Bowl and the world champs on their home field, it's a thumping. I thought it would be a close game, but figured Tampa would win. Poo-poo the victory all you want, but special teams is 1/3 of the game. Tampa has a better D and better offense, but the Panthers have the best special teams squad in the league.Tampa has a dominating team. I predicted a wild card berth for the Panthers and a division title for the Bucs. I still expect that to happen. The key to the NFL getting by the Bucs is someone knocking Brad Johnson out of the game. Unlike the past Super Bowl champs, Tampa will not be an easy out.

I was about to get on this train, but noticed that Jake De La Homie was driving. I'll wait for the next engine coming down the line.

Who cares if if took a 4th down touchdown over the Jags and a blocked extra point to beat the Bucs? In the NFL, winning is what counts. If you want style points, watch the highlights on ESPN. The Panthers are 2-0 and just beat the defending champs on their home field, so I think that makes them damn good at this point.

I'm on. I went to the season opener, watched the first of two great last minute wins, and enjoyed it to no end. They're going to be a fun football team this year if Delhomme can continue to be a solid starter.

Well, football is a game on inches, and the difference right now between the Panthers being "damn good" and damn bad is a total of 6 inches. 3 for a Proehl catch and 3 for a blocked extra point, both on th last play of the game. The Panthers wont make the playoffs this year.

This just in - The Panthers are a good team!

Panthers record in the last 11 games: 10-1 :boxing:

Won 4 of the last 5 regular season games last year

Won 4 preseason games this year

Won 2 games so far this season

Giddy'up Panther fans!!

You will get nowhere in the end with that team in its current configuration. Just ask Tony Dungy how far he got with the Bucs a few years ago. It's great to have a winning record and a chance in the playoffs but tough D with very little offense just won't cut it. Hopefully your ownership will realize that faster than ours did and get you some weapons to help what might be a strong defense if your LB's can ever stay healthy. Jenkins and his linemen buddies don't cover downfield too do they?CP/AT YDS TD INT M. Brunell 23/27 272 2 0 B. Johnson 34/61 339 1 1 Blocked kicks and last minute TD's aren't the kind of thing to be hanging your hat on in this league. Enjoy while you can...

Yeah, having great special teams and playing well in the last minute of the game will never get you anywhere. Just ask the 01 Patriots.

Right, I forgot that is how the Pats got to THAT point in THAT game  The Bucs were just like this Panther team just a short while ago but never got over the hump with that style of play. Hopefully they realize that faster than we did. Maybe a winning season and good fan turnout will encourage their ownership to go out and get some offense, otherwise be prepared for the let down...

Tell that to the 2000 Baltimore Ravens!! The Panthers can be a very cabable offense when they need to be, but John Fox will run a conservative offense to kill clock and let the defense win it for them. ...Sounds like a bitter fan. Almost as bitter as the TB Radio announcer that proclaimed a "Bucs Win" when MCCardell caught the tying TD, only to have the extra point blocked (3rd blocked kick of the day). :rotflmao:

As far as the Patriots comparison goes...FACT: The Raiders beat Oakland in round 2 by kicking a last minute field goal(OK, it wasn't a touchdown, but still) and then winning it in overtime with another field goal.FACT: The Patriots beat the Steelers in the AFC title game because of 2 special teams touchdowns, one of which was a BLOCKED FIELD GOAL that they returned for a touchdown.FACT: The Patriots beat the Rams in the Super Bowl by kicking a field goal at the end of the game to win it. Again, it wasn't a touchdown, but it was a last minute heroic and great special teams play.

Sorry, wrong guy. Just trying to help these Panther fans keep their heads on straight, kind of a public service thing I guess. But if you want to act like this was a championship game or something go right ahead. I for one can't wait to see the next game those zebras officate :X

Too bad Carolina is on bye this week. It was really easy to make my QBBC decisions these last two weekends...

As far as the Patriots comparison goes...FACT: ............
FACT: That is not what got them to THOSE points in THOSE games.FACT: Been there, done that watching the Bucs a few years ago.FACT: The Panthers will not be in THOSE situations THOSE games this year.Maybe next year with a year of seasoning for Jake D and a healthy set of WR's and LB's. It's nice to win an ugly game every now and then when you've been down for so long...

ATTENTION ALL NON-BELIEVERS!!!

The Carolina Panthers ARE A VERY GOOD team. Those who are not Carolina homers do not fully understand how good Carolina is.

Even in our 1-15 season, we were constantly in ball games and even led a few going into the fourth quarter. Last year, we led many games late and could have easily been 13-3 (Remember that SSmith fumble that gave TB a win in Charlotte last year Bucs fans). We could not finish in the past. This year we are getting it done.

So to those say "the Panthers are not good, just lucky" I say :P . Panthers were a decent NFL team. So far this year, WE ARE UNDEFEATED -- a claim that cannot be made by 24 other NFL teams including TB AND OAK!! I can assure you, NO ONE is happy to see CAR on their schedule.

Now there is a lot of football to be played, and a lot can happen between now and January. However, dimiss them at your own risk.

CAROLINA PANTHERS SUPER BOWL XXXVIII CHAMPS!!

:boxing: :boxing:

Two things can be gleened from yesterdays CAR/TB game...1. Carolina's D and ST are as good as previously reported. I don't remember when the last time I saw a blocked extra point was. A salty performance indded.2. Tampa's Offense isn't as good as previously reported.Since I picked Atlanta to go to the Super Bowl, I'm kind of in a real pickle..HERD

Yes, I remember that - I was at that game and the crowd went silent when Steve Smith muffed that punt. It was all about Gramatica after that. No TD's were scored in that game either. To say Panthers Super Bowl Champs?! That's a bit far-fetched just yet, but I appreciate the love! As do other Carolina homers.

i put $100 for the Panthers to win the superbowl in vegas last weekI loved the odds 25-1. i'm sure after yesterday those Odss have changed considerably

My FF team is 2-0 and leading my division in points. Thank you Carolina "we like to block kicks" D/st & a big thanks to my 2nd round (15th pick overall) stud S.Davis. They are doing exactly what I thought they would.....so far. Side note. The guy who has Jamal in our leauge will lose his game this week unless Toomer scores a touch & 100 yards.

ummmmmDungy NEVER had the running game that the Panthers have. Also, the Panthers drafted two offensive linemen with thier 1st and 2nd rounders and that line is whats gonna be the game breaker vs the Bucs and teams with good DE's and DT's.Also, they have Foster in there who is good insurance for Davis. And, they need secondary help, and what do you know..... there are a truckload of good CB's next year in FA and the draft. This team is gonna hang around a while because of the likes of Fox and such.

Been saying it for a while, Carolina is going to the SB. No one in the NFC can stop their power running attack because everyone is geared to stop passing games, as evidenced by 140 vs Tampa.

Carolina just barely beat a terrible Jax team. They needed a missed PAT to force overtime against TB.Yes, Car is a pretty good team, but a super bowl team? Cmon . . .

:rotflmao: at everybody saying the Cats are going to the Bowl after TWO games. Probably the same people saying the Aints were headed there last year as well. Sure, they've looked good, but get a grip people. Delhomme WILL NOT be taking any team to the Super Bowl any time soon...this team has no playoff experience and is one-dimensional on offense. They looked good and deserved to win yesterday...but I'll still sit here and say the Bucs are the better team, and if they meet in January, the Panthers won't be the team advancing.

I got them at 30-1 to win the NFC in the off-season.Wonder if I should just sell that betting stub now?

Big hurdle eliminated today. The Falcons have been the Cats nemisis for quite some time. LOL at Reeves throwing in the towel and kicking a FG when down by 20 with 4 minutes and change left. The defense while not dominating, looked good again.WHO'S NEXT??? The Saints and an opportunity to sweep the first run through of the NFC South (the best division in the NFC).Still sticking with my pre-season predictions of a wildcard birth, defeating the Dolphins in the Super Bowl (although KC looks good), and Rod Smart as Super Bowl MVP.Tickets still available for the bandwagon (and the home games too :bag: ), grab 'em before their all gone.

I'm a homer and I love what they're doing but I can't get fully on the bandwagon because I feel that our best QB is still on the bench. Wienke outshined both these guys in training camps, pre-season and I really feel like he gives us a better chance than Jake. We'll see how long 160 yds gets it done I guess.

You may be correct and I was in your camp too, but...Maybe we should give some consideration to the fact that Jake was new and that it was going to take him longer to learn the plays. Maybe the coaches saw enough potential and realized that the learning curve was going to be short. Of course when the plays are hand the ball to Davis right, hand the ball to Davis left, hand the ball to Foster...the learning curve would be short for me too.The schedule doesn't get any easier with Indy, Tenn, TB, Wash, and Phil on the horizon. Even the pre-season gimmes of Houston, Dallas, and Arizona won't be a walk in the park since all are better then advertised.
