Panther Points to Ponder!!

1. Panthers now 9-0 this season when scoring 21 points or more. 12-1 when scoring 21 points or more under Coach John Fox, career.

2. Panthers have scored 37, 29 and 29 points in each of their last 3 games.

3. Panthers have won 5 games in a row averaging 27.0 points and allowing 17.6.

4. Panthers have allowed only 4 TD's on defense in their last 4 games. Two of which were 1 play drives by the Giants deep in Carolina territory after a Carolina turnover.

5. Jake Delhomme - 563 yards passing, 2 TD's, 1 INT, 100.8 QB rating in two winning playoff games so far. Passing yards leads all playoff QB's (granted two he's already played twice)

6. Steve Smith 11 rec, 298 yards, 2 TD - First among all active WR in post season.

7. Muhsin Muhammad 9 rec, 173 yards - 2nd among active WR's in post season.

8. Stephen Davis 32 carries, 190 yards, 5.9 ypc, 1 TD in only 5 quarters of post season play. Leads all RB's.

9. John Kasay 8/10 FG and 4/4 PAT. 28 points leads all scorers in post season. 2nd is Wilkins with 15.

To quote Terry Bradshaw, "I think it's about time other teams start to recognize the Panthers"

First everyone jumps on when they were 8-1, then everyone jumped off after the three game losing streak. Now people are getting ready to jump back on again :P Those Carolina Panthers really just seem to get it. And Delhomme is a huge reason why they are running. That guy makes some clutch throws.

They really do have a bit of 2000 Ravens feel to them.- great defense- workhorse RB- non-descript QB- one bad stretch during the season where they look like a lousy team- nobody takes them seriously as contenders until it's too lateThe main difference is that the Panthers don't have a Ray Lewis-type dominant defensive player, and probably have better talent at WR than the Ravens did. Still, it's starting to feel like deja vu.

I'm glad they keep winning. I would love to see them make it all the way to the title game. Are they winning in spite of him, or because of him? I still perceive them as an underdog each week.I didn't see the game today or last week. Something else to ponder. Even if they win it all, doesn't Jake seem like the sort of player that will always be on a short leash? Will the home town crowd turn on him if they lose a couple in a row? Is he another Trent Dilfer? I just haven't seen enough of him to really judge.
You make some good points Shick! I wish you had seen him play as he seems to be improving. This was his first full season playing so there's hope for continued improvement. The passing numbers against against two good defenses have been impressive. Yet, there's still talk around town that he's the second best QB on the roster.

I got them at 30-1 to win the NFC in the off-season.Wonder if I should just sell that betting stub now?
Note to self: the next time you get a brilliant pre-season hunch on a football wager, don't be a girl and go cheap on the bet.
Been holding mine since the preseason, two more wins and they will have put me through college.

ah heck, why not another bump... Just got back from a 4 day Golf trip, and was able to watch the game last night in a sports bar full of Panther fans. Was a great game, although they tried to give it away there at the end.Go Panthers!

Hard to believe we're going to the big one. Jake has surprised me and continues to mature as a qb. The defense was stifling yesterday and the offense made some plays when they had to.I remember when Mr.Richardson predicted a Super Bowl within 10 years of the founding of the franchise, 9 years later here we are.Go Panthers!

I'm on. I went to the season opener, watched the first of two great last minute wins, and enjoyed it to no end. They're going to be a fun football team this year if Delhomme can continue to be a solid starter.
I'm off as of yesterday at about 7PM, but I've enjoyed watching them this season. Congrats on a great season.

Well, football is a game on inches, and the difference right now between the Panthers being "#### good" and #### bad is a total of 6 inches. 3 for a Proehl catch and 3 for a blocked extra point, both on th last play of the game. The Panthers wont make the playoffs this year.
:o

Carolina just barely beat a terrible Jax team. They needed a missed PAT to force overtime against TB.Yes, Car is a pretty good team, but a super bowl team? Cmon . . .
Where are we going?

:rotflmao: at everybody saying the Cats are going to the Bowl after TWO games. Probably the same people saying the Aints were headed there last year as well. Sure, they've looked good, but get a grip people. Delhomme WILL NOT be taking any team to the Super Bowl any time soon...this team has no playoff experience and is one-dimensional on offense. They looked good and deserved to win yesterday...but I'll still sit here and say the Bucs are the better team, and if they meet in January, the Panthers won't be the team advancing.
:rotflmao:

PLAYOFF BOUND BABY!Yes, you heard it here first months ago.
:confused:this isn't the time to be bragging about it...you guys are limping in, fresh off a losing streak and going down to the wire against the pathetic Cardinals.you guys are making it in due to a few last-second victories, and in spite of your horrendous QB and bad secondary. i hope to GOD the bucs make it in so they can head back up to carolina and end this nonsense once and for all.sadly, they'll probably get squeezed (their fault, of course) but I hope you guys get Dallas so they can beat you again.carolina = chicago of a few years ago, just not as good.
Have another helping of crow.

Is now the time or do I have to wait until my playoff tickets arrive on my doorstep Christmas Eve?By the way, nice showing by your team this weekend.
hey, i'll admit it, panthers are the better team this year. i still don't think you guys are going anywhere in the playoffs, but enjoy it. you guys really aren't that good, but you're better than the bucs this year, if that makes you happy.bucs had an incredible year, with all the injuries and distractions. they'll be back.
Another slice.

Hey, I was wrong about the Cats...never thought they'd get this far.But win the ####ing Super Bowl before running your mouth, because we did last year...if they get blown out, I'll be the one bumping this ####.

Bump all you want. We're going to the Super Bowl. Another victory would just be icing on the cake. Nope, you can't take away the NFC title, the division title, the two wins against the Bucs, or back to back wins against the #1 and #2 seeds on the road in the playoffs. What you guys did last year has no bearing on how successful our season was this year or the fact that we're proud of our team. This team was 1-15 two years ago. As a Bucs fan, you should be able to appreciate this. Has reigning one year as champ turned you into a "Yankees" style fan? If so, you in for a long and misrable future, especially in this league. By the way, you at least have to admit that you were pretty brutal on us this year.

I'm not sure what you want me to say exactly...I gave you credit right here...
hey, i'll admit it, panthers are the better team this year.
I was off on the Panthers this year...I didn't think Delhomme was a Super Bowl QB, and considering he only completed 9 passes yesterday, I'm not sure the Panthers do either. But he got the job done and that's all that counts.I will safely say that I've never been more shocked at any team winning a trip to the Super Bowl...there is no way you can say you thought this was a Super Bowl team when they were struggling to beat the likes of the Lions and the Cardinals, just a month ago.

And I was brutal on you...just like you've been brutal on me. It cuts both ways. And if the Bucs rebound next year, like I think they will, you better ####### believe I'll be brutal again. But props to you for calling a lot of this, and props to the Cats for shocking a lot of people and getting to the dance.

Finally, you should be proud of your team...but you were running smack directly at me...which is why I'll be running it back if you guys get smoked...the Bucs just won a SB last year...until you match that, don't flap off...because I'm still content with where my team stands.

To say Panthers Super Bowl Champs?! That's a bit far-fetched just yet, but I appreciate the love! As do other Carolina homers.
Still far-fetched??Sure its possible (likely ???) we can lose the BIG GAME, but why not think we can/will win? To win, you have to believe you WILL win.

Actually I wasn't real brutal on you and I probably gave the Bucs more credit then they deserved this year as you well know. I didn't realize that bumping someone's own words was running smack. This was never about me .v you or Cats v. Bucs, it was about a team that exceeded most expectations and pointing out that the pieces were there from the start of the season. Hearing you say "if you guys get smoked" indicates that you think we may have some talent. That's a huge compliment coming from a rival. You know, if the Cats lose this game, we will have a lot in common from a historical standpoint. Either way, I look forward to Tampa/Carolina turning into a long term hotly contested rivalry game.

of course you guys have talent...your D-line is outstanding, Smith is a great WR and your RB and O-Line are nice.Delhomme still hasn't impressed me...I've seen him fling too many prayers up there that get answered (Muhammed's catch yesterday, the play at the end of the Bucs game, where he flung it into triple coverage, etc)...but you guys are worthy of going to the Bowl.

And yes, obviously the Bucs have a legacy of losing...but we also have have a legacy of one title. :D

Delhomme still hasn't impressed me...I've seen him fling too many prayers up there that get answered
Just getting back online; gonna jump right in at the end of this train here since I've been aboard all season! :D I like the comparison ESPN showed between Delhomme's #'s and Brady's #'s from the 2001 season playoffs. With the system they're running the two of them fit in real well, and no question--a little luck at the right times helps too! This should be a really awesome game--unless some fluke play early on takes away one team's ability to run a balanced attack it will be close atw. It's party time!! We'll all be either celebratin' or commiseratin' :banned: Any idea of the weather forecast? Good time for a pigpickin'......

Are you really "content" with where the Bucs stand now? A team that failed to make the playoffs the year after their SB win; a team that kicked their 'star' WR off the team when they needed to win; a team that is looking at getting rid of their starting QB for some reason; a team that will find itself in the same division as a healthy Vick and the emerging Panthers next season.

Or do you just plan on falling back on last year's SB title as your #1 comeback? ;)

Capella, you've said something like this about every week in this thread. Hoping that if you bash them constaintly, they will eventually lose, and you will be right? The time to give up while you were ahead was..... Well it seems you were never ahead. :rotflmao: Drugrunner is on the Pat's Bandwagon.

how many times should I say I was wrong about the Cats this year, before it finally gets through to some of you? :confused:B & B has run smack on the Bucs quite a lot this year, whether he admits or not...which is fine, his team is playing great...but the Bucs just won it a year ago, so I still have a little to fall back on.

things could be worse.the bucs get alstott, kelly, and jurevicious back next year, along with any FAs and draft picks, and the young players who got a lot of experience this year...getting kelly back alone is HUGE...and personally, I trust Gruden a LOT to get this turned around (whether or not that trust is warranted is another discussion).BJ won't be gone, but Gannon may be brought in to compete because of BJ's horrible decisions down the stretch this year. He threw 4 picks in the first half of the Falcons game...FOUR!, and poor decisions put the Bucs in a big hole all year (see the first Saints game, where he threw that horrible pass out to the flat, that was returned for a TD)...as for missing the playoffs, they did...but they were right in it every week, the defense just didn't hold the leads at the end of the games...and the Pats missed the playoffs last year, worked out ok for them. :yes:As for the Falcons...hey, that's a tough division, nothing else next year worries me as much as dealing with the Falcons and Cats for the playoffs. That will be tough.

Fair enough. Glad to see that you recognize that the Bucs need to get things turned around. I was just surprised by your "being content with where the Bucs stand" comment.

I understand...to me, that is a team with far more talent, and a better coach, then what 7-9 looks like.Bucs didn't play well for a lot of the season...but there were moments when they looked like their old selves. A few tweaks (better O-line and special teams, less mistakes from the QB, better clock management), could lead them back to a huge season next year. The defense will still largely be in place for another run.

B & B has run smack on the Bucs quite a lot this year, whether he admits or not...
 From my earlier posts..."Anytime you beat the consensus pick to win the Super Bowl and the world champs on their home field, it's a thumping. I thought it would be a close game, but figured Tampa would win. Poo-poo the victory all you want, but special teams is 1/3 of the game. Tampa has a better D and better offense, but the Panthers have the best special teams squad in the league. Tampa has a dominating team. I predicted a wild card berth for the Panthers and a division title for the Bucs. I still expect that to happen. The key to the NFL getting by the Bucs is someone knocking Brad Johnson out of the game. Unlike the past Super Bowl champs, Tampa will not be an easy out.""Just bring it Bucs." replying to Capella saying this wouldn't be out year."You just concentrate on San Fran and those 75 rushing yards they've gotten in the first quarter." replying to Capella saying we're the second best team in the division."Smack the Bucs in the chops and move to 7-2! The magic number is 4 with 7 to play. Probably the best game of the year in terms of excitement. Hopefully this is the last time we have to see the Bucs this year.""Is now the time or do I have to wait until my playoff tickets arrive on my doorstep Christmas Eve? By the way, nice showing by your team this weekend." replying to Capella saying we're limping into the playoffs, our QB and secondary suck, that Dallas would beat us, and comparing us to Chicago. Not much smack directed at the Bucs in my opinion. Regardless, Capella is cool and a stand up guy for coming back to this thread. I look forward to many years of close and important games between the Bucs and the Cats. As a matter of fact, this division will be loaded years with the young talent in Atlanta and NO.

<_< Seems like a fair amount of smack to me...and this wasn't the only thread we've discussed matters.Anyways, Sapp was on PTI today...one of the guys asked what the Bucs thought of the Panthers throughout the season...his response was "we kept wondering when the collapse was coming."So see, I wasn't the only one. Anyhoo, he said the Panthers were going to beat the Patriots, and it "isn't even fair". He said that the Panthers' D-line will push the New England O-line all around the field.Found that to be interesting.

Much like I did, Sapp should have been wondering when the Bucs collapse was coming undone. Granted there were injuries, but the team had to much talent to slip this far and lost too many games it shouldn't have.I hope he's right about the Super Bowl, but I don't put much stock in his opinion. People tend to put too much stock in the strength of their own division. I haven't seen the Panther's front four push anyone around since last season. Morgan always being hurt, Field's illness, and Pepper's lack of steriods may be the reasons.

Time to crank it up again gentlemen. Despite a sizeable chuck of the team being on IR, the QB no one respects and the 5th string RB have gotten the Cats back into playoff contention. Go Pack Go. One game out with a GB win tonite.Be very afraid Eagles fans, we know the route to the Bowl and will enjoy punking your asses in the Linc in January once again. :P

I guess while you were busy kicking our butts, we were running it down your throats to the tune of 112 to 62. I'll take that butt kicking any day of the week. Don't bother whining about your crappy FG kicker, ours isn't any better. Now go run along and start e-baying.

Until that ####er Grammatica missed the last FG, the total yardage was like 400-220. That's an ###-kicking.The defense was done on the last drive. The Bucs had their chances and gave them away and that was it. They even said so afterwards. :shrug:But we can double our bet up on the Panthers making the playoffs, if you're that confident.

Nah...I'd feel bad taking any more $ out of the Florida economy after all the hurricanes. I'll just cash out after one more Atlanta win.

While this year is a longshot, I do like what I'm seeing out of the o-line. They did a very good job v. Tampa who is one of the better defenses in the league. The secondary continues to be a bright spot. They've given up very few passing TDs...both of today's TDs were to Pittman short and up the middle. Gamble and Colbert were excellent picks this year. Peppers seems to have improved. The team should remain intact through the offseason. With Jenkins and Smith back, next year looks very bright.

How 'bout them Bucs :bow:now that gruden decided to employ a kicker and a decent starting QB (only took him 4 games to do that  ), we may be onto something.

The only reason you guys won is because I didn't bet on you this week. I'll remedy that next week. Hopefully the Panthers will reimburse me because I've been on the wrong side of each of their wins.

Hate to burst your bubble Capella, but you best be rooting for us v. the Rams if you want to have a chance at the playoffs.

not looking forward to next weeka) Bucs are absolutely HORRIBLE on the West Coastb) Tight Ends have given them a lot of trouble this year. Antonio Gates, hello.c) Had some problems stopping the run as well. LT2, hello.BUT, they are playing real well, and if they had an actual kicker, they would be looking at 6-6 at least right now. We'll see, but I'll be surprised if they win next week. Hopefully, I'm very wrong, because I think they can run the table if they beat the Bolts.
