Draft update (if anyone is still interested?): 4.1 Joe Horn 4.2 Laverneous Coles 4.3 Steve Smith 4.4 Eric Moulds 4.5 Jeremey Shockey

3.14 Santana Moss: Taking a reciever with one of these picks was a lock. Like I said when I passed on Harrison, I was projecting a top 5 caliber reciever to be available in round 3. This was the guy I wanted. 1100 yards and 10 tds only starting 12 games last year. Yeh. Continuing with the youth theme of the draft, I think this Moss can put up Harrisonesque numbers at a cut price. Speaking of price if he holds out this pick sucks.4:1 Joe Horn: I didnt intend to make this pick. In fact im not sure im thrilled with it. I wanted and needed a 3rd RB. Jones and Duckett got away from me. I thought hard about Hearst, but couldnt pull the trigger on a Denver team that has a talent for pulling stud RBs out of the draft. Eddie George darn near got the nod, but I couldnt do it. Horn is a perenial top 5 reciever. He's a difference maker and George just isnt any more. So far my team is stocked with pretty explosion potential. Looking down the rosters it will need it. I passed up the obvious play for a roll of the dice, that I can find a #3 running back in this mess before the end of the draft, and still fill in my other spots. We shall see.
love the Moss pick. I might have gone Moulds over Horn, but I can't fault the pick.

Sometimes you just gotta take the best available player.
In a 14-team draft, taking three highly rated receivers and only one RB in a start 2/2 league is not so crazy - it is the classic zigging when others are zagging.IMO, Moss and Harrison are equivelant to any of the available RB2 candidates while the other WRs (with the possible exception of Holt) are not. After that there are only another 4-7 WRs worthy of WR1 status -and Boldin is one of them. He has a top WR corps. That shoudl keep him competitive, even if one gets injured/disappoints. I'd have probably wanted to address RB2 before WR3, but that is just me.

P.S. - Shock before both Gonzo and Heap is more of a surprise than that the Sharks went all the way into the 4th round before a TE was selected.Any of those top TEs are, at this point, probably good value.

 I wanted CuMart, but he didnt fall. I kinda like how my team is shaping up. 14 team league, I have a top 14 RB (IMO), and 3 top 14 WR (IMO). I am pretty happy at this point.

Alot of people are not going to like this pick:4.8 Mike Vick Show E George RBI really was hoping one of the big three TE's would fall, but with my luck all three went right before me. I just see so many good Qb's and Wr's left on the board. I feel that I can take a WR or QB 2 rounds from now and still have him rank close to the best QB or WR left on the board. There is not much talent left at RB and like I said before... You can never have too much depth at RB.Edit: My team thus far: Jamal Lewis BALTravis Henry BUF Curtis Martin NYJ Eddie George TEN

I can think of quite a few RBs I'd prefer over Eddie at that spot if looking for your RB3 or RB4. Two leap to mind very clearly.Edit: and you will be surprised with the drop you are about to experience in trying to add your first and second WR plus a QB, plus the fill-in positions, while picking a RB4 who might lose his job in training camp. Is he even re-signed yet?Oops sorry - forgot my muzzle.

No. He's not. And as I mentioned above - has he agreed to a pay cut yet?
slevin, I see what you are saying. However, those backs may produce more than Eddie, they wont produce more than the WR talent on the board. I think commish and I will be making some trades come week 3

I find it easier to get WR talent late in the draft or in free agency than RB talent.
to a certain degree, but not past WR1, you cant depend on 1 WR2 and 2 WR3. You will need to make a trade, and if you wait till week 3-4, you should get good value. Unless someone gets scared and wants the RB before week 1, then you get great value.

I still see about seven guys on the board who I think would be pretty nice WR1's.

some tough decisions coming up for me. It'll be awhile until I pick again. a QB seems like a must, but do I add depth to my RBs even though there are no starters left, or do I pick a WR... hmmmm

Burress has produced before, so hopefully he'll go back to his norm this year. I was going to go RB with the next pick, but at this point in a 14 team draft, filling out the starters is pretty important, so McNair's the obvious choice.

Just a brief summary of where I was going with those WR's.I knew all along when I went RB, QB, RB that I would pay for it in other areas. Andre Johnson and Charles Rogers are not Randy Moss and Marvin Harrison. They are both very young and unproven. Both showed signs of good things to come last year, but Rogers was hurt and Johnson inconsistent. The reason I chose them truthfully, is that they are the #1 WR for their respective teams. And there were not too many of those left. They both have the talent (#1 picks, great size/speed) and both have opportunity. Both are huge question marks to take that talent and seize their given opportunity, but I really didn't have much to choose from at this point in the draft.I did briefly consider a backup QB or RB at this point as the pools are so low, but I felt I couldn't wait any longer to land starting #1 WR's. Getting #1's has always been my philosophy. I would rather have a #1 WR on a poor team, than a #2 (Koren, Plaxico, Bruce, etc) on a good team most every time.

I took Krob BS, and I wouldn't exactly call him a number 2 WR on his team ... Him and Djax are like 1a and 1b... Last year Djax went much lower than Krob, so I drafted Djax.. This year, Krob is going lower, so I draft Krob... :)

I'd have bypassed Charles Rogers in favor of a certain WR that seems to, at this point, be the best value of any player on the board and fits your criteria.Edit: Excuse me, I just thought of two other receivers who fit your criteria and who are *probably* better choices than Charlie Rogers.Edit: and I just thought of one more.

5th round is typically the second tier QBs - Hass was the first - or the WRs who have retained value and fallen. With the big TEs gone, and the worthwhile fantasy RBs fairly well dried up Expect the remainder of the decent WR talent to start flying off the board.Within two rounds everyone will be grasping at straws, so a suggestion: think hard about what you still need to fill in.This is the main reason why I didn't like the Eddie George selection: 1-2-3-4 RBs in a 14 team draft will leave you far behind other teams in the valuable WR and QB areas as you head into a part of the draft where the remaining starter talent starts to get sucked up.
