All right Bears, which big #1 wr should we target? (1 Viewer)

It's a glaring weakness the Bears have at this time. We need to get Cutler a #1 wr like he had in Denver.

Who should we go after?

Moss? (Please God no...actually...couldn't be that bad...could it?)

Vjax

Sidney Rice

Burress?

Holmes

Edwards

Personally, I'd like to bet the house and go all in with a ton of draft picks for Fitz. Arizona has too many holes and an unhappy fitz would be worth a lot.

 
I'd say they need to focus first on that o-line.. and take whatever they can find at WR after that.. They don't have great WR's but seems like they could make due and fix the real problem first..

The bears have a low draft pick this year in a year of bad lineman. They're better off investing in some in the later half of the draft. They still need to find a bonified #1 wr which will be hard to find at their spot.
 
Of those I only would go for Holmes...

Moss NO (done, and would prob tear the locker room apart, Lovie too laid back, need a Belicheck type coach for him)

VJax won't be a FA

Rice NO (one good year when Favre was reinvented, not enough to buy in)

Edwards prob not (would take him cheap, but he won't come cheap, drops scare me)

Burress YES BUT (as a last resort, and if he hasn't regressed talent wise being in the big house)

Would give up our 1st and a package of players (Maybe Benette & Hanie) but no more picks, and that wouldn't be enough.

Low #1 means we can't get a good tackle, but Guard... Center... that we can get in the beginning of the draft.
 
I know you said #1 WR but can you take Berrian back? Maybe the Vikings can throw in cash. Oh, btw, you don't even need to give anything in return. The Vikings can even throw in a PTBNL for no extra charge.

 
Can Devin Aromashodu still not learn the offense by next fall? That would solve your WR problem. He's got the height and talent. And he needs to catch the ball better. Isn't he practicing catching 100 balls a day or more? Why aren't the Chicago beat writers looking into this? Or have they and I missed the article? Update?

I'd be down with Ochocinco. Guy still has some gas left in his tank and he probably could be had for cheap.Sidney Rice...i dunno. He could be Housh from a few years ago...one hit wonder. He doesn't have the resume to make me feel like he's worth the money they'd have to put up.
 
Not sure if Ocho would be a great fit as route running has never been his strength and it's a crucial part of a Martz system. Then again, Cutler does have a bit of Favre in him (ie goes off the playbook) and Chad might mesh well with a gun slinger.

We can go back to the summer of 2009 to see that the Vikings didn't think much of Rice either, as they tried to sign Housh themselves. I didn't think much of Rice myself, although he had scored 4 TDs in each of his first two seasons with limited opportunities. Then in 2009 he put up 8 and another 4 in two playoff games.I agree that there is risk but the good news is that he won't (shouldn't be) be a top-dollar free agent and as a young player you can give him a 4-year deal and both sides should be happy. Why I think he's the choice for the Bears is that he is the most similar to Marshall, 6'4"/200 lb., can get open playing to the inside or outside, and most importantly is a scorer.

Or a QB that has been in new systems the last 2 years with no real #1 WR threat and an average OL at best and has yet thrown for 20+ TDs cannot be the answer, can he? Or the QB that had a QB rating of >100 in a majority of his last 8 games last year cannot be the answer, can he? Cutler's worst games the last 2 years have been against GB, but that GB secondary has made every QB look bad. Just look at how great Big Ben looked in the SB. And most here think Big Ben is Jesus when it comes to the QB position.

I would have made the same comment about Cutler right after the loss in the NFC Championship, but in hindsight it had more to do with my disgust over losing the game and Cutler looking bored than because he isn't a good QB.The truth is Ben has a better OL and had Woodson out and the GB "D" still made him look bad so if you are giving up on Cutler you might as well give up on Ben.I think the trick is to not to have a kneejerk reaction. Martz needs a big guy for the middle and a couple scat backs who run quick slants and crisp routes. A. Hakim wasn't anything special until he worked with Martz so maybe he just needs some guys who really buy into his system. If Burress could be had cheap he might be the best option and could have a Vick-like comeback.

I heard about the above comments on my way back from lunch today. I think Faulk is spot on about Johnny Knox. While I agree with the sentiment that the Bears need to focus first on the offensive line I feel that a top notch WR is almost as important because they start 3 #3 WR types. I actually feel that James Jones who is probably listed as the Packers #4 WR is better than any of the WRs on the Bears roster. I agree with mlball77 that Jones is not a #1 WR. I would probably go after V Jax, Rice or Holmes. V Jax is really talented but I worry he may be trouble.

He also went on to say that the Bears don't have any pure wideouts who can run this offense.Faulk is right that several of the interceptions credited to Cutler aren't completely his fault. As we discussed in Knox's review, he needs to work on recognizing when he has run the wrong route and break up the interception. It's also about beating his man to the ball, which Faulk referenced.

this....revamp the whole group. Smart WRs. I would take a 1 year gamble with Plax and add someone else like a holmes or james jones. knox/hester solid slot guys.

 
James Jones is a typical FA - he will get overpaid but wont be a classic #1 . . . still Chicago will probably have to settle for a guy like him - and he's an upgrade over what they have . . .

I'm a Packer fan so I was just talking smack. I still dont think Cutler is the answer at QB though.
 
I hope they get Burress. Has Randy Moss really become a 5 catch in 5 games type of WR these days? I still find that hard to believe.....someone like Cutler could bring the best out of Moss IMO. The Titans seemed to have not even tried to throw to him after they traded for him.

amazing how much leeway Moss gets after multiple failures (in the same year) . . .
 
As a Packer fan who watched Burress torch our secondary in a certain NFC championship game, I think Burress would be a GREAT fit for the Bears with Cutler. WRs often play to an older age and Burress has an itching to work.

I have every expection that with an offseason training camp he will come back and be every bit as good or better than he was before. Skills do not atrophe as a result of age without wear and tear the way people often assume they do.

Rice had one great season. Housh had a few great seasons.

In hypothetical land this is as easy as a 7foot backyard rim layup, Vincent Jackson, , is the most talented ready to trade in his prime WR you can ever have...

I'd bet my house that there is going to be at least one good tackle chosen after the first round. You just have to figure out which one.

You know what? I use to think that, but his stats don't back up his hype. Here's his stats. Since 2005, he's broken 1000 yards twice, and never scored more than 9tds. Are these numbers good? Are they ELITE? this is surprising to me. i thought ocho was known for his precise, sharp, and fast route running. i thought i remembered him being regarded as one of hte best route runners in the game.

He is a great route runner when he runs the right one.
