Good thread topic btw, I will be looking into some of the recommendations for myself. I have been drinking bourbon for years and meaning to branch out into tequila. Do you guys drink your tequila on the rocks or neat/chilled?
In the old blue agave forums it was agreed there is no right way, but the right way is:
Neat like cognac, room temperature, some chill the blancos. Sip it. The salt and lime thing was a doctor's prescription from the 30s trying to use tequila as medicine for some illness I forget. His thinking was the training wheels made it more palatable and fun for kids. Since a doctor prescribed it, it caught on. But premium tequilas are somewhat new to the last 3-4 decades and lime and salt with them is missing out on the premiumness. I use a snifter; a tall shot glass called a caballito is traditional.
