Pele, Messi, Maradona, all fine players...

...but can they do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke?

19.x Britannia Stadium - Backup Stadium

Zidane or Zico zipping passes around, controlling the game?  Sub in the ol' Britannia and watch their spirit break.  Can't wait to see these fancy Brazilians and Spaniards crumble under the austere conditions of the Britannia.  Gamechanger?  You know it.

As you may be aware, FC Roonzai has an exemplary record of bringing youth into the squad from the Academy.  Our latest promotion is an exciting prospect with fine balance and a powerful shot.  The teenager has made impressive progress through the ranks and has been in the first-team squad since 2015.

20.xx Marcus Rashford - Future Legend - FWD

We're fighting over the last two picks.

I'm trying to talk tasker out of Hector Bellerin and he's trying to talk me out of Sammy Lee for assistant manager

19.14 - Roberto Ayala - Center Back - Argentina

Played as a centre back for the Argentine National Football Team, as well as the Spanish giant Valencia and prominent Spanish side Zaragoza, the Italian giants Milan and Napoli, and the Argentine powerhouse River Plate.

Regarded as one of the best central defenders of his generation, he stood out for his leadership and ability in the air throughout his career.[1] Ayala captained the Argentine national team in a record 63 matches.[2] He played in three World Cups and made a total of 115 international appearances, with only Javier Zanetti getting more caps for Argentina.

In honor of Leicester City's impending Champions League Title..

20.4 - Gary Lineker - England - Striker

He holds England's record for goals in FIFA World Cup finals, with 10 scored.

Lineker began his football career at Leicester City. Despite failing to score in his first ten games, he finished as the First Division's joint top goalscorer in 1984–85. He then moved to League Champions Everton where he developed as a clinical finisher, scoring 30 goals in 41 games. His first team honours came at Barcelona, where he won the Copa del Rey in 1988 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1989. He returned to England in 1989, joining Tottenham Hotspur, and over three seasons he scored 67 goals in 105 games and won the FA Cup. Lineker's final club was Nagoya Grampus Eight and he retired in 1994 after two seasons at the Japanese side.

Lineker made his England debut in 1984, earning 80 caps and scoring forty-eight goals over an eight-year international career, finishing as England's second highest scorer behind Bobby Charlton, before he was overtaken by Wayne Rooney (1st). His international goals-to-games ratio remains one of the best for the country and he is regarded as one of the all-time best English strikers. He was top scorer in the 1986 World Cup and received the Golden Boot, the only time an Englishman has achieved this feat. He is also the only player to have won the English golden boot with three different clubs (Leicester City, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur).

Even though he enjoyed a long career, Lineker was never cautioned by a referee for foul play and never received a yellow or red card.[1][2] As a result of this accomplishment he was honoured in 1990 with the FIFA Fair Play Award. In a senior career which spanned 16 years and 567 competitive games, Lineker scored a total of 282 goals at club level. Added to the 48 goals he scored in internationals, he managed a total of 330 goals. After his retirement from football he was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame. He later led a consortium that invested in his old club Leicester, saving it from bankruptcy, and was appointed honorary vice-president.

Somewhere, a sad Joe Cole wonders if Gator/Tasker will ever remember his contributions to Liverpool's lore.
I recall this

I thought "well, if he's signed on a free, what could go wrong"

Waste of money in salary alone.

I'd take that cunt Michael Owen first still

Meanwhile, despite his pricey salary, James Milner looks to be an inspired free signing by comparison. Maddening with the occasional "damn, not bad" > Cole's "ugh not him again" (direct quote from myself during that era)

He's also still available in this draft. :coffee:

Personal favorite Joe Cole story (10 years ago now!):

ENGLAND star Joe Cole told last night how he feared for his life when he was beaten up over glamour girl Keeley Hazell.

Cole, 24, said: "I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and the fella could have killed me."

The Chelsea star was set upon at 5am last Sunday morning by a man believed to be a jealous male friend of Keeley.

Covered in blood and bruises, Cole says he fled through an open window and ran bare-chested and shoeless to a cabbies office.

In an exclusive interview with the Sunday Mirror, the midfielder insisted he wasn't "trying to pull" Keeley.

He said he simply fell asleep during a party at 19-year-old Keeley's South London home but woke to find a mystery man hitting him - as another watched.

Last night Keeley's bodybuilder boyfriend Lloyd Miller, 29, refused to confirm or deny that he'd given Cole a hiding...and then demanded pounds 30,000 for his tale.

Meanwhile Cole told how his fight or flight instinct took over. He said: "Thinking about it now, I worry that anything could have happened. But the only thing going through my head was I had to get out of there. That was my overriding urge. Just to get out.

"I was just lucky the window was open - so I could escape."

Explaining his decision to speak publicly about the incident, Cole said: "I didn't want to because I want to be on the back pages and not the front. But it's gone too far - so I just want to put it to rest."

Cole, hoping to win the World Cup with England this summer, told how he and pals - believed to include Chelsea teammate John Terry, West Ham stars Anton Ferdinand and Bobby Zamora - went to the trendy Embassy club in London's West End late last Saturday night.

Others there included Keeley and her model friends Leilani Dowding, 25, and Lauren Pope, 23.

Cole, who earns pounds 60,000 a week, was celebrating Chelsea's 2-1 FA Cup win over Huddersfield.

HE said: "I was having a drink with a few mates. I decided I was going back for an after-party at another player's house.

"We all jumped in a cab but we couldn't get hold of him on the phone. So we ended up going to a house party in South London instead."

The party was at a semidetached house in Grove Park - brunette Keeley's home.

Cole added: "We went in and we started having a few drinks and a party. I ended up staying and fell fast asleep in the front room.

"People must have left and I' don't know what time in the morning it was. But suddenly I was woken up because there was ' someone jumping on me, hitting me. There were two men.

"One was jumping on me and the other was right behind me. It was terrifying. My first thought when I woke up and he was on me was to get out of the house.

"I just wanted to get the fella off me as quick as I could and get out of the house and get home.

"I don't know who the two men were. I've never met the guy who was hitting me and I wouldn't recognise him now if I saw him. They didn't say anything to me I had to protect myself so we ended up scuffling - but I just had to get out of there."

During the party, someone had opened the front room window because it had got so hot inside the house, and this was Cole's 5am escape route.

He said: "I jumped out. I was just lucky it was open. It was a silly thing to do. I shouldn't have been there. Luckily, I only ended up with a few scratches on my face."

In the fracas, Cole dropped some valuables. He said: "I lost money and my mobile, but nothing major." He ran to taxi firm Far and Near Minicabs.

Witnesses said he was covered in cuts, bruises and was dripping blood. His shirt was ripped off and he'd lost his shoes. A worker there said: "Joe was in a right state."

Even now Cole, who lives with his girlfriend - personal trainer Carly Zucker, 23, in Cobham, Surrey - says he does not know why he was attacked - but says it had nothing to do with beauty Keeley. He added: "It wasn't over a girl. It wasn't down to any reason I could think of. It was a case of falling asleep in the wrong place."

His night out came after helping inspire Chelsea to seven wins over Christmas, leaving his club on target to win their second Premiership title in succession.

He revealed: "I just wanted to let my hair down after Christmas. It was the first time I had been out in months. It's unfortunate."

Cole now wants to forget it and concentrate on football. He hopes to be in the Chelsea team this afternoon at Sunderland. Talking of his manager Jose Mourinho, he said: "We both just want to get back to playing. Things happen off the pitch but I can't wait to get out and play. It happened. It's gone, I was lucky I got out of it."

He vowed: "I'm just going to look after myself, my family and Carly and get on with my life."

Lloyd Miller, who lives near Keeley, would not say if he beat Cole, saying: "I'm not going to tell you am I?" When told Cole's version he said: "It doesn't matter if it's true. You haven't offered me 30-grand. You haven't done what I want so I can tell you what I want. Anyway it wasn't me."

A pal of Lloyd, who played for non-league Maidstone I last season, said he'd been I seeing Keeley for a month.

He said Lloyd got a call from Keeley at 4.15 am asking him to go round.

"He went there and Cole was on the sofa with his top off. He asked if Cole was all right and he was shouting at Lloyd."

Keeley Hazell was indeed worth getting beaten up for.

That said, she was 19 at the time and her boyfriend was 29. Isn't that creeper/ :homer:  territory?

I like that he woke up shirtless in her house but it was because he just "fell asleep during a party".  Call me crazy, but I've never fallen asleep at a friend's party on the couch and woken up shirtless.  Must've been one hell of a party.

Should be subbing Pires further up-field IMO

Right now, Group C is our only group where all teams have fully drafted.  Also, because it's a four player group, it's not as complicated to set-up our first games as Group A.  Soooooo.  Group C is now Group A and Group A is now Group C.

I have flipped virtual coins to determine Home and Away matchups.  Home teams are listed first (kind of a fluke, but Native starts all three on the road while Lehigh starts with 3 home games).

So here is how El Floppo's team would look now, if we assume this is his starting lineup.  I had to make some guesses.  The idea of Helenio Herrera ever fielding this lineup is kind of funny to me.

So Floppo obviously needs more central defenders.  I could give him an undrafted ST that would be a great bench option for him.  I have a backup keeper that I wish I had taken.  Any other thoughts?

A free beer and Vape fill for any girl wearing Yoga pants!

I will go with Amsterdam Arena (Dutch pronunciation:[ˌɑmstərˈdɑm aːˈreːnaː], officially stylised asAmsterdam ArenA) is a stadium inAmsterdamNetherlands. It is the largest stadium in the country and it was built from 1993 to 1996 at a cost of €140 million, and was officially opened on 14 August 1996. It has been used for association football,American football, concerts and other events.[1] The stadium has a retractable roofcombined with a grass surface. It has acapacity of 53,502 seats for football matches and 68,000 seats during concerts if a centre-stage setup is used (the stage in the middle of the pitch); for end-stage concerts, the capacity is 50,000, and for concerts where the stage is located in the east side of the stadium, the capacity is 35,000. It held UEFA five-star stadium status which was superseded by a new system of classification.

The stadium is the home of the association football club AFC Ajax (since 1996) and was the home of the now-defunct American football club Amsterdam Admirals (1997–2007). It was one of the stadiums used duringEuro 2000, and also held the 1998 UEFA Champions League Final and 2013 UEFA Europa League Final. The stadium will also host three group stage matches and one match in the 1/8 final of the Euro 2020. Both international and Dutch artists have given concerts in the ArenA, including Celine Dion,MadonnaMichael JacksonAndré Hazes,David BowieAC/DCOne Direction and The Rolling Stones. The dance event Sensation is held in the stadium every year.

OK guys, we have a choice.  We can either try to tinker with the "game engine" or get started.  As it stands, luck plays a huge role.  I can't reduce that too much, but I could tinker around the margins.  We'll also see fairly high scoring games.  The engine is prejudiced to stuff happening.

Also, there is no direct effect for stadium or managers, I'd ask the voters to consider those things in the other votes.

I don't know if you guys want to wait until we feel comfortable or just get some games going for fun.

Managers should be listed with the bench guys, easy to do and they should affect a vote.

Stadiums I get, more for funsies

But what bonus should a manager get?  Maybe a manager can nullify any one bonus received by the other team?

So let's say Team A has the chance creation advantage, the GK advantage, and the bench advantage.

Team B has finishing and manager.  Team B can either turn one of Team A's advantage rolls into a Neutral roll, eliminate the savings rolls for goal keepers, or neutralize the best of 2 substitute advantage.

and everyone should list their teams like this so it's easy for RHE to copy/paste it to the game threads

19.17 Bryan Robson, M, England

A box-to-box midfielder and like-for-like replacement for Matthaus and Neeskens.

20.1 Amadeo Carrizo, GK, Argentina

Amadeo Carrizo was not just a great goalkeeper, he redefined the position and changed the way in which goalkeepers played the game. The history of goalkeeping could almost be broken up into the pre and post-Carrizo eras, such was his influence. He was the first goalkeeper to begin wearing gloves, the first to leave his box and act as a sweeper, and the first to use his distribution as a method of launching attacks rather than merely clearing the ball from danger.

The other thing I'd mention is that the "pre-game" (i.e. the voting period) is pretty important.  So the participants in a game should post their thoughts and expectations or fake bulletin board material, whatever to keep the thread on the first page and try to attract some votes.
