Ardiles is a consummate team player who can slot in among a team of galacticos and leave his mark without having to dominate play. But he's also capable of moments of individual brilliance like his golazo (!) vs. the Nazis in 1944

Since I didn't draft a cold-blooded killer at DM to start for me, I need some depth there, but like Toure, I'd like a guy that can also push the ball forward as well and contribute to the offensive fireworks Ronaldo, Gento and the African Strike Force will provide up front. He's a relative young'n and he's still pretty badass (though he's not a killer like Bullet Tooth Tony). He'll primary be subbed in for Didi late in games to protect the lead, but I can also bring him in in offensive situations, too and will likely be one of my top PK takers, which means he definitely comes on in extra time.

A skilful playmaker, who dictated the tempo of the game, ‘Ago’ was tall, elegant, and had fantastic vision and technical ability. He would regularly hit pinpoint 60-yard passes to a team-mate’s feet and would spot through-balls that most other players did not know existed. His style of play was in some ways similar to Andrea Pirlo today. Di Bartolomei played 308 games for Roma, scoring 66 goals, and captaining them to the Scudetto in 1983.

Pretty sure I got this thing wrapped up with just 12 players and a manager. Modern fitness, modern nutrition, modern not drinking yourself stupid 12 hours before the game -- your daguerreotype dinosaurs have no chance. We can play all our games on the road and we'll still take it down.
But in fairness to the silver medal contenders I don't want to end this early, so I'll go ahead and pretend we need subs and a stadium.

This guy, like Vidal, is still in his twenties in real life. This guy, also like Vidal, currently plays for Bayern Munich. This guy, again like Vidal, can play multiple positions. He's not a killer like Mascherano, but his calm, disciplined approach is still effective, and the fact that he can play all four of my defensive positions makes him valuable to me. He'll be my primary backup for Cafu and Lizarazu for sure.
