All your eggs in one basket? (1 Viewer)

As a strategy, how good/bad of an idea is it to have three week-in, week-out starters on your fantasy squad from the same NFL team? Specifically, I got Tiki in a trade this weekend, but already own Plaxico and Shockey. This got me to thinking - in general terms (not specific to my situation) how many folks would actually consider doing this, and why/why not?

In this instance, if the Giants throw up a clunker, I may be in serious trouble. But in a performance format (1/10 rush & rec, PPR) even a lack of touchdowns can get me serious points. How often is this offense going to get completely shut down? There are some offenses (OAK, DEN, TEN) where this is definitely a BAD idea, but what about teams that are regularly putting up serious points so far (CHI, SD, PHI)?

Other possible 3 player combos are out there, too, especially if you consider the QB position as well.

Well, it is hit or miss. Yesterday would have hit for the Giants.

As for regularly putting up points, I do not expect any team to regularly put up points. There are always tough defenses and off days for an offense. I prefer to diversify, but I can see why some might want to go this route for the potential sexy results if a team blows up.

I generally start Driver & Jennings and occasionally Green (my #4Rb) as well because I've had to due to injuries or some players taking a little longer to get started than I anticipated. I would love to swap out either Jennings or Driver to get a little better team balance but there aren't that many Wr's outproducing either of them so I'm willing to roll the dice.

I started J Kitna, K Jones, and R Williams yesterday and it worked out fine. Didn't really plan it that way, but I just traded for Kitna this past week and started him due to other QB problems.

In one league I have Bulger, SJax, Holt, and Wilkins.

Didn't intend it, just worked out that way. Fantasy football is based on individual performances. I think some owners go overboard analyzing the effects of starting other players in the same game either on same or opposing team. This seems silly to me as the best strategy would be to put your best players in and draft the statistically best players possible. If the team itself is good enough, each will get his. Only thing to consider IMO is the fact that for one week your team will be heavily depleted from a bunch of players on bye.

Bulger, SJax and Holt owner here. (I had the STL Def, as well, early in the year and started them twice).I'm 3-3.This week will be tough as my #1 backup to Bulger is Grossman (BYE), and I also have JLewis, BAL Def and Colston on BYE this week as well.So it'll be Kitna, TBell, Turner :o , Wayne, LEvans, Vandershank and KC Def in Week 7 :bag: If I were 5-1 I would be laughing but now I'm questioning this strategy. If I had it to do over again I'd probably grab Rudi or McGahee instead of SJax...

An owner in my league started LT, Turner, Gates annd Chargers D. Besides Turner, all the other guys put up superb numbers.

I got Bulger, Holt and SJax and I'm in first place with a huge cushion. We do head to head and total points, and when the rams were up yesterday I started to wonder if I'd be screwed at the the end of the year if the Rams clinch early and rest the starters. I doubt it will come to that. Not looking forward to week 7 at all.

One owner in my keep 3 league had: SA, Rudi, and Chad Johnson

.......then proceeded to draft C.Palmer at the end of our 1st round.

He's now 2-4 also.

I'm not a fan of the all eggs in one basket approach ... not even too comfortable with QB/WR combo.

I snatched up Keading and San Diego after the week 3 bye. As a result I've been playing 4 Chargers every week.... LT, Gates, Kaeding, and San Diego. To top it off I have Bulger and Holt too.

Needless to say things have been going well so far this year.

I have McNabb and Westbrook and I'm trying to trade for LJ. The WR's I wouldn't touch with a 20 ft poll.
You wouldn't like my team, then. I haveWestbrookStallworthR. BrownL.J. SmithI drafted Stallworth before the trade. I thought about trading him pre-season but changed my mind. Now, with the injury plauged Eagles status, I'll hang on to both WRs. I don't count the TE position in my eggs in 1 basket analysis. Westy is make or break in a PPR league. I couldn't pass on him in my draft, even though I wish I did.The thing is that I drafted other WRs such as Ward, Coles, and Rod Smith. Ward and Smith are not doing much, but at least Ward was projected to, and may still produce later. The point is that originally, I drafted what I thought were 3 viable non-starter Eagles WRs.My team was not drafted with the intention of putting a lot of eggs in 1 basket, but it has turned out that way in terms of my starting roster. My bottom line is that you can hopefully diversify the risk later in the draft and via WW often.

I generally like to diversify, but this year have ended up with Grossman as my #1, TJ my #2, and the Chicago defense--frequently playing them all at once the way they're going. At one point I also had Muhammad or Berrian, but dropped them just for the odds--especially since you never know which will get the points each week. At least I'm looking at three different scoring potentials (pass, run, and defense) so the odds are pretty good at least one will hit!

I usually like to mix my players but I do have 1 team that I might as well call the Philly Chargers. I have McNabb, Westbrook, Buckhalter, Stallworth, Reggie Brown, and Akers from Philly. I also have LT, Kaeding, and SD def. So far, so good. I will be 6-0 after this week.

Having productive players froma high scoring team is great!!!!!!!!!

Until they all sit week #16 like the colts did last year. So be carefull.

ive been playing LT/Gates all year and have even deployed my #2 QB Rivers in certain games alongside them with great results.

but i think SD might be the exception to the risk rule considering where those 2 offensive weapons rank in terms of talent
