I like him a lot.
me toodon't know who you all are comparing him too but he's light years ahead of guys like Randy Cross and Dierdorfand I don't think we even have to mention Jim Mora (who may be a worse announcer than he was a coach)I also find him more insightful than Simms and easier to take than Gruden, but I can understand if you prefer one of them to Collinsworth...but horrible? no I can't see that at allI like him a lot.![]()
Worthless. The Guy Fieri of color guys.
Happens to a lot of broadcasters. When they first get the job, they put extra effort in. After they've been in the business a while, they begin to notice how other broadcasters get by on acting goofy instead of knowledgeable, and the temptation grows to slack off. Eventually, if they give in, they become annoying, and replaced by younger, hungrier prospects that put effort into their work.I used to like him a lot more before he got a full time gig calling games. He seemed to be infinitely more knowledgeable than most of the turds that call the games. Now that he's the man, he seems to be regressing to the mean, overhyping players, and overdramatizing things. Still in the upper tier of broadcasters, but that's not much of a compliment.
I agree. I especially hate when he pretends to know the words or thoughts of the players.I hate him. He drives me insane. I have a hard time enjoying any game he calls.
He doesn't like Michael Vick so he was eager to pump up Matt Ryan as soon as possible. It's like Vick being out didn't make a difference in the analysis or the accolades heaped on Ryan. I think if Vick had played out the entire game the Eagles win, but I understand if people want to post a differing opinion. Was the Atlanta win really that great? They didn't beat the Eagles at 100% strength.
I'd wager there's a lot of pressure on broadcasts by the networks to sell the game and it's players. Not to hype everyone, but to look for opportunities to laud performances.Happens to a lot of broadcasters. He provides good insight and seems to have a solid handle on positions other than WR. But I agree that his tone and delivery are often irritating and detract from what he is saying. He has a real smarmy tone of voice that grates on me.
Agree with this. I can understand why his voice or mannerisims might grate on some but as you said he's excellent at quickly breaking down plays and at this point still seems to prefer talking X's and O's after a play over blathering some ridiculous hyperbole about how amazing some player is.He can break down plays almost instantly at times, even before the replay so I think he's a very good analyst to have in the booth. Sure, he can press at times etc but he's an excellent commentator. He understands the nuances of the game and points things out that most completely miss.
hey now, you leave Guy out of this..he is good, CC blows....Worthless. The Guy Fieri of color guys.
This. His tone and his pencil neck are such a fitting combination. Mute would be perfect, but I like to hear the sound of the game. One day we'll be able to just mute the commentators. That will be a great day.He has a real smarmy tone of voice that grates on me.
Classic. That is a true Yogi Berraism where you know exactly what he means (that a game isn't decided until the clock is 00:00) but still sounds ridiculous. He had a classic Yogi Berraism last night: "Are we ever going to have a game that doesn't end on the last play?"
my collinsworth hate is well established. His combination of arrogance and ignorance is painful. He was a great WR but is one of the worst announcers out there IMHO.He has a real smarmy tone of voice that grates on me.
X gruden is the opposite to me. he is as arrogant if not more, but he says really insightful things and points out things that actually matter, and that I often had not noticed or considered about schemes/defenses etc.Collingsworth tries to do this, but is usually wrong, and often not even talking about the right player for e.g.Gruden set the new bar for sound terrorism to me. Anything that isn't him sounds pleasant.
