Amani Toomer (1 Viewer)

gheemony

Based on the past few years, I am hesitant to pick this guy up, but he's had 17 catches on 20 targets for 178 yards and 2 TDs. Plax has 17 targets. Shockey for 10. Is this similar to Peyton throwing to Harrison and Wayne where Toomer still picks up enough points as a #2? Is he now the #1 guys because Eli doesn't like Plax?

I need to pick up a WW WR and he's there along with Cotchery, Bruce, and Jennings. I think Cotchery is choice 1, but someone else may get him ahead of me.

NYG homers - thoughts?

Not a homer, but I think you are wrong about Toomer's last few years.

His 3 years average FF Points puts him at #32, and he was #31 last year.

I drafted Toomer late in all of my leagues this year. He's a pretty dependable WR3, if you ask me. Let's look at how he ended this year and started this year.

Week 10 last year - 6 catches, 61 yards, 1 TD

Week 11 last year - 6 catches, 56 yards, 1 TD

Week 12 last year - 6 catches, 62 yards, 1 TD

Week 13 last year - a stinker. 1 catch only. AWFUL game for Eli.

Week 14 last year - 6 catches, 54 yards.

Week 15 last year - 5 catches, 69 yards, 1 TD

Week 16 last year - 6 catches, 85 yards, 1 TD

Week 1 this year - 5 catches, 41 yards

Week 2 this year - 12 catches, 137 yards, 2 TD

Pretty amazing consistency and little downside for Amani with Eli at QB. So far this year, Amani has 20 targets and Plax has 17 targets. Burress gets much more pub than Toomer gets but there are few steadier WR than Toomer, in my opinion. Yesterday was obviously an aberration but I think he should DEFINITELY be on a roster in 12 team leagues.

Also, Shockey was hobbling all over the field yesterday and wasn't on the field during the winning drive. He does get nicked up a good deal and that should only keep Amani's targets at a good level.

Toomer historically (going from memory, anyway) will blow up for one or two games every year and be a barely decent WR3 otherwise. Lot of 5-50 type games.

I think he can be a very productive WR3. As Eli has gotten better he has been better able to spread the ball around.

In addition, teams focus on stoping Plax and regularly double team him forcing Eli to look to other players. Toomer has benefited the most from this, which can be seen from the end of last year and so far this year.

Eli was giving him a ton of looks this game and if he is available I would pick him up.

Toomer was very good the last 5 weeks of 2005. I was tageting him this year late..but so were several other people. I did not get him.

Plax will still draw the #1 CB, and Eli is getting better. He's a talented WR that is a little slower then he used to be, but with Shockey also getting attention, he'll get his targets.

NYG has a fairly tough schedule, but week 16 is against New Orleans who has already given Driver and Winslow good points, and in their division I'd be willing to bet they will still be playing for something at that point. They also have a few light passing games with HOU and TEN.

Personally, I have him in my potential flex spot depending on match-up.

I think Toomer will have a return to some of his previous years. Plax makes the circus catch but is he reliable on 3rd down and 6? Toomer is the guy manning is looking for in crucial moments. I think he has a lot of value as a WR3 on most rosters right now.

You could also sell him pretty high right now if you think he is going downhill from here the rest of the way.

It seemed the Eagles D was giving them Toomer and taking away everything else. Carter has been very impressive whenever I see him play in preseason or the big catch yesterday. Speedy Sinorice had his first catch yesterday. I expected them to really bite into Toomer's playing time this year. However, the older WR showed he's still got it. Depth is a good problem for the G-men.

Toomer was switched from the #1 WR to #2 WR last year and struggled some adjusting to it. You can see from the stats he got better as the year went on.

In 2004, he was banged up and the Giants O struggled alot that year.

Toomer's good. He's not great but he's certainly a good player.I'm not sure I'd ever start him in FF other than a bye week filler. I didn't expect a huge game from him though. IMO You "have to" pick him up if he's available. WW loses it's purpose if you don't think a guy with his stats yesterday is a worthwhile pickup. IF he reverts to 5 catches for 50 yards and you dump him later on, OK fine but it's still a necessary process in FF.

:goodposting: You've definitely opened my eyes. 5-50 with a chance for more is fine by me. I am looking for consistency out of my WR3. He can replace Kennison, who was purchased for that role, until Green is healthy and KC shows they can pass again. And he has the potential to replace R. Moss if the Raiders don't right the ship.Of course, how does he compare in relation to Cotchery and Bruce? Seems like Bruce is the same type of player, but not as good a choice because STL offense is still working out the kinks and Holt really is the better WR. As for Cotchery, seems like Toomer is the safer choice, but Cotchery has more upside.

Thoughts?

Between Cotchery and Toomer, I would rather have Cotchery. The Giants have a bunch of different options as Bri pointed out and he could disappear. I think the Jets on the otherhand will be forced to throw a ton in almost every game because there rushing offense just stinks. Cotchery has a ton of upside, which Toomer does not have.

I'll admit I was wrong about Toomer, at least in week 2.

Plax & Toomer are not like Harrison Wayne, Plax & Shockey are. Toomer is the 3rd option in the passing game. This week was an abberation, with the extra OT period & passing most of the time. Eli will not throw for 350 very often. I credit Toomer's 20 targets to that, and good coverage on Plax & Shockey.

Toomer has always been ridiculously inconsistent, even was he was option #1 years ago. He will get some TDs & 2-3 big games this year, but is best served as a bye week filler. If you pick the right weeks, he's a good WR3.

I think a lot of people will start him this week at WR3 expecting a repeat, & get 4 grabs for 41 yards.
