So I'm thinking about finally getting an Kindle for reading. Why would I get a Paperwhite for $99 when the non-HD Fire is $49?

I like reading on the Kindles because they're not back-lit (God knows, I stare at enough tech like that anyway). It's just easier for me to read on pw devices.

Which ones are you referring to that are non back-lit?

The paper white looks like a book you can read it anywhere.

Quick question on the Fire Stick thing. I read all the descriptions, about how it offers Hulu, Netflix, etc - I don't need all that - I already stream it through another console. I'm wondering if I can stream anything at all to the stick to play on the TV. For example, a college basketball game that I can watch for free on my lap top - can I stream that to the TV with this Fire Stick even though it's not one of the paid services?

The Chromecast is a better device for that IMO.

Never used the Fire Stick, but it comes with a remote, which I think is a big advantage over the Chromecast.

Personally, I hate the Chromecast. But all I'd ever tried to use it for was watching Netflix and MLB.tv. For those, I don't want to stream on my phone and cast. That's awful cumbersome (and slow) when there are options to use something with those apps built in (I much prefer Roku), rather than have my phone or laptop tied to watch Netflix on my TV.

Talking about Fire stick.I've streamed vids on my phone just fine.

I've streamed xfinity on demand just fine

Hit or miss with some other apps.

Never tried using a laptop

FWIW, the Chromecast doesn't stream through your phone/device. The Chromecast just grabs the link from your device and then streams directly from the link.
