Amazon Prime (5 Viewers)

I do and it's okay. The screen crapped out after six months which they replaced, but I had to pay for shipping and it sucks to be computerless for a week.

Like I said, it's okay. Had much worse experiences with my old Dell.
thanks for the reply.

How is the battery life? will mostly use this for streaming, browsing, and excel/word. how is the screen resolution?

I have been really happy with Prime.  No problems and they jumped on a 3rd party vendor & immediately got all up in their #### to get my refund back (Indian drop shipper ...didn't know when I ordered it).

Plus Amazon Prime video.  I wish I got that kind of value from everything else I spent money on.

Ordered Friday was delivered Sunday!!!

I've had a couple issues but not like ones people are posting about.

I never purchase things on prime if I'm under the gun to get it though

Not to mention prime music. Downloaded about 200 songs to my phone this weekend.

Yes, all found on network TV or NFL Network in addition to Amazon. Complete waste of $50 million big ones...

Sources confirmed to ESPN that the deal to stream the games, which will be simulcast on the NFL Network and either CBS or NBC, is worth $50 million, up from the $10 million that Twitter paid for the streaming in the deal last season.
If it's like the last couple years, the second half of the season, the games are only available on NFL Network, which does not come standard with most cable packages. So that's where the Twitter streaming (and now Amazon streaming) comes in handy.

My bad, I took the article as saying every game was simulcast in one of the networks. I always watch the NFL Network version so I wasn't aware they weren't simulcast every week. Makes a little more sense now I guess.

Anyone use Unlimited Music and can give a short review on the quality and selection? Got a couple of Echo's for Xmas that I love except for the song selection on Prime Music which has been lacking since they started this new Unlimited service (for instance Zeppelin was on Prime for a long time but is not anymore.) Prime users get a discount if you pay for a year up front, would be a couple of bucks cheaper per month than the other streaming services I use plus can play stuff over the Echo.

not to be confused with Amazon "music unlimited" which is a fee based service
Right. I'm gonna guess that if someone is at all serious about music, they will not be happy with the selection that comes with Prime. I'm willing to listen to just about anything, so it works ok for me. Of course, I'm just assuming Music Unlimited has greater depth  and breadth than simple Prime.

I can't figure out how to download the songs without the paid service.  My phone says I have to change my settings to allow for mobile downloads but don't see how to do that in my settings.
In the Amazon Music app, tap the Gear icon on the home screen (top left corner). There's a "Download only on Wifi" that could be causing that. That's the only thing I have switched on and I can download with no problems. There aren't any download settings (in iOS, anyway) in the Settings->Amazon Music settings.

I don't run it cordless often but when I do it's while using PowerPoint (I don't know if that uses a lot of power or not). Lasts about 6 hours or so. The resolution is great and I think it would work fine for your son's purposes.
thanks. saw in some reviews the screen and the keyboard are possible issues

Yeah, I don't know what that refers to. I'm typing on it right now and they seem fine to me.

Overall it's an okay computer. I'm sure you could do better if you did some research but if you're like me and just wanted something to work out of the box, you could do a lot worse, too.
appreciate the responses! I have done quite a bit of research and it has everything my GF needs, just nice to get feedback from someone that actually owns it.

I remember having seen the "download only wifi" before.  When I go to settings I don't see it or the alternative ... :bag:

If I go with the mobile download will it automatically do that for my podcasts?  That would rack up a lot more data usage.

The music selection can definitely be limited on Prime. Some bands have tons of songs out there. Others have few (Alter Bridge for example) or none at all (Tool). But I have no idea if the fee based one would be any better. Maybe some bands just don't like online distro?

on hold with customer service, about to go ballistic b/c we ordered something we need for a costume party for tomorrow night and it was guaranteed to be delivered today.  Now they USPS is saying they haven't received it yet and can't promise it will get here by tomorrow when we need it.  If they can't get it fixed it's going to royally #### up my day tomorrow trying to find something new.

Update?

I'm curious how this all turned out for you.

At the conclusion of the call I was on while I posted....they agreed to refund the money and told me I could keep the item (which did me no good if it got there too late).

The next morning, we woke up and my wife checked her notifications and it said "delivered, left in mailbox".....we go outside and of course it wasn't there.  I'm fuming at this point.  She calls Amazon, they get USPS on the phone "it says check in mailbox, are you sure it's not there".  They tell her to check all over the porch, yard etc in case it blew away.   Of course it's not there.

So her only option was to go to target...15 minutes each way and find something.  She does this and I get in the car and see if I can track the mailman down...which I do.  I tell him what happened "Oh yeah, I scan them all in right away b/c sometimes the scanner in my battery runs out".  He digs through the truck and finds it for me.

I was so freaking pissed.  I haven't gone back to Amazon to let them know yet, but I will

I use Music Unlimited. I've never used Spotify, Google Music or any of the others, so I can't compare, but I do like Music Unlimited quite a bit. I think the difference betweem Prime Music and Music Unlimited is something like 2 million songs vs. 30+ million songs. I started a few playlists on Prime Music, but noticed a lot of stuff I couldn't get. Haven't seen anything I've searched for that I could get on Unlimited (though, it certainly exists).

I gather that Spotify has some things that Unlimited doesn't, but I haven't noticed.

For the price difference (paying a year up front), Unlimited seems to be a great option. Service works well, interface is great, and great selection, and it's not much more than half the cost of Spotify (assuming you are a Prime customer anyway and pay upfront). Not counting all the many ways to get at least 5% or more back for Amazon purchases.

Wow.  I'm glad I asked, because it confirms a suspicion I had from a recent time something similar happened to me.  I have had really good luck with over 95% of our shipments coming on time.  The last time one didn't, I got the "delivery, left in mailbox" notification, but didn't get it until the next day.  I figured it was USPS' fault, and that they scanned it but didn't actually deliver it.  Our weekday carrier is awesome, but this was a weekend delivery and those carriers haven't been as good for us.  Fortunately, I didn't need it on time, so it was no big deal and I didn't bother following up on it.

Thanks, thinking I may switch to Unlimited and drop my other streaming service. I think they all have their pluses and minuses on catalog selection especially since some artists sign exclusive contracts now. Some reviews I've read give high marks to the amazon interface, playlist stuff and other features. I am a heavy amazon user and have had Prime for a long time, with my Echo, Kindle Fire, etc. just makes sense to switch to them especially with the price break.

For others that are interested there is a 30 day free trial on Unlimited Music as well.

So these guys kind of suck now.

I have an 8 hour flight coming up with my toddler on Friday so I ordered a kids tablet to try and keep him entertained.  It was 90 bucks.  I ordered last Friday, "guaranteed" delivery on Monday.

Well, Wednesday rolls around and I still don't have it.  Tracking info says it's somewhere out there but they're not sure where or when it will arrive.  So I order another to make sure I get one by Friday because this flight will be a disaster without it.  Problem is, the price has gone up to $130.

So I contact customer service and explain the situation and ask if they can adjust the price so I'm not paying extra for a replacement item that they lost.  They say they totally understand and it's a crappy situation but.....no.  Then they say they'd like to do, but it's against their policy so.....no.

I ask why I should have to pay $40 extra for a replacement to the item that never got to me, and he says "I'll look into it and email you" and then hangs up on me.

they are good with returns, just order it and return the more expensive one.

If anyone is going to pay for music, they might as well get Google play & ditch the YouTube commercials with YouTube red.

I have been building a playlist to stream from Amazon Prime over the last month. So far the only songs I have not been able to do it with has been AC/DC songs. My general list is about 200 songs long. I use it for doing stuff in/around the house. Use my phone to stream it into one of those bluetooth speaker deals and enjoy a customized playlist for free. No a penny more needed.

Amazon promotion for Amazon Cash: Deposit $20 using barcode from below link (via iPhone Wallet or printed barcode) at CVS, etc. locations listed in link and get a $10 promotional credit for products sold and shipped by Amazon. Noted in a Slickdeals thread that a CC can be used to pay for the $20, which seems like a ***** in the armor but I'm down with it.

Link

Hangs with their promotion of discounted Prime for those on SNAP assistance,  Amazon going for more cash basis sales. This promo can be taken by anyone with an Amazon account, though.

The Red Pill - still don't know what the hell I watched, but interesting.   Didn't know I was so worthless and oppressed.

Exactly.  Amazon fills any void.  Curious if places like Wegmans will soon go the way of Borders/Barnes&Noble.
Probably not. For most people it will always be easier to buzz down to the grocery store if something is needed quick, or a small amount. For the foreseeable future it will take a while or a large amount to get stuff delivered.

I imagine the Whole Foods distribution system maps well with where Amazon is focusing on getting a foothold with Prime Pantry.

I hear that.  However, if I'm going to get Amazon prices, I'd rather place the order online and buzz down to the grocery store to pick it up.

Amazon Wardrobe - Coming Soon

Looks like they're applying the Zappos model to clothing altogether. While not a style consultant service like Trunk Club, etc. it's definitely taking aim there as well as at the last reason I go to the mall for anything, to try on clothing. :includedinprime:
