Amendola .... Setback? (1 Viewer)

Heard that Danny Amendola had a setback this week and could be gone for the season. Anyone have any updated information. I have been holding onto him for a projected week 6 return?

I read on Twitter this week that he is "considering surgery". Sorry I can't quote the author specifically. I follow a ton of NFL and FF folks on Twitter and the messages scroll off pretty quickly...

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this but I'll post anyway. A guy that I work with was at a wedding last weekend in Oklahoma where Amendola's GF was in the wedding party. Guys asked about his status and she said that he reinjured himself lifting and he's essentially looking for a surgeon and is done for the year. Just passing it along and do with it what you will...

great stuff...this is insider info. If anyone tears you apart for such info may the fantasy gods do their thing on them. Simply put, this is what makes the shark pool....i dont care if you dont have a link or a nfl source sharing it, this is one of those paragraphs you just want to make note of.....

This seems to be a pretty good article explaining the situation. He's expecting a second opinion today.

The Rams could be facing an extended period of time without wide receiver Danny Amendola.

Amendola has already missed three games after suffering a dislocated elbow and other damage around the elbow area in the season opener against Philadelphia.

At the time of the injury, surgery was one option, but "the decision," as coach Steve Spagnuolo said Monday, "was to try to gut it out. But I think we all knew that there was a chance this could happen. Because the brace does as much it can. He got it as strong as he could. Even the people that we spoke with, other doctors outside, said that when he is ready and he feels comfortable, let him go. And there's no way of telling how he's going to react. So here is where we're at, but we're remaining hopeful. We'll see what the other doctors say."

Amendola is having a second opinion Wednesday.

Last week in practice, Amendola did some individual drills on Wednesday and participated in some team segments Thursday. It was on Thursday that he aggravated the injury.

Explained Spagnuolo, "Even after he dinged it or felt he hurt it a little bit, he kept going. And he looked fine, but then it didn't feel right the next day. It swelled a little bit so this is what we're facing."

So which receiver (or TE) stands to benefit the most from Amendola being out indefinitely? I guess looking at targets since he has been out is a good place to start. Gibson's (8, 7, 1)have declined the last three weeks while Denario's (7, 8, 8)have been consistent. Denario plays a different role from Amendola though since he is more of a deep threat. Kendricks (4, 3, 9) is all over the place and seems his hands are inconsistent.

Any StL homer thoughts?

I'd still keep an eye out for news on Clayton. Nobody has picked up the WR1 role there and ran with it, so Clayton may get his shot off the PUP and never look back.

Adam Caplan of TheSidelineView.com reports that Danny Amendola will miss the rest of the 2011 season with a torn triceps muscle.

The Rams will continue to mix and match at receiver. Amendola went for a second opinion on his elbow/triceps injury Wednesday, and it apparently confirmed the muscle tear. Caplan doesn't know whether Amendola will require surgery, but it's probably a good bet that he will. Rookie Austin Pettis has been working as St. Louis' slot receiver for the past two games, managing six catches for 40 yards. Fellow rookie Greg Salas was tried in the role Weeks 1-2, but flopped badly and has since been deactivated on game days. Oct 5 - 2:33 PM
