***American Idol Season 13*** (1 Viewer)

First time watching all season tonight. That Alex kid is talented, but I hated, hated, hated that arrangement. Took an amazing vocal melody and made it completely unrecognizable. J Lo (surprisingly) was spot on. The girls are all good, but no it factor. Sam has the look of a throwback teen idol, but the shy reserved thing isn't working for me. Caleb is awesome. Sure, he's a (not so) Mini-Meatloaf, but the kid has chops.

Alex was dreadful last night. Taking an iconic song and making it virtually un-recognizalbe was a huge mistake. I understand he was trying to make it his own…..but it was a huge fail.

He will still be around for the final 2.

Caleb was again….great. Shaky start and then he was himself. I hate the fact the song has to be so condensed because Faithfully is a so but amazing build. Tough arrangement to deal with going soft to all out arena so quickly.

CJ was great. He is real, soulful and from the heart and he has the connection….more than any other contestant and that is why I have always stuck by this kid. He comes from nothing and his voice tells you that every time. He is not a great singer……but neither is Bruce Springsteen and many other great artists in rock history.

This is Caleb's show to lose vs Alex in the finals.

And other than CJ the rest can just stop now. I don't like any one else.

And Sam still sucks.
Different strokes I guess, I thought he did really well tonight and think he's pretty good. Crazy how all the people in music industry are constantly saying how talented he is. He just looks so uncomfortable, even when he's trying to force it.
And that's my issue with him. He sings OK but as a performer he sucks. No stage presence.
I think my wife it on the head when it comes to Sam. She thinks he's gay and either doesn't really know it yet or is hiding it. It's uncomfortable to watch how uncomfortable he is around the girls. I mean he can't even look them in the eye. And when he tries to, his eyes show no emotion. ETA:

For a 16 yo kid that's been playing and singing as long as he has, he should be use to the ladies by now. I played music at my church as a teen. And even in that setting, you wouldn't believe the attention you'd get from teenage girls (:coughandtheoccasionalgrownwomancough:). I soaked it all in and used it to my advantage. Now multiple that x1,000,000, and that's what Sam is dealing with.

It's possible he's simply ashamed of the disgusting thoughts that run through his head when he's surrounded by all that tenderoni. He probably can't decide which one he would nail first. Gay? Nah, he's gotten more poon than all of us combined. He's definitely banged Jena, Malaya and Jessica.

After watching Alex's performance and hearing the judges' criticisms, I'm convinced they have an agenda. At any rate though, I think Caleb wins the whole thing.
I agree with this. Alex was tremendous tonight.
Thought it was good...but a little odd and fast at times.

Sam sang well...probably one of the best he has sounded IMO. Still boring though and he can't do much other than stripped down versions of songs. Everything else is too big for him.

Malaya has got to go...it was nasally and awful the entire time.

Jessica was bad as well. Talk about uncomfortable on stage...off.

CJ was interesting...started out bad but picked up and got better. Just don't care much for him at this point.

Dexter was pretty meh...not shocked if he gets the boot soon if the country vote can't hold him.

Jena was ok...it was odd but I think she has something there that will hit huge.

Caleb was really good.

I agree with CJ being soulful...its the part of him I do like. Just can't put my finger on what is so off putting about him lately.

But he definitely fits what they said about him early on...he sings because he has to. He can convey the message and emotion and pain of some songs which is really good.

If Sam could have that connection to anything he would easily win this.

Yeah, I didn't like the way Jessica sang her song at all.

Malaya was terrible and Dexter sucks. I hope these two are the next to go.

Harry is the biggest attention wh*re I've seen in a long, long time.

Yeah, Harry having the little girl on his shoulders...my wife assumed it was his daughter and said if it wasn't, it's definitely weird. Then he went back to his chair with the girl still up there, and it was clear it was not his daughter. Then she started to look uncomfortable with it, like a hostage.

Also J. Lo getting all moony eyed like she's going to cry during some of the songs, and the camera lingering with that close-up on her face...stop it, just ####### stop please.

My finger goes to CJ being consistently and distractingly out of tune. Otherwise, totally agree- good tone and amazing exposed nerve singing-wise. Put him in key and he's got something that the rest of them don't.

That Sam kid sounded great last night... but if getting saved on national TV only prompts a minimal emotional response in you then there's some bizarre personality defect happening. Or he's just a really, really, really blank kid. If he can't get excited about something like that, how is he going to bring emotion to his singing?

I like the Alex kid, but agree that he took a bit too much liberty with the song, swallowing a lot of words too. I still liked the performance.

Caleb is what he is. You either like the one trick (which is always in tune and belting) or you don't. I like it, but I get bored by it pretty fast. I need him to do more than slow a song down- I need him to change up the dynamics and his delivery a bit.

I didn't hear Jena-Gina-Geenah. How was she? There's somethign in her tone... kind of marbley mouthed I think... that doesn't work for me. But I like her more than the others who I haven't named.

The rest of them

There's no way Sam has sexed any of those contestants. If he had, he wouldn't be so lacking in confidence and awkward.

1. Caleb

2. Alex

3. Jena

and it doesn't matter after that. CJ hasn't sang a note in tune the entire competition, Sam & Jessica are painfully awkward, and Dexter & Malaya are caricatures of their respective genres.

Judges/producers played their cards by saving Sam.

The pawns will fall....Malaya, Jessica, Dexter,

then Sam

then Gina

then CJ

Final 2 Alex & Caleb

Winner Alex

I'm so sick of these kids changing iconic congas just because. It doesn't "make it your own" to screw up a song just because you don't understand it. Changing the melody of Time After Time or Every Breath You Take is just such a monumental screw up. As was changing I Love Rock 'n Roll, in the way that Jena did.

I figure Sam has 2 weeks to figure out a way to connect with the 25 + crowd. I dunno if it's stage freight, "connectability" or whatever Harry is saying, or just his age, but he could go out there and hum off key for 90 seconds and still get his under 25 votes.

Harry keeps telling him to make eye contact with some of the audience members, will that resonate with the 25+ crowd watching at home? That's who he needs to connect with.

Check out this A Capella version of Hey Jude.

The kid has such a good sound. With Dexter somehow picking up steam, I'd guess the bottom 2 are Sam/CJ this week, and whichever survives goes home next week, unless Sam can figure out how to tap into the older voters.

Jena.

Nuff said.

ETA: Not just based on tonight, but tonight cemented it.

Jena was the best of the night.

My top three are in no particular order: .

1. Alex

2. Jena

3. Caleb

These three have been my top three since the begining

I am finally warming up to Alex. Dude has a great voice and plays good guitar too. His awkward face had been hard to get over (always looks like someone smashed just one side of his face with a frying pan) but getting past that he's talented. Was great tonight. Hands down a Caleb Jena finale though. Alex could place third.

Thought Jessica and Dexter were the worst by far.

I wasn't as impressed by Jena tonight and thought the Jena/Caleb duet was terrible. And I liked Alex/Sams duet.

My top two from tonight were Sam and Alex, thought they both killed it.

Am I the only one that thinks Jena gained 10lbs from last week, and it's all in her face?

Once again, I thought Sam was by far the worst. He has no business in this competition. Just horrible.

I'm starting to think Alex could win. I've always liked him bit thought he had no shot...now I can see him pulling it off.

Thought Caleb gave his best performance this week, and liked Jena although it wasn't her best.

Gimme Shelter is my favorite RS song and that was painful. I still like think they are the strongest contenders.

I didn't notice the face, but it could be an illlusion because her hair was straight against her face. Usually has more volume with the curls to balance the face.

I'm also throwing my support behind Jena. I don't like all the weird hiccups and things she tries to do, but I like her voice and performances the best.

I'll put Alex at #2 overall. I don't really get him, but some of his stuff is pretty good.

Sorry, but I'm sick of Caleb in every way possible. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but the way he comes across is annoying.

I like CJ a lot but he just doesn't seem to have enough backing. And I really don't think he's sharp all the time.

I thought Sam was really good last night, even though he's not good enough to win.

I'm pretty sure Harry realizes that Dexter is nothing more than a karaoke country singer, so I'm not sure why he bothers to keep pointing it out.

I still like Jessica, even thought last night wasn't her best.

As a side note, maybe someone who plays an instrument can answer something for me. I've been watching this show for years, and every time someone plays a guitar onstage, I can't hear it. If they are playing it or they stop playing it, it all sounds the same to me (Dexter did this quite a bit last night). Are they really playing? Or do they just get drowned out by the rest of the band? I really don't get it.

My personal rankings:

Jena

Alex

Jessica

CJ

Caleb

Sam

Dexter

Dexter went home. I'm not surprised. Before the show started my bottom three were Dexter, Jessica, and Sam. I figured one of those three would go home.

While I'll watch this if there's nothing of interest on, I don't care for AI. The Voice is mucho better with those judges and how the show is done.

Glad Dexter's gone. I can't believe he left his dogs for months to sing that honky-tonk schmaltzy crap. I hope they shun him when he gets home.

You are from Georgia and don't appreciate country music (granted he did sing a lot of pop country)? How have YOU not been shunned or exiled?

Watching now....Jenas Barracuda was good....Alex's Neon Trees was his worst of the season...just not in his wheelhouse. Caleb just CRUSHED Sting Me.

That's as far as I am in the show so far.

Jessica picked a perfect song (Somebody to Love)or her voice/style and delivered. One of her best yet.

Sam - he did better than he usually does vocally...just no presence or passion.

Sam's Shania song was horrible. So sleepy.
I'm a big fan of Sam, but that was one of the worst I've heard from him. I thought he did really well this first song and terrible the last.

Alex was pretty meh last night overall. Agree with Wingut, that first song was just not good. Fortunately for him CJ did pretty bad last night as well.

I think Jessica is so overrated, I get bored when she's on.

Caleb's "Country" song was just another rock song. What's the point of these themes again? Just let them sing what they want, not like Caleb would be doing a country album anyhow. If they bore the audience by choosing the same song over and over that's on them and the coaches.

Bottom two from last night, imo, CJ and Jessica, with CJ going home.

Sorry, but Alex was terrrrrrible with that Willie Nelson song. I don't care what anyone says.

CJ's first song was good, but second song was awful.

I like Jena but I really, really hate all the things she tries to do with her voice. It's like she just makes things up that completely don't go with the song.

If Sam wasn't on the show, all those girls wouldn't pay one bit of attention to him.

I liked both Jessica's songs.

Caleb won the night.

That was awful...I was shocked the judges liked it. Terrible. Caleb deserved more criticism on that second song as that wasn't country at all. He had a perfect opportunity to show song versatility and he just did the same thing he always does. His 1st song was great but if he would've gone out of the box he could have owned last night.

The judges have an agenda- ratings.

Sam is terrible and his stupid ### smile makes my skin crawl.

Urban called Caleb out on his "country" song and they glossed over it.

Jena is great but I agree, she's acting a little full of herself.

Alex was not good.

CJ was terrible (as usual)

Caleb is clearly the star. Clearly. Sting Me was sick…..just sick.

Jena stinks….period. Full of herself, and her voie is really really annoying and to me…..phony.

Alex was meh the other night….really meh. But it should be Alex and Caleb in the finals. Kid is really talented.

Jessica……stinks. Go back to playing bars.

CJ had the real emotional connection. Not a great singer….but he was real. Sad to see him go.

I just can't stand Jena. Annoying and just….blech. No star power at all.

Sam…….really?

It's starting to look like I'm in the minority here but I like Jena. I liked her since the begining and I thought she was the best female artist this season.

I still think it comes down to Caleb, Jena, and Alex as the top three with the darkhorse being Sam just because if the girl vote maybe beating out Alex for the top three.
