America's Got Talent (1 Viewer)

Maude

Footballguy
Starts tonight. DVR is set.

It's at least intriguing to see how it goes. Stern, while always the biggest self-promotor, has been giddy about it on his radio show for the past several months. Anyone else planning to watch?

Don't get the Stern move

What they gain in Stern fans, they will lose from the "family" crowd.

I don't see that happening. It's not like the talent will be strippers testing out vibrators or something.
If Howard's act on here is going to be PG, then having him on loses some appeal. If he goes PG-13, he could alienate some of the core audience

I disagree. I am a Stern fan and this will be the first time I ever watch the show. Stern has not and will not turn it into the Howard Stern Show. He knows what he is doing and there have been more then enough people who have changed their minds about him already. But who knows for sure. It will definitely be an interesting thing to watch. I think it was a great idea either way because people will be watching "to see what he says next"

Lets see what those people say when he goes onstage to cheer up a 7 year old that he pressed his X for. He feels bad for the kid and puts him on to Vegas. If people like the show, I dont see how having Howard on changes that especially after he gets good reviews. But you are right in that some people wont ever change their mind no matter what

Will his fans maintain interested if his schtick stays at the G/PG level?

I think so but I can't speak for the millions of stern fans.

When heard a radio commercial yesterday that Howard was going to be on the show, this is the first Howard I thought of. :bag:

I think he'll be pg but he'll be fine telling people who suck that they suck. Kind of like simon on AI.
And he wont hesitate to ask women to bare their boobs.
I don't want to be the guy who plays the Stern defender but please tell me how many times this happens. It won't happen because he knows how to play the game. It rarely even happens on his show anymore. If you dot like him, that is fine but this post is silly IMO

Nah. He'll win them over. It will be really entertaining to see the house fraus suddenly falling in love with Howard.

Agreed.Howard is a smart dude. Even those who don't like him will tune in to see what happens. Some will not return, but I would be willing to bet that many will be pleasantly surprised by his honesty and his charm. And one other thing that most people do not know about Howard is how hard-working he is and motivated to do well and succeed. He takes this gig very seriously, and he truly wants the show to do well.

+1 Stern fan watching for the first time.

I predict that I'll only watch this for a short time not because of Howard, but because the premise of the show is stupid (to me and I realize I'm in the minority).

I do think Howard will be reasonably successful in this role. He's a great entertainer, is generally good at sniffing at out talent and he tells it like it is. He's at his best when he's not talking strippers or dooty and I don't think the family format will be a problem.

They pass this off as a talent show but it always boils down to a singing competition.

I'm not a viewer, but I'm glad they finally have an American as a judge now. Having 2 Brits and a Canadian judging American performers is pretty stupid.

I don't think that you understand much about Howard Stern.

Wow - Howard is laying it on really heavy. Making sure he is likeable to middle America. This is making me uncomfortable.
I kindof thought the same thing... although when he told the first dude he had a small package, I :lmao:All-in-all, I thought it was at least more entertaining than when Piers (sp) Morgan was a judge.

I love Howard but this is reminding me why I never watched in the first place. So over-produced.
I had never watched the show before, so good work producers, but yes, the way it is produced is really annoying. I can't even understand what is happening half of the time. Cut, cut, cut away, cut, screaming woman, cut, cut, new act, cut, cut, OZZY OSBOURNE (what?), cut, cut, chatter, cut, cut.Agree that earth harp was pretty cool.Only watched the first hour and thought that Stern was good in his role, though not thrilling. I did like when he that singer said that his parents were dead and Stern asked if they had died of embarrassment.

It's unreal. I mentioned this to my wife at least 5 times last night. :30 second shot of the act, followed by heavily-edited critique from the judges - quick cut to Nick Cannon backstage talking about something - start inexplicably playing "Nine to Five" by Dolly Parton in the background - cut back to the judges hamming it up for about four seconds - now cut to the parking lot where Howard is talking about the overall talent - turn up "Nine to Five" even louder - cut to the deliberation room, show 400 bottles of Snapple positioned just so - now flash the "Battleship" ad at the bottom of the screen - now cut to a quick "Coming up" bit - now out to commercial.

It's the Las Vegas Strip of programming - complete sensory overload. I had to laugh when I thought about people complaining about product placement during "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" because they were sitting in a bar drinking Coors Light and had a Coors Light neon sign in the background rather than "Beer" brand beer. This was preposterous. I was waiting for a chick in a bikini holding a giant Snapple sign to just walk in front of the judges as they were talking to one of the acts.

How the mighty have fallen. I'm surprised how irrelevant Stern has become.
If a radio show with several million listeners and a prime-time TV program that draws 10 million+ viewers is irrelevance, you have very high standards. I don't care if you like Stern or hate him, but 99% of the broadcasting world would aspire to that level of irrelevance.

I agree. I've always liked the concept of the show, but the show itself is becoming unwatchable. I won't even bother unless I have it on DVR and can just skip to the acts.

The father/son team with the dogs was one of the most amazing animal shows I've ever seen. Don't have a link. Dogs are literally walking across the stage on their hind legs and skipping rope. The dogs even formed a conga line. It's a must see. Bravo.

Ugh...another damn light show in the dark act...great...can't wait to watch them all damn season long.

And I feel for those watching this show live...you have to DVR it and get past all the production and fluff. It's the only way to watch these types of shows.

I was so absorbed in Civilization V that I left this show on in the background over the weekend. Wasn't bad, I liked Stern, but I can definitely see how the over-producing would grate over time. Probably won't watch again.

love Howard and thought he would be good.

But it only took 30 minutes for me to remember why I don't watch these shows. The overproducing and cheesey crowd shots are painful. I won't even DVR it to fast forward.

They put through a lot of ####ty acts.
Who wouldn't want to go see a two-hour Vegas show of a guy getting smashed in the balls?
And they put through a horrible white rapper last week. I mean the dude sucked so bad and they all loved him. I dont get it. I might give the show another chance when they eliminate people in vegas. But its pretty bad so far. Howard needs to be meaner to the fakes and hacks.

Yeah. I hate rap as much as the next guy, but I guess I can appreciate it as a 'talent'. However, when that guy said "It was 100% off the cuff", I'd have cut him right then and there... complete and utter lie.
