And Now a Word About Cris Collingsworth (1 Viewer)

Didn't know the rules, clearly was biased and went against official decisions after the fact. Was wrong on everything.
But he did pimp the halftime show after it was over and did place it over the game itself in terms of excitement.  I'm sure the NFL wants its broadcast partner Pimping Justine Timberlake over the game itself.

Well, the crazy thing about all these Eagles fans is that they're obsessing over Collinsworth despite having won their first-ever SB.
Eagles fans are the most unfairly maligned fans in all of sports. It's reached the height of absurdity now, like a parody of itself. It's an easy narrative to run with if you're not familiar with the city and the people, but the fans are understandably irritated by it. Collinsworth is just the latest perpetrator of the endless disrespect they've endured, and of course they aren't going to keep quiet about it. And he was objectively wrong and made a fool of himself, so it's not not like any of this isn't justified. But if you think any of this overshadows Sunday's win in any way, you couldn't be more wrong.

What I hate, is he is an owner of Pro Football Focus, and for a while he was shilling that on the broadcasts and making that a part of the coverage and making them look like the end all and be all for football analysis. I'm glad they knocked that off.

Like he is not making enough $ working a few days a week he has to sell us his other business during the broadcast?

Most of these turkeys get such a big ego, it's all bout them and their clever turns of phrase (Look at me I'm so clever) vs the game.

As as for a PATs bias...that's the whole media complex. They all seem to practically kneel and kiss the ring whenever Brady, BB, or Craft are in the conversation.

After re-watching last night, the most striking thing to me was as someone else mentioned, they literally had nothing to say when the game was over and the Eagles won. There is a TON of dead air. You can practically see the lackeys in the booth rushing to put some talking points in front of Al and Chris.

Chris also doesn't say a word for like a full minute after the game ended. Assuming he was throwing chairs and ripping up his bet receipts at the time.

OK, first of all, I have lived in Philly (after growing up an hour away) and am very familiar with "the city and the people". But I never said (nor thought) that this overshadows anything. I said I myself didn't care about announcers, and if my team ever won the Super Bowl I wouldn't be complaining about them. I didn't make any sweeping statements about Philly or its fans.

It sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder about your home city. My advice is to forget about that and just bask in your victory. Eagles look like they're prepared to be good for a long time. If you're lucky you'll end up like Boston fans, who 20 years ago had a massive inferiority complex and are now a bunch of arrogant pr#cks.  :P

I interpret it as the receiver bearing up his full body weight.  Dez never stopped his momentum to the ground, he elongated it by his steps, but he was never under balance, supporting his weight.  Ertz had support of his weight and then redirected his path a bit around a tackler who then caused impetus towards the ground.

None of this, of course, excuses Collinsworth from  being a color commentator on the game and instead becoming an E network correspondent or a TMZ correspondent. If he wants to gush about Timberlake take a different job.  There was a damn good game going on.
Since when is a single line delivered in a dead pan voice "gushing"?

C'mon guys... if he had said Bill Belichek was wearing a nice sweatshirt in the same voice/tone, it would have had the same relevance to the game, and yet not have caused any of the brouhaha in this thread.

I am not a Timberlake/pop fan, but I think it would have been more odd for a color commentator not to say anything about the performance.  The half time show is now a major part of the superbowl event... (its not just "Up with People" every year any more).  Using the Jessica Alba metaphor... CC did not only comment on the satin sheets... but included a comment about the sheets within about 200 comments about the event.

The JT show was nearly ten minutes of unbroken fireworks.

Tell me... if CC had said (in deadpan voice) the game was almost as exciting as the grand finale of a fireworks show... would everyone still be all hot and bothered?

When I see AL and CHRIS in the booth at always feels like it's two guys chatting and trying to be the funniest guy in the room, and there just happens to be a game in the background. I usually find if I mute the game I enjoy it much more.

I'm 100% sure that some producer was in his ear asking him to comment on the halftime show. I'm sure like 99% of the straight males in the audience, he could not give a rip about Timberlake, but since he is a corporate shill he has to say somethings. Like all those B.S. comments they have to make like "tonight at 8PM tune in and watch I.P. Freely, where the water will flow",. Do you REALLY think he cares about that crap. He gets paid to be a Shill.

Join with me and join the MUTE movement. If you understand the game, who needs the bad commentary?

He was driving me nuts on the Ertz TD! like he didnt know that ertz was a runner and all this was it a catch or no BS, as they watch the replay over and over and you see him secure it, and turn up field, take 2 steps and jump towards the EZ (the whole time debating if it was a catch) and then showing him cross the line, with the ball out stretched, clearly a TD, then debating if it was a fumble....what?
1. I can't believe you guys listened to him THAT much.  After he or anyone else rattles about the same thing 3-4 straight times, I'm up and grabbing food or something.

2. In his defense, I think you HAVE to play the angle of "was it a catch" because A) you have to talk about something for the 5 minutes it takes them to sort it out and B) it IS the hangdog issue in these games. You can't just categorically and confidently say anything about these things one way or the other because as soon as you do, you get burned in today's NFL because they have the ridiculous calls just about every week that the majority simply doesn't agree with.

When McGarnicle is defending us, you know it's gotten bad.

To clarify, it would have been a story regardless, but to this day, I think the whole "Seahawks throwing it from the 1 instead of running it" thing blew up so quickly because of the conniption fit Collinsworth immediately had on air about it.

I actually wouldn't mind that if I had given a crap at the time. I was jumping up and down screaming for joy.
