Andre Johnson Injury Updates (1 Viewer)

After today's news, I traded him and Best for CJ2k in a league where I've had three straight losses since AJ and Britt went down. I think he bye week is a very real possibility for both AJ and Best and I need at least a chance at winning. But if a team can hold out on AJ for four more weeks if necessary, obviously that's the better call.

LOL, wow i love the instant panic...Remember the Colston injury was suppose to be 6 weeks, but he was back to full swing in 3.

They originally thought this was a season ender, and he is already running. For sure it is week, or else he would of played last week, and no one really expected him back this week...except for the people who need him.

I like hearing from the horses mouth, but you cant really see how he said it in the context that was given.
I agree. The "six weeks" part of that news is scary, but when you read it as "six weeks at most" it's really not any different from the timetables we've heard previously. In other words, it won't take longer than six weeks to heal, but likely will be less than that.
It's the first news I've heard of an actual time table that was given. Until now I've only heard what sounded like overly optimistic reports from the team that really seemed to downplay the whole thing. This is the first somewhat negative sounding report I've heard so far. Doesn't necessarily mean anything has changed with them hoping to target a week 8 return, but it's not very encouraging.

The best sources are doctors either working on AJ or familiar with the injury and recovery process. Kubiak and AJ are either working smoke and mirrors or are likely to be excessively optimistic. There is nothing that would give me reason to think this will not be a 6-week injury. If I had AJ in a redraft, I'd be selling unless my team was strong enough to make the playoffs without him.

:goodposting: I was shopping him to other teams in my same position (4-2 or better), and no one seems interested. His value right now is low, but one week after he is back, his value will be thru the roof. I say hold, as the Texans will be trying for a playoff spot, and they will need him.

The "six weeks" isn't the scary part it's AJ's quote, "I'm headed in the right direction. I just want it to heal faster. Right now it's still weak; it's not as strong as it used to be." As long as it's weak, he's not going to play and there's really no way of knowing how long it will take to strengthen. I may be over-analyzing but the quote seems to scream frustration which isn't a good sign.

Andre Johnson - WR - Texans

Andre Johnson (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday, but was able to run routes and catch passes off to the side.

The Texans' Week 7 plan appears to involve Johnson returning to limited practice reps later in the week. He would sit out one more game and return in Week 8 (in an ideal scenario). "There’s still progress to be made," acknowledged coach Gary Kubiak. "Maybe he gets on the field and practices before the week’s out. I don’t know right now. But he continues to progress."

He is running routes and catching passes, if thats not good news, I dont know what is.Everyone predicted week 8, and he looks on track. No one who was serious thought he would return this week.

I traded him for Stafford in a keeper league 2 weeks ago. Get to keep Stafford for a 7th rounder next year, AJ was my 1st rounder.

I thought the injury looked pretty bad to begin with and with the past research on AJ/Kubiak not being fully truthful about injury news decided to sell.

I got rid of Schaub as well. My WR depth was good as well with Maclin, Roddy, AJ Green in a 12 team .5 ppr.

Thanks to the Shark Pool for the always updated information!

Dear ESPN,

Please stop changing Andre Johnson's status from "Out" to "Doubtful" every Tuesday when its clear he wont play this week.

Sincerely,

Native

Somebody offered me Andre and felix jones for miles austin and hillis. I initially said no. Its not a lock he is back week 8 it seems and they still have a bye. Am i crazy to turn this down??

That would be highway robbery for the other guy IMO. Assuming he's the one offering AJ and Jones.

Any updates with this guy?

Curious to see if anyone is trading FOR him, or if everyone is leery on how he'll perform when he gets back.

FWIW(from Rotoworld):
At his Monday press conference, Texans coach Gary Kubiak said there's "definitely a possibility" that Andre Johnson will return from his surgically repaired hamstring to play in Week 8.Johnson is expected to practice this week "at some point" after running routes at full speed late last week. "Andre had a really good day of work today," added Kubiak. A Wednesday return to the practice field would bode particularly well. The Texans will square off with the Jaguars in Week 8.
For the sake of my team I really hope he comes back this week. I can't imagine many owners will be anxious to trade now that he seems closer to returning but I guess you never know for sure.

TEXANS WR JOHNSON TO PRACTICE WEDNESDAY

October 26 - SportsDirect Inc.Houston Texans star wide receiver Andre Johnson will practice Wednesday, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

According to the report, Texans coach Gary Kubiak said Johnson has a chance to play vs. Jacksonville on Sunday. Johnson has missed Houston's last three games with a hamstring injury suffered Oct. 2 vs. Pittsburgh.

On Tuesday, the Texans waived Trindon Holliday, who had taken over returning kicks as regular return man Jacoby Jones was used exclusively as a receiver. That move could be a sign that Johnson may be ready to return.

Johnson has 25 catches for 352 yards and two TDS in four games this season. He has three straight seasons of at least 1,200 receiving yards.

Per @NickScurfield

Texan WR Andre Johnson retured to practice today. Kubiak said he went the whole practice and called it a "huge step."

Per @HoustonTexans

Kubiak: Andre looked good running. Kubiak says he'll listen to Andre and he wants to make sure the do the right thing w/him.

Per @McClain_on_NFL

Andre and Casey participated in every drill in practice. AJ still day to da, Kubiak says.

After watching what Jax did to Bal one of two things are going to happen. AJ will have bad day and might even get hurt again with all the physical play. Or he will beat them silly for jamming him for 9-220-3. ......

He's never had a 3 touchdown game in his career and I doubt this will be his first but I'll take 9-220-2.

Andre Johnson: "If I feel the way I feel today, I probably won’t play Sunday. But, you know, today is not Sunday."

:lmao: That icon sums up my feelings as well. I don't even know why I put myself through the emotional roller coaster of checking this thread daily. I should just check on Friday and if he plays, he plays.
The fact he isn't in the condition to play today makes me think it's less than 50% he plays. Sooooooooooooooooo lame.

Anyone else think this kind of back and forth (might play, might not play) is going to go on for the next two weeks...followed by sitting week 10 as well just to get extra rest with the Texans bye on week 11?

You're not alone. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't come back until week 12.

Here's the report from RotoWorld:

Andre Johnson wasn't nearly as optimistic as Texans coach Gary Kubiak when discussing the health of his surgically repaired hamstring Wednesday.

Johnson revealed that he felt "tugging" in the leg when he was trying to run at full speed, indicating that the hamstring isn't healed. "I wouldn't say I felt great (today)," Johnson said. "I didn't feel how I expected I would feel. ... If I feel the way I feel today, I probably won't play Sunday. But, you know, today is not Sunday." The Texans face the Jaguars in Week 8.

Andre Johnson took a step forward in trying to return from hamstring injury. Limited practice Wednesday, but he's on target for Sunday.

I dislike Clayton a lot. The guy always passes on old news and ignores the new stuff.

I'm feeling that way. If I was the Texans, looking the reality of my situation coming off a win against the Titans and what amounts to a two game lead on the division with JAC, CLE and TAM prior to the bye - I'm not feeling motivated to push AJ's return. Let's face it, they're not going to be taxed to win this division with Indy out of the way. My guess is that if Johnson feels good he sees 30-40% snaps @ the Bucs to get his legs back, week 11 bye and then he's ready to roll.

Is it bad form to trade AJ in a dynasty league if you know you won't be playing next year but your league-mates don't?

If it's a trade that you wouldn't make if you were going to be running the team in the future, then yes, it's very bad form.

Not if JAC beats HOU this weekend. JAC will be one game back plus a better division record plus beat them head to head. This game is VERY important for HOU who can almost shore up the division if they beat JAC this weekend.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the Texans believe they'll know Thursday whether Andre Johnson (hamstring) will be able to play in Week 8 against the Jaguars.

Johnson didn't feel good immediately after Wednesday's practice, so the Texans want to see how his body responds 24 hours later. At this point, Johnson looks no better than 50:50 to play in Week 8. A rigorous Thursday practice would be a big step in the right direction. If he sits out practice entirely, it would bode quite poorly.

No. It still doesn't matter. I get what you're saying and, while you're correct that J-Ville will only be a game back on paper with a win, they're still no threat to Houston. The Jags are 2-5 for a reason, they're a bad football team. Gabbert hasn't completed 60% of his passes in any of his five starts and completed fewer than 50% in three of five. This game is so very NOT important to Houston in the grand scheme.

Houston falls apart every year. Every game is big for them - they've never made the playoffs and Kubiak is gone if they don't this year. Houston is capable of losing to anyone. If Andre is healthy he plays. If he's not he doesn't. I think he needs another week, and will be back next week.I don't get this speculation that teams hold out players because a certain game doesn't seem to be as important as other games??

We might say that J-Ville stinks, but if the coach for my team ever took a divisional opponent lightly I'd have him strung up. It's not even just about the opponent itself but tie-breaking scenarios which take into account divisional record. While J-Ville may not be much to write home about, TEN has proven to be no slouch even though they are slumping. So that fact in and of itself makes this a more important than normal game. That said, if Andre still feels his hamstring tugging come Sunday, he won't play. Simple as that.

This is a team that just lost to the raiders at home. I think it's safe to say that they aren't taking this game for granted after that, and watching the Jags beat the Ravens on MNF. If AJ can play without risking further injury he'll play. And that's all anyone who owns him really wants anyway.

I'm having flashbacks to 2007. I figured people would have picked up on this with the Foster hamstring issues, but you can't trust anything Houston says about injuries during the week. Check in Sunday morning to see if AJ is going to play or not.

Coach Gary Kubiak indicated after Thursday's practice that Andre Johnson (hamstring) will be a game-time decision for Sunday's tilt against the Jaguars.

Kubiak continues to be on the optimistic side. "He was better today. He told us that he felt better," said Kubiak. "He had his normal day of practice ... We took another step forward." With Thursday's step in the right direction, we now suspect Johnson will play barring a Friday setback. Since Tuesday, Johnson has jumped 10 spots to No. 4 among fantasy receivers in Rotoworld's Week 8 rankings.

Andre Johnson (hamstring) was less optimistic than coach Gary Kubiak after practice for a second straight day."I felt a lot better in practice," said Johnson, "but not where I want to be." Johnson still feels some "tugging" in the back of his leg, but the good news is that he pushed himself harder by doing one-on-one drills with cornerbacks Thursday. Asked if he would play Sunday, Johnson replied, "I'm not sure yet. We're just taking it day by day." Kubiak has deemed his star receiver a game-time decision.

I really doubt he plays. I'm guessing Kubiak is just playing mind games.

AJ owner... reading the tea leaves between Kubiak and Johnson is enough to give me a headache.

Although I have an important division foe this week and have every motivation to want Johnson in my lineup, I'm beginning to hope he sits out this week to give his hamstring an additional week to heal and reduce the risk of re-injury. I'd rather be without him one more week than have him gimpy going into the fantasy playoffs.

Guess we'll ultimately find out when the inactives are announced Sunday morning...
