Andrew Luck..... Love fest inside.... (5 Viewers)

You’re kinda proving my point. Indy had been saying he’s “about to start throwing” every month or two for the last couple years.

Now suddenly he goes from “unable to throw” to “maintaining level of play”?

Forgive me if I take practice reps in a Red Jersey at 50% game speed with a grain of salt before claiming he’s maintained his “level of play” ;)

And to be clear, I’ve agree wholeheartedly his price will continue to rise heading into Draft season. He’s unlikely to experience setbacks in a non-game speed red-jersey environment. He will begin to face more significant tests in the next couple weeks. Then we’ll start narrowing down some of the risk factors.
He was about to start throwing, and now he is throwing. I thought the proof was in the pudding?

As far as his level of play, I'm just going off of training camp reports. I trust not much as changed since his shoulder healed based off of them. You'll take them with a grain of salt, so go ahead. But he didn't all of the sudden turn into Sam Bradford in the last year. I have heard the argument his arm strength might not return, or his arm is not fully healed, ect. I don't buy it, but I'm not an MD. Maybe some input from one of the doctors on these boards would help.

Starting to get excited about the value picks of TY Hilton & Luck. The closer we get to the season the higher they’ll likely climb on draft boards, but I’d rather take the risk with Hilton than several of the WRs who’s ADP is currently higher.

We’ll see how they look in preseason, but I’m hopeful they’ll show us some good things.

I have already seen his ADP starting to take off in best ball leagues. His value is about to get incinerated.

Exactly.

You will be paying for 2014ish Luck or close to it by mid/late August. Some risk-happy homer is going to scarf him up as a top 5 QB in most drafts I’m guessing.

He’s going to need to put on a clinic in preseason to have me willing to pay anywhere near that, so he won’t be on my rosters.  I do hope he proves me wrong, though.

On ESPN radio... apparently a normal practice for a starting NFL QB would involve 90-100 game caliber throws.  Luck is on a 65-70 throw "pitch count".

Andrew Luck completed 6-of-9 passes for 64 yards in Thursday’s preseason opener versus the Seahawks.

Luck went 5-of-7 for 55 yards on the Colts' opening drive, even taking a hit at one point when scrambling for a first down on third-and-short. HC Frank Reich took a more vanilla approach with Indy's offensive scheme Thursday, but Luck ultimately looked his normal form in his first game action in 18 months. If Luck continues to look healthy without any setbacks, both he and T.Y. Hilton's ADP's are sure to skyrocket over the next three weeks.

New defense. Same story for Andrew Luck.

A perfect 8-for-8 start against the Ravens. 7 different receivers. Three tosses longer than 10 yards through the air.

drafting on or near the turn thinking of grabbing Luck and another QB in consecutive rounds.  His upside is well above his ADP still and can grab some immediate insurance at the QB spot which is more valuable than a RB4 or WR4 in my opinion.  looking at a Luck / Rivers combo with a solid 6 players you draft ahead of them should make for a great season even if Luck regresses.

Andrew Luck completed just 6-of-13 passes for 50 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception in the Colts' second preseason game against the Ravens on Monday.

It was big step back for Luck after he was 6-of-9 for 64 yards in his preseason debut last week. Luck threw a brutal red-zone interception on the Colts' first series this evening on a third-down pass he tried to force to Jack Doyle. He later gathered himself, completing a pair of third-down throws, but that drive fizzled out before Adam Vinatieri came on for a 57-yard field goal. Luck is now 12-of-22 for 114 yards, no touchdowns, and one pick this exhibition season.

Dynasty wise I am still holding and not selling yet...I have been offered Mahomes for him, but have the luxury of holding Luck with Watson starting.

he still han't thrown outside the numbers on deep routes in preseason game, Louis Riddick spoke at length about this last night during halftime. we dont' know if he's thrown deep, outside the numbers in practice ,either.. his passes look like lolipop bloopers..he kind of looks like Eli when we all figured out that he lost his fastball..I don't think he's the same guy he was and I dont think he'll ever get there again..he doesn't pass the eyeball test IMO..I wouldn't touch him

It’s only preseason. With his year away from the game, I would think the coaches are just trying to let him get comfortable, make some easy throws, not take many big hits. He also hasn’t really had Hilton to go to in these games. I’m not concerned. Luck is a gamer and has a brilliant mind for football. We all saw Brady stop going deep and start dinking and dunking, a smart qb can make that work. If the worst is true and Luck doesn’t have his deep ball any more, I see no reason he can’t try and follow in Brady’s footsteps

11th QB off the board in a ten team start 1 QB redraft draft last night.  Was the "first picked backup", at pick 91.

The challenge is, this perspective is quite reasonable but the contrary, skeptical position is quite reasonable as well. Were it not for the fact that a year ago this organization let everyone be "not concerned", I might be right there with you.

So it comes down to opportunity cost versus risk. If he's just knocking off rust and/or being conservative and/or playing possum, there's some opportunity here. Alternatively, if he's a QB with diminished physical abilities on an offence many have significant concerns about (an offence he was known to elevate significantly when healthy) you couldn't blame someone for moving to the next QB on the list.

How many leagues will Matt Ryan win you?

One thing that has struck me about Luck is how honest/up front he’s been about this entire ordeal and rehab.  He’s kind of laid his cards out on the table both in terms of his words and demeanor; past and present.

The read I get is that he really likes where he’s at.

We are 3 weeks or so from the start of the season and he is still not 100% after missing last year and then some.   He may really like where he is at but I sure as hell dont.  From a fantasy perspective no way I am rolling the dice on him.

Are you referring to a report about his health? Or just reacting to a couple bad series in exactly one pre-season game?

Neither. Some people want to see concrete evidence that he isn't limited. I'm not in camp but I watched Tuesday night and I didn't see him throwing without limitations. He may be fine but he hasn't demonstrated "fine".

Why are we saying he’s not 100%?  Has there been some news/chatter?

He’s been a full participant in practice save for pre-determined rest days.  Honestly, I feel like this has kind of turned into a non-issue.  Rust is a different story.

I certainly get the cautious approach to a guy coming off a career-threatening injury to the most important part of his trade.  Something to chew on though...

1) QB19 is Alex Smith.  QB20 is Dak Prescott.  We continue to talk about how QB is ridiculously deep this year (it was last year too).  When this is the case, I see a lot of owners simply going with one QB thinking they could grab someone off WW if necessary (happened with me last year, lost Rodgers, grabbed Goff).  So the exposure if you take a chance on Luck is actually fairly minimal.  And if you decide to grab a QB2 - there are solid options.

2) If Luck is right, he is QB9 right now.  He has upside to be QB2-3.  if he stays healthy, he sleep walks to QB9 status.

So you're either getting incredible value OR you expose yourself at a deep position where there are a lot of Plan B solutions available.

I like Alex Smith a lot this year.  Washingtons offense and Gruden in particular always seem to be fairly high scoring.  I think Smith is a bargain where he is and it allows me to disregard Luck.  He may be lights out again this year but damn thats a big IF in my opinion

Do what now?  We were 16th in yards per game and points per game last year.  Exactly average.  And now we have a new QB, and a RB literally off the street.  I'm not seeing the high scoring anywhere for the skins this year.

I mean in regards to fantasy, Cousins has had 3 good years and I think Smith can execute as well as Cousins

I mean...QB is deep.  But upside is upside, and Luck has Top 3-5 upside.  In his last 38 games, he accounted for 91 TD's (86 passing/5 rushing).

Does he come back to form, we'll see.  But buying low is the name of the game.  And sometimes buying low still means paying a decent price.

An analyst I've forgotten put it this way: Alex Smith does everything Kirk Cousins does but is far more mobile than Cousins.

I fully expect the Skins passing game to be markedly better with Smith at QB.
