Android apps (2 Viewers)

Is there a browser like Chrome for Android?I use the sprint browser and well I don't like it.When trying to go to certain websites with normally free content, it always directs me to pay sites.Anyone? :lmao:
It is taking you to the mobile site, you need to go into your settings and uncheck view mobile sites

I'm thinking this is probably a better place to ask this than starting a new thread:

I was thinking of getting a netbook, an ipad, or an android tablet for some pretty light duty stuff: browsing, some emails, and playing videos. Seems to me like the thing to do to get the most bang for the buck is wait until there is an android tablet with honeycomb. I was hoping to buy one by the end of this year, but I could wait a few months for 3.0. Agree/disagree?

Only happened twice yet I'm sick of not really having a choice whether to update the OS, then apps are not compatible and suddenly I have an app or two I didn't ask for in the section with built-in apps. Do they really think people are that stupid and just figure they missed those apps the first few months and it must have come with the phone? The city state thing from Verizon is what bugs me most. Really google...google...can't come up with such an app for free? and you think I'd pay for that? Doesn't the average american know alot of area codes that call his phone? And the amazon ones...ugh

What's that thing with the SD card? Rooting? I'm too nervous to mess with that but I'm pretty sure LG/Google put the SD card on my phone for a reason. Sure I have some idea but this feels like a partition and not like a memory card or flash drive. I thought it would be like the latter. Anyone have any SD card advice? or even just basic knowledge since most of my thoughts are assumed.

Any idea where that might be?I found an area yesterday and checked "desktop" but it still took me to mobile sites

Fake a call is awesome. Being able to set it to fake call you before you start a conversation or meeting or whatever is great.

My phone never stops ringing when the ex comes over.

And no i never had a star fake call me when I was in a bar and totally had a chick's attention

Giving up on Swype again. I know everyone loves it but I just never got comfortable with it. I think the problem is I've typed the "normal" way for so long, I really don't do well when you have to point at the keys with one finger. I just type without thinking about where the keys are. In other words, I can't "hunt and peck" type at all. I have to type the conventional way.

I downloaded swiftkey and love it. Much easier for me and much faster. VERY intuitive word suggest database. They claim the app get to where it accurately predicts 1/3 of the words. I'm not there yet but it's supposed to have an AI that learns how you write. We'll see.

J

Is there an app for me to use my phone as a remote control for itunes? I've been googling and only found apps that let you syn droids with itunes. Nothing about just using the phone as a remote. I don't care about putting itunes music on my phone. I just want to have a remote control for my itunes.

I have Swiftkey installed and as much as I like Swype, I may give it a try. Always looking for new things to try.GasBuddy is awesome. It tells you the location and prices of gas stations around you so you can find the price/brand you like.

My Intercept updated to Android 2.2.1 over the weekend.

It sucks.

No more groups for contacts, no speed dial.

Terrible

After using it a few days, I LOVE swiftkey. It's awesome how it "learns" your words and gives you better suggestions. On lots of stuff now, I can type simple messages just hitting the space bar to select the suggested word. The learning curve is fast.I texted my son yesterday, "How were your finals?" and then sent my daughter the same message a few minutes later. When I sent the 2nd message, each word was suggested so it was just just h and then four clicks of the space bar. That rocks.J

I've been using it for months. It just keeps getting better at its predictions!! I still haven't figured out gesture swiping though. I figure i must not need it since i don't know what to miss

Maybe I need a fresh install of Swiftkey. Mine isn't doing any predictions and it makes it impossible for me to type certain words. When I type "girl" it comes out "firl" and won't change. When I type "man" it comes out "dan" and won't change.... Hm.

If it needs a new thread, let me know. Do you guys have any widget recommendations? I've had several nice looking ones that simply make my phone slow. I delete em' and it's a decent speed again.

I liked NFPs football widget but each time I install it to check, it's always at least a few days behind. I don't want news from 3 days ago.

I had another NFL one that was preloaded with RSS feeds but the developer changed it to load like 1-200 RSS feeds. Wanting tons of sources was a good idea but now my phone has to load em' all so clearly that's why that one became slow.

I've got Pandora and youtube and a few notes ones I like and the weather. Need football widgets if you have any ideas, thanks

I have PDAnet (discussed earlier) on my phone and put the windows install program on the SD card. (Storms, bad cable company? whatever) Twice in the last week, I've been at friends houses and been able to let them use the internet doing this with my phone. Came in so handy for me, figured maybe I'd bring this up again in case others think it's a good thing to have on theirs as well.

Also, I read a few pages here and we didn't get an answer on podcast apps. What did you guys wind up using?

Dropped my Droid1 in a puddle yesterday and need a new phone. Anyone who has recently bought an Android phone, what model do you have? Likes/dislikes?

Right now on Verizon, the Droid X or the Samsung Galaxy (w/ AMoled Screen) are the best options. I prefer the X but both are great choices. I prefer both to the Incredible.

All my phone numbers just went POOF! from my Contacts - anyone ever heard of that? Is there an easy fix, do I just reinstall from my backup that's kept on T-Mobile, etc?

Also - do I need a different browser than what came w/my Cliq Blur? I notice some apps don't finish when they take me to certain sites or put up pics - they're all fuzzy, or the clip doesn't play. Does this mean I need to install a browser that has Flash enabled?

I have been using SwiftKey the last couple days. I see the potential in it. Swype malfunctions too often right now to keep me on it completely. Swiftkey is interesting. We'll see..

Swiftkey has potential. But why does it completely miss words at times. For example i can type in "it" "hi" "by" and it will change it to "hello"

Strange

Hi = Hellohth
Still not what I want. I like to keep it informal.
I don't understand what you're asking. Typing in it and the suggested word is it. Same for by. Typing in hi and hi is the 2nd suggestion. You just click it and go.I haven't tested it but I'd bet you do that a few times and hi becomes the learned first suggestion.J

Remote for iTunes works awesomely. I used it when it was beta and really liked it. It's $4.99 now

I had an OTA update this morning on my EVO and now i have a Blockbuster and Kindle app on my phone. I hate this force fed crap. I certainly hope it isn't like the Nascar app that i can't get rid of. Why don't they just ask at the end of the update which if any you want? I know the answer i'm just venting.

I still love swiftkey. It seems to get better every day at word predictions. I can tell it is learning the way i text/email and uses my previous habits in predicting. Between Swiftkey and Vlingo i spend much less time actually on the keyboard!

I just upgraded the wife to the EVO for Christmas ann that was the first app i put on her phone. I made a list of the ones i have loaded on my phone for her to consider and i was amazed at how many i loaded that i rarely if ever use. Time for a cleanup!!

Downloaded this last week and I think it may be replacing Swype for me. I like swype, but occasionally I have some trouble recalling where a key is and find myself having to look around my fingers to remember where it is. I like not having to type the whole word in swiftkey. Still using the trial, but I may upgrade to the full version soon.

OMG

Download Pulse guys, its the greatest free app ever.

Mosaic views of all your favorite news, sports, tech sites.

What a great app!

When I type in words like it, by, hi it will change the word to something not even close. I delete the word try to type by for example again and it changes the word once again.I am back on swype for now.

Root your phone: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/12/09/z4roo...2-3-340-update/...and then buy titanium backup in the market.

After installing TB go through it and freeze the apps you don't want like BB, kindle and that nascar app. I repeat FREEZE do not uninstall if you uninstall it could brick your phone. I use this app and froze everything I don't want. The reason you want to freeze is sometimes the OS checks to see if you have these apps. If you don't the phone brick TB prevent the apps from loading at restart so you won't see them.

Weird. Not sure why it's doing that for you. When I type in "it" the #1 suggestion is "it". Same for "by". When I type in "hi", #1 suggestion was "his" and #2 suggestion was "hi". Not sure what's different on mine.J

He can't root his phone yet after doing that update. He will have to wait for an updated way to properly root the phone. Here is a good site to learn about rooting a droid and other information.

My mistake I thought I saw a site that said it worked on the EVO. I guess wait until someone provides a root for the updated phone should be any day now. That's the best way to get rid of unwanted apps

No problem. I finally decided to root my EVO but I updated the phone as well so that's how I know. They will come up with a way to do that but it does appear they are making more difficult each time to root a phone.

When I did the last OTA update on Verizon I lost root and the app I used before didn't work. That's when I found z4root and that did the trick.

That's the downside to updating the phone is that you lose the root. I have had my Evo since October and I finally decided to root the phone. One reason is to see how well the phone works for my wireless hotspot at home. I am so ready to tell Time Warner to kiss off. No more cable or internet with them.

$4.99 may seem like a lot to pay for a music player, but PowerAMP is extremely cool. I found it because I was looking for something that would play .flac files. It does that, but it's impressive in every other way as well. Highly customizable. A zillion options (including a ten-band equalizer), but still intuitive.

There's a free trial. It's worth downloading and playing around with.
