Android apps (1 Viewer)

For anyone who belongs to USAA, they have a wicked app that lets you do all your banking, insurance, etc through it. You can even deposit a check taking a picture of it.

Android Trojan Hits China

The Gemini Trojan has been found in a number of Android apps that have been infected and repackaged to look legitimate, and distributed through third-party app stores within China. Some of the apps where the infection has been identified include “Monkey Jump 2,” “Sex Positions,” “President vs. Aliens,” “City Defense,” and “Baseball Superstars 2010.”

If you are a runner the best runners app is now free. Its normally 10 bucks so get it even if you aren't a runner quite yet.

Runkeeper Pro - Free
The website isn't that descriptive. If I run without my phone, what benefit is there with this app?
You can get a cheap armband for your phone and use it to track your run using GPS, keep track of your workouts, shout your splits into your ear as you reach different mile markers, give you all kinds of fun statistics and tracking your improvement if you start doing serious training, plus use that same device to play your music, while also keeping a few bucks in the armband if you need to stop for water or something, plus it's your phone so if there's an emergency of some sort you can answer your phone or call an ambulance or whatever might come up. If you train indoors, it won't work, and if you use a heart rate monitor for other stuff, then you probably don't want to carry another device with you. But some of them do cool things like letting you run against yourself on a previous run on the same route. That's fun, but it's also good if you're noticing that you start out too fast then tend to drag during the second half of the run or something - you can really compare whether a slower start will help you more down the line.

Used Runkeeper today. Great app. My only problem is that I do not have unlimited data plan and I am not sure how much data this uses. It seems like it is constantly talking back to the Runkeeper servers to update your location/time/pace.

The reason I think this is I tracked my wife's run with it. She was running and I was on the Runkeeper site watching her progress.

Would this run in the background? Seems like it could get creepy. Just thinking outside the box here.

I checked the services that were running after I quit the app and it was not listed. I found this other app which tracks your runs as well, but may not be as chatty as RunKeeper.

I'll give it a try tomorrow and see.

Great thread. I'm hooked on angry birds! My gf has a cool racing game on hers that you tilt the screen like a steering wheel. It came free on here but is a pay application. Any other cool games that people are playing?

I like "say my name" (free). I get a lot of calls, and have a baby. If I am feeding the baby or whatever, , I hear them say who is calling, and decide if I need to get up & get it or not. I also use the holster (Droid X) w/ Bluetooth, so I know who is calling w/o taking my phone off of my waist.

You can do this without the app. I'm sure the app is better.

I downloaded a program called Music Bridge that helped me get all of my music ratings/playlist from itunes over to wmp. Some of you guys may want to check it out of you are ditching Apple like I did.

Ive been using MixZing for playing mp3s on my phone.

Is there any app out there that syncs with a web app so I don't have to create and manage playlists on the phones?

Just a bit quicker on the computer.

$4.99 may seem like a lot to pay for a music player, but PowerAMP is extremely cool. I found it because I was looking for something that would play .flac files. It does that, but it's impressive in every other way as well. Highly customizable. A zillion options (including a ten-band equalizer), but still intuitive.

There's a free trial. It's worth downloading and playing around with.
Love it except for one thing... bluetooth. I have bluetooth in my vehicle and as soon as I start it up, this app begins to play over my bluetooth connection. Its incredibly annoying that I have to shut it off every single time. Any ideas?

simi clock is a solid app.

It replaces the android clock on the home page and it allows you to tap three areas of the clock (left, middle and right). When you tap any one of those areas, a small scroll bar appears where you can add up to 5 apps to click on.....so basically it gives you the ability to add 15 apps to your home page without scrolling from page to page.

what is the best way to add and manage profiles on android? I tried Profile Valet, but I am not so sure I like it... maybe I just have to figure it out better.

Can you use this to replace the clock on the lock screen?Actually I'd like to get rid of the lock screen altogether.

What's the "lock screen"?

Try No Lock. The only catch is that there's a 5 second rule that stops a service from starting right away upon locking the phone, so your lockscreen would still appear within that 5 seconds. You can get around that by rooting and using Widget Locker.

Is there an app for me to use my phone as a remote control for itunes? I've been googling and only found apps that let you syn droids with itunes. Nothing about just using the phone as a remote. I don't care about putting itunes music on my phone. I just want to have a remote control for my itunes.
Remote for iTunes works awesomely. I used it when it was beta and really liked it. It's $4.99 now
:lmao: Exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks a million.

Is there a good app that allows you to download youtube videos? Tubedroid was great, but stopped working months ago. I downloaded another one and whenever I clicked a video, and downloaded it, it said it couldnt play.

Any ideas?

Is there a way to make e-mail refresh more quickly? I synced the "Mail" app on the homepage of my EVO to my hotmail account, but it only aut refreshes every few hours, and I can't see a way to push mail through on command.

I changed the frequency to the quickest setting (hourly) and it still only refreshes every few hours, plus you can't "force" a refresh.

I don't recall ever being able to accomplish this, but I'll take another look.

MixZing does that randomly when I have headphones plugged in...it will just start playing a song. Even when I have tunedin radio playing. Its odd.
