Anniversary - Killing of Harambe (1 Viewer)

I still don't entirely "get" this story. Kid could have been accidentally killed and gorilla was too big for a tranquilizer. Seemed like a no-brainer to me.

Obviously the kids' parents could bear some blame but, frankly, that's not a reason to not save the kid from his inattentive parents.

Part of the outrage came from the assessment that Harambe wasn't trying to harm to the child. Others were upset that shooting caged animals was so high up on the solutions list. Not only do they have to live a ****ty existence, if someone enters their space we'll just kill them.

Meh, Lenny never tried to kill the rabbits, either.

Now, whether zoos are humane is a different issue that I can appreciate. But if we are going to have them, I take no issue with killing an animal should a small child errantly enter their space and the animal has the real potential to cause serious bodily harm to the child.

Zoos are pretty gross in my book. I'm not going to say the response team was wrong for what they did, but I have a soft spot in my heart for animals. We're too quick (in general) to kill defenseless animals for being animals.

Harambe was dragging the kid around too. Easily could have killed him.

Agree with you on zoos for sure. My point is that if we're going to have and house inherently dangerous animals with the ability to kill a human quickly, then I have no problem with killing the animal before it can do so. I say this while still feel some sympathy towards the animal but it still feels like a no-brainer to me.

Of course, I also think saving the stranger is a no-brainer as well so what do I know?
