Really? The difference between 15 below and 15 above is 30 degrees. I suggest you go sit in 80 degree weather and 110 degrees and report back that there isn't a difference.Sorry, but cold is cold no matter if it is 15 above or 15 below. Dress properly and be prepared mentally for the bitter temperatures, and you can go about your day. Going to be 15 below tonight, (although to throw in some more hyperbole...it will be 45 below wind chill), and being outside will be no more stressful tomorrow than it was today at 5-10 above. I always laugh at the people that, come April in Wisconsin and the temperature hits 45-50 degrees, they shed their jackets and even wear shorts and welcome the warmth. Then come October and the temperature hits 45-50 degrees, they put on pants, long sleeve shirts, and coats and complain about the cold.Poppycock.Once you get down under 10 maybe but 15 is a lot different the 0.It will be hyped pretty good, but once you get below 15-20 degrees, it's all the same.
At 15 above with a 20 mph wind it takes longer than a half an hour to get frostbite. At -15 with a 20 mph wind, it's less than 10 minutes.Sorry, but cold is cold no matter if it is 15 above or 15 below. lets pay attention people. Of course their is a difference. And yet plenty of us get out in weather worse than what will be on Sunday. At 15 above with a 20 mph wind it takes longer than a half an hour to get frostbite. Yea, no difference.
I look at the cold weather as how it would impact style of play. When you look at Cinci vs San Diego with Fouts, they were unable to play their style of pass happy football, big advantage to Cinci. You play that game in San Diego or just a warm neutral location, more than likely it would have been a different outcome.I agree the temperature is going to impact the game. Still not sure how it does that other than to say that San Francisco is the better team. And I would think (nothing to back it up) that cold weather would be a boon to the inferior team because both sides won't be playing their best football.
That said I still think San Fran wins this game as much as I wish it were otherwise. Green Bay can't tackle and Frank Gore doesn't strike me as the type of player who will be impacted by anything. I think he's the star here.
The fans will be fine. Tailgating pregame is always the coldest part of the day. Once you're in the bowl, it's nice and cozy. For the players though, it must be brutal. Football is about 90% standing around - it's not like they're cross-country skiers. Getting to the heaters on the sidelines, then having to repeatedly run back out there must be terrible. And as you say, there's really no way to properly dress for the cold if you've also got to wear football equipment and play football.lets pay attention people. Of course their is a difference. And yet plenty of us get out in weather worse than what will be on Sunday.Whatever the temp or the wind, you dress for the weather. This morning will be between 18 and 25 below zero (that is pre wind chill) here, and I will be out walking the dog, perfectly comfortably. The dog, not so much, mostly because he hates dog boots. But I will be comfortable. At 15 above with a 20 mph wind it takes longer than a half an hour to get frostbite. At -15 with a 20 mph wind, it's less than 10 minutes.http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/ski/tools/windchill/Yea, no difference.Sorry, but cold is cold no matter if it is 15 above or 15 below. Playing football however would be insanely brutal. I get multiple layers, snow suit if I want, Pac Boots, etc. Players get a couple of layers of thermal Quite honestly, I can't see playing football in temperatures below zero. 20 degrees, if not windy, is actually kind of fun to be playing sports in.
Why? In October your body is used to 4 months of 70-90 degree weather so of course 50 seems cold and in April your body is used to 4 months of 0-30 degree weather so 50 seems warm. I've lived in WI 42 years and their is a huge difference between 15 above and 15 below...I don't understand how you feel differently.Sorry, but cold is cold no matter if it is 15 above or 15 below. The ball simply doesn't respond as well in cold weather. The ball turns into a rock. So yeah, long field goals become more difficult. How about kickers? Any correlation between freezing temps and bad/good kicker performance?
In heavy snow, I'd go with another kicker in playoff fantasy games. But will SF and GB lean away from kicking long field goals in sub-freezing temperatures? Maybe it'll be harder for the kicker to get loose, maybe more difficult to focus on the kick itself? Phil Dawson strikes me as a warm weather kind of dude.

Is it his 14 years in Cleveland that is giving you that impression? How about kickers? Any correlation between freezing temps and bad/good kicker performance?

Aaron Rodgers is light years ahead of Colin Kaepernick as well.I think Green Bay has shown they can run. San Fran can run as well, so it's going to come down to defense. San Fran's is light years ahead of Green Bay's.
Different offense. Much less read-option; I suspect to keep him healthy, because they don't have Alex Smith to fall back on anymore. Nobody on the 49ers side wants to see Colt McCoy in the game. Even Colt McCoy doesn't want to see Colt McCoy in the game.I'll admit that last two games I saw Kaepernick in were against the Packers and he looked just fine. He shattered all time records just a year ago.

I wonder if there will be any players who are crazy enough to wear short sleeves on the field. I sure hope not.buck naked said:Who cares about 10 or 15 degrees and how people react to or feel about the difference.
IT IS GOING TO BE FREAKIN COLD IN GREEN BAY ON SUNDAY AND GROWN MEN ARE GOING TO BE VIOLENTLY COLLIDING. THIS IS A REAL MAN GAME!
There is a shortage of "plus sized" panty hose in all of Brown County. The K-Mart shelves are bare.I wonder if there will be any players who are crazy enough to wear short sleeves on the field. and given the contain problems the Pack's OLB's have had recently I'd suspect we see the read option quite a bit....Different offense. Last year in 10 starts, he rushed for 679 yards. This year, in 16 starts, he has 524 yards rushing.
That said, given the extreme cold and his performance on the ground against GB last postseason, it might be time to break it out again.
Dang.According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the bad forecast for Green Bay's game against the 49ers got worse. According to AccuWeather, the high will be minus-five degrees, the low will be minus-20 and the wind chill will be ... MINUS-51 DEGREES.
Coaches (and the NFL) need to tell them all to wear as much clothing as they can wear and still play. The only "message" you're sending by wearing less is that you're a brain-dead meathead.Players must decide: Sleeves or no sleeves?I wonder if there will be any players who are crazy enough to wear short sleeves on the field. Updated the OP. Thanks. This is freakin awesome, as long as you're watching it on TV!It IS a lot warmer inside the stadium. It just is.

I was thinking the same thing. Not sure the Saturday weather but if it is a significant difference then just move it.Not like it will help much but why wouldn't the NFL look to move this game to noon or even Saturday? Seems like they are dropping the ball here a bit.

Football routinely is played in the elements. Except when the elements endanger life and limb. But when it comes to whether the weather will be so cold that it’s too cold from a safety standpoint, the NFL has no predetermined temperature reading that would postpone a game.
“We don’t have a number, no,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy tells PFT via email.
It’s a bit surprising that the league hasn’t worked with experts to identify a temperature at which it automatically becomes unsafe to be outdoors for extended periods of time. That’s likely because the league has never had to do it.
After Sunday’s game at Green Bay, the NFL may have to do it.
Currently, the Weather.com forecast calls for a high temperature — a high temperature — of five degrees below zero. The low for Sunday will be 20 below.
For the legendary Ice Bowl, the game-time temperature was 13 degrees below zero.
Making the situation more serious, the National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory from 6:00 p.m. CT Saturday until 6:00 p.m. CT Sunday, at which time the advisory converts to a warning: “FROST BITE ON EXPOSED SKIN COULD OCCUR WITHIN 30 MINUTES SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY… AND AS LITTLE AS 10 MINUTES SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING.”

A few players get frostbite? The cost of doing business.
Those poor multi-millionaire, celebrity players. The big bad NFL is forcing them to play a game in the cold. I'm sure they're glad they have you advocating for their welfare (and being overly dramatic for attention).Few fingers fall off? #### you, pay me.The NFL will do anything possible to not inconvenience its television partners which made all of them very wealthy.I was thinking the same thing. All the "the game is meant to be played outdoors" dorks should be required to attend this game.

I might feel the same way if most of the players were millionaires, but they're not. why, are you getting paid to go or something?Gotta say I am thinking of going....with a good friend who is a 49ers fan.
Diehard 49er fans, that's who.In the original Ice Bowl when blue collar factory workers could afford to bring their families to see some football? No problem. Is this why there's a problem selling it out? Has that been an issue in the past? Seem like as cold as that is, the fanatical Packerfans usually come out in it.
Today when the lowest seat price is over $100 and the same blue collar tough guys are unemployed or lucky to find part-time work? Big problem. What person with the disposable income to drop $1000 on a game (for good seats, with parking, drinks, food, etc.) wants to sit in 1F weather?
Yea, and I hear a lot of Packer fans saying if the Packers shut down the run and force Kaeperdink to beat them, they'll win.I'll admit that last two games I saw Kaepernick in were against the Packers and he looked just fine. He shattered all time records just a year ago.
Frostbite on exposed skin if you aren't warming it up. So if they have heaters they can keep their skin from freezing. If frostbite can occur in 30 minutes, how the heck can they play the game? This is gonna be nuts. I can't wait to watch this thing but I am concerned for the fans. Seems quite dangerous.
