10 Questions for Terrell Owens

Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007

Tony Gutierrez / AP

1-What should the NFL do about Michael Vick? Don Shipman, STAFFORD, VA.

Hmm. That's a very touchy subject. He's done the right thing by accepting the plea. He realizes that he has to be accountable for what he has done. We all make mistakes--and I'm sure he will grow from it. Everyone deserves a second chance. We're all human. That's what the world has really lost sight of.

2-Why are you so self-absorbed? Randall L. Dunn, CINCINNATI, OHIO

I don't feel that way. You can only base your opinion off the media's portrayal of me if you don't know me personally. But I definitely feel I have the skills to be able to put me on the plateau I'm on. I'm really confident in who I am, and you know, sometimes you have to be a little selfish to be great in what you do.

3-Were you offended when your ex-publicist explained that your accidental painkiller overdose last year wasn't a suicide attempt by referring to your contract, saying you had "25 million reasons" to live? Patrick Hurley, BUFFALO, N.Y.

At that time, there was so much going on that it didn't really have an impact on me until I got back home and started seeing the media making fun of it. I'm pretty sure it was something she wished she wouldn't have said. Look, we all make mistakes, just like I have. You just have to recognize the mistake and move on.

4-Why are wide receivers so high maintenance? Reda Shihadeh, JACKSONVILLE, FLA.

I'm not sure. You know, we're kind of looked upon as the go-to guys on the team. We're a very, very intricate part of the offense; we're expected to put points on the board. I don't think I'm any different than any of the other great receivers that have demanded the ball or seemed a little high maintenance themselves.

5-Do you regret how your relationship with quarterback Donovan McNabb turned sour in Philadelphia? David Sansone, PHILADELPHIA

You know what? I do regret some of the things that happened. Donovan is a great guy. Honestly, I do miss being around him. I learned some things from Donovan. It was a bad situation, and if there were a way I could go back and handle some things differently, I definitely would.

6-If you could choose any quarterback in the NFL to be the No. 1 in Dallas, who would it be and why? Patrick McLeod, PANAMA CITY

Man, that's a tricky question. I don't want to cause trouble ... O.K., I would say Peyton Manning, then Donovan McNabb. Peyton has history on his side, with his dad being a quarterback, and you can't say enough about how studious he is in the film room.

7-Terrell, any thoughts on when the 'Boys will win their next Super Bowl? Eli Blanton, CITY UNKNOWN

Eli, get your popcorn ready. Get your popcorn ready with a little extra butter. We have a very talented team. I know that just by talent alone, you don't win games. But we definitely have a group of guys that are ready to bring that sixth Super Bowl trophy to Dallas this year.

8-If T.O. stood for something other than Terrell Owens, what would it stand for? Madison Welch, ARLINGTON, VA.

I don't know ... ah ... Terrific One. Terrific One. I like that.

9-Is Barack Obama black enough for your vote? Annie Mac'Kie, CALGARY

[Laughs.] You know what? It doesn't matter what color the person is. May the best person win. Whoever does the best job, then that's who I'm for. But Obama is making a lot of the right moves.

10-What's your favorite TV show and why? Sascha Falahat, SOUTH BEND, IND.

I'm going to mention two shows. The first is America's Next Top Model. I just like to see how people interact--women can be catty once they're together. And my other favorite is the channel HGTV. I like to do my own decorating. No, I don't have a garden.

#5- Regret something?

#6- Interesting, must really love his current QB

#10- If it looks like a rat and smells like a rat.......

:lmao:

So what begins? Assuming that interview is legit, which I am sure it is, that is the best he has come off in an interview in forever.

Wow, this is the most unself-absorbed and contrite I have seen Terrell. Some very interesting answers. He admits fault to a degree in how he handled the Philly situation and gives big props to McNabb after they certainly were far from best buds over the past year or so.

I thought it was a good interview and came off well but why can't he just shut up and stop doing interviews. Nothing good will ever come from them....

I'm amused that when TO was in Philly and said Favre was a better QB then McNabb the media ran around screaming "TO wants Farve over McNabb" but when he does the exact same thing while playing for "America's Team" not a word is spoken. And I agree he did sound better than he has in the past.

Yep, the old double-double-triple standard in action.Of course it is Romo, I mean c'mon what's he going to say?

Big difference between saying, "Some other QB would be better than my current QB," and, "I think the two best QBs in the league are so-so and so-so."

that and the fact the Tony Romo himself would have NO problem admiting he's nowhere near the QB Manning is. TO is going to have a MONSTER year. I will not hesitate making him the first WR taken in fantasy drafts (redraft).

I feel no differently about him now than I did during his final year with the Eagles, except that I'm happy that it seems he's matured somewhat.

Looks like great answers to me. J

For starters, I hate Owens with as much passion as I've ever hated a pro athlete.

That being said, I thought he answered every question admirably.

Compare the vitriol towards Owens two years ago with the generally positive talk about him in this thread. Two years ago people were questioning whether Owens would ever play in the NFL again, saying that no team would want him because of the PR hit he'd bring, saying that the Patriots would never take a guy like Owens, and saying that the Cowboys were stupid to give him such a big contract when nobody else wanted him. Now, people like the Cowboys in large part because they have Owens, there's virtually no PR hit, the Pats have Moss, Owens looks like a bargain relative to his peers, and it sounds like most people in here recognize that he's a good player who does stupid things. Sure, there are some people who still hate Owens, but that numbers has dwindled rapidly.

This is why I disagree with people who say that Vick will never play in the NFL again.

Ya, but there's a pretty big difference between being a felon/dog mutilator and calling your former QB gay.
OK, we'll go back to Ray Lewis. Or Michael Pittman. Or Randy McMichael. Or Leonard Little. And remember when people said Latrell Sprewell would never play in the NBA again?

So what begins? Those were pretty darn good answers.
:shrug:Those were really tame answers and who else wouldn't want Peyton Manning as his QB? That wasn't an insult to Tony Romo. Some of you guys are the drama queens here, not Owens.
this interview is pretty big news in Dallas....it was all over the radio yesterdaythe obvious answer to "who would you choose at QB" is "I have all the faith in the world with Romo".He could have at least mentioned that he is happy with Romo and then went on to say Manning/McNabb/ect.you can't accuse him of not being honest though

What are you talking about? He's made it clear how he feels about Romo. See the other thread about T.O. where he's predicting 1,500 yards and 20 TDs.

I quote: "And speaking of my QB … you might as well draft him too, because he's going to the Pro Bowl this year."

exactly. The reference to McNabb was more about mending fences then it was about saying he is the 2nd best QB in the league, IMO.

Manning and McNabb both have done it year in and year out. If you were Tony Romo, are you going to be offended here? No way. The Favre over McNabb comment came after a lot of back and forth in the media. It was meant to be a shot at McNabb. And when you are a Pro Bowl QB and have led your team to 3 or 4 straight NFC championship games, it is a shot. At this point, Romo should be honored that somebody somewhere even thinks he should be offended by these comments.

I don't think Romo should be offendedthe word in Dallas is "why didn't T.O. at least have the sense to acknowledge his own QB before mentioning the names of others"

T.O. could have said "Well I am very happy with the QB I have here in Dallas BUT...Manning/McNabb/ect."

Com'on, they're both grown men, not women. Why should a man have to watch his words or word things certain ways to the protect the feelings of another man, when the words that were spoken are true. Even Romo would've known it was a lie if Owens would have said I prefer Romo over Manning. It's America guys. Time to stop acting like women.

I don't think it is a big deal and I am sure Romo doesn't care...if he even knows about that interview at allBUT it still seems like common sense to give your own QB some recongnition first....does it not?

Is this not how trouble started brewing in Philly?...all that "I would rather have Favre" talk?

it is more of a common sense/respect factor.

in the end you are right though...who cares what he says, it is T.O. and he has said much worse in the past.

and I bet Romo doesn't even know that interview even took place.

T.O. was asked about telling Time Magazine that Peyton Manning and Donovan McNabb top his list of QBs he'd want to see with the Cowboys. He shot a hole in any developing controversy, saying the interviewer said he couldn't include Tony Romo.

"At the end, I did put Tony in there," T.O. said, although that comment apparently got hacked out by a Time copy editor.

if they purposely left that out then that is a crappy thing to do....He should stop doing interviews after that if people are going to rig them for more attention

Even with the comments "not included" I didn't see anything menacing about his comments. He was honest, respectful, and humorous. You can't fault a man for that, and I haven't been on the TO bandwagon since he left the 49ers. (Anytime a player takes a shot at that other team north on I-45 turns me into a fan at least for a little while :headbang: ) (Go Texans!)
