On a side related topic: There's a massive anti-union culture for mine workers in parts of WV and KY. It absolutely makes no sense to me. For or against unions in general, they are absolutely essential in my opinion in mining, construction, metal trades, shipbuilding, etc... Massey's Upper Big Branch was a non-union mine and owners can just ignore violations all they want almost without repurcussions. Companies will always attempt to maximize profits. Only if workers have rights and act together can they have it in their CBA that these safety write-ups must be remedied. 1996-over 40% of miners were unionized. Now it's under 20%.
