Anquan Boldin - Just retired (1 Viewer)

Oh great.  Now I have to find a new wr8.  Just my luck.

All seriousness, I'm not sure why he even chose to play for that team with zero chance at a Super Bowl.  Was hoping to see him play one more year.  One of the most consistent players each year.  Need more players like him.

Caused one of the great fantasy free agent frenzy's of all time was when he went for 217 yards on 10 receptions in his first NFL game...

I was at that game. Also that day Lions 1st pick Charles Rogers scored 2 TDs. I thought I was witnessing the birth of 2 future Pro Bowl receivers. Sadly, there careers went in very different directions, Rogers would only score 2 more TDs over his career. Boldin would score 80 more.

Charles Rogers...now there's a name from the fantasy graveyard...trivia question...he holds the TD reception record at Michigan State...who's record did he break?

So if he in-retires and saaaay he signs with Dallas in my example (a team that has a chance to be in the Super Bowl), would he be then considered the biggest "icehole" or hypocrite ever??

All time tough guy. He hadn't his faced pretty much caved in and played like 2 weeks later.

Great career. No idea if he even speaks but I'm sure he has all kinds of stories.

He also never had any pain killers during that whole ordeal. He's a stud.

I got his jersey his rookie year to wear to Cardinal games and I still wear it to every game. He's my all-time favorite player.

He had a great chance to move up some all time lists this year as one of the main options for the Bills.

Chose to give it up to devote time in service to others. Class act.

Hall of Very Good.
Boldin had 14,008 yards from scrimmage and 83 TD in 202 games played.
Fitzgerald has 14,557 yards from scrimmage and 104 TD in 202 game played.

Is Fitzgerald also in the Hall of Very Good? Or do those 2.7 yards and 0.1 TD's per game push him over the top into the real HOF?

That is simplifying it a bit too much.

Fitz is 8th all-time in receiving TDs with those 104.

Boldin is 23rd with those 83.

That is not a small difference.

Having said that, Boldin was a beast of a player, tough as hell, and will be missed.

It was Gibson...Rison holds the record for most homes burnt down by a female hip hop star...
Rogers did get within 200 yards from breaking Rison's career yardage record at MSU... in 2 less seasons. He probably would have broken the record in 2002 if Jeff Smoker could have stayed sober.

The odds of a guy named Jeff Smoker staying sober were pretty long to begin with.

I was at that game, my brother and I were playing each week 1 and as the points seesawed we were both saying how the loser can have a ww shot at this guy. Pretty rough watching this guy just demolish the lions (although we won the game I believe.)

also great to have him last year, best wishes

The Bills are going from bad to worse.  Boldin wasn't going open up much running room for McCoy but he may have kept the chains moving some.   McCoy is going to get lots of touches but yards and TDs will be minimal.

Woo hoo Jordan Matthews owners
Boldin retiring isn't going to make Matthews catch the ball any better. He'll still be the same bucket of suck he was in Philly.

My moneys on Z Jones, and even more is on McCoy.

Faust is my hero as usual.  This may not come to fruition, but I was about to drop Boldin for some scrub taxi squad guy.  I'll wait to see what happens.
No reason not to wait & see, but the Bills still have his contract, so they'd have to release him, or get something for NE to sign Boldin.

I would imagine all Boldin has to do is say he's playing again and the release papers would be signed faster than Jonathan Williams can chug a 40.

Why?  I don't know what his contract was for, but I doubt it was very much.  Buff knows he doesn't want to play for them @ supposedly NE is interested, why would they just release him?  Buff holds all the cards.
