Antiperspirants, What Works for You? (2 Viewers)

Might be the Texas heat but my armpits are ignoring the daily antiperspirant application. I have 4 brands in the drawer and have been switching between them to no avail.

Luckily, I don't have much problem with sweating or especially with smelling. The issue I have is irritation. Gilette Clear Shield does the trick for me keeping me fresh without an irritation.

I’ve had to switch multiple times in the last several years as I started breaking out with whatever I was using. From basic brands to all natural brands, I eventually would start getting rashes.

Found this stuff and no more rashes, a little goes a long way and works great for me and the bottle last me about three months.

Shave/trim the pits?
Wear loose white cotton?
Drink more water?

I don’t use antiperspirants, just regular deodorant but I’m ALWAYS hot in the summer so I sympathize. We’ve had two weeks of 90 degree+ weather here in Maryland. Brutal.

GL!

i used to have a chaffing problem, but my dad gave me great advice, he said, “Suck it up, Buttercup, and run some dirt on it.”
Since then, no problems

Heavy sweater here, and deodorants alone or with baby powder are basically useless after about an hour for someone like me. I haven't found one that works perfectly, but have good luck with Gillette's clear gel - I also like gel better than solid and their scents don't give me a headache like some others do.
If you don't already do this or haven't tried yet, try applying the antiperspirant at night before you go to bed. If you shower in the morning, you can put a little more on after or just use a deodorant alone at that time with the antiperspirant at night, the idea being that this gives it a chance to do its job rather than just being sweated off right away on a hot day. I do think it works better for me that way.

Dove Men+Care Anti-Persperant, Clean Comfort.

Gel deodorants/antipersperants make me break out. The solid white Dove AP is great for me. I used Native once, was really good but couldn't justify spending that much money on it regularly. That stuff was like $13 for a regular sized container.

No recommendations, but I’ve been putting this stuff called body glide on my taint for the last couple months. That’s how humid it is in Florida.

Mr R used to use Mitchum unscented gel..Then they changed the formula, and it REEKS. They claim it's still unscented, but they lie. Now he's using my Almay unscented gel. Same company but no horrible odor. Weird.

(I can't stand the scented stuff.)

Very seldom sweat unless it is in the upper 90s and I am working outside for an hour or more.
Arm & Hammer Essentials
Like the rosemary lavender
My wife and I will go for a long walk. In no time she starts to sweat. I might before we get back home. She said it is because her body is healthier and more efficient. Sure ...........

Degree Black & White roll on works wonders for me in Houston and won't stain your white shirts. Gels are less than ideal in my experience.

Whatever you do, stay the f away from Toms. That natural stuff doesn't work and you'll start sweating and smelling 10 minutes after applying.

I was a big forehead sweater to the point where it was socially uncomfortable. I used this stuff called certain dri before bed a few times but, and this is gonna sound whacky, I found the trick was to put a piece of plastic wrap over my forehead after applying and to sleep with that on. After doing this a couple of nights, my sweating went away. I need to redo every few months. Haven't tried the pits bc not a big pit sweater but I would think the same concept applies.

No antiperspirant or deodorant in our household. No Qtips either.

When you have the no body odor gene (ABCC11) it’s not needed. Interestingly, though, close to 80% of Americans with the ABCC11 still use deodorant. I did until I was around 55ish.

80-95% of East Asians (Chinese, Japanese, Koreans) have the ABCC11 variant; about 97% of Caucasian Europeans have the smelly armpit allele.

Ha! I used to use this and then got Covid. Afterwards, it smelled horrible, but lots of things smell different now. I just assumed it was covid that ruined it for me, but you are right, it smells horrible now. And it ruins the pits of my shirts.

If this is really an issue for you, you can try some over-the-counter stuff. I used to deal with this in my 20's until I discovered these brands. You just dab them on. They use a lot of aluminum (which I am sure isn't the best for you), but they keep you dry. I used one for around a year. I no longer have excessive sweating.

The aluminums are what causes your white shirts to yellow. That's why that Degree Clear Black/White I posted earlier has been a revelation. Think it still has some sort of aluminum in it but their recipe keeps a pit sweater like myself dry and my shirts white.

Interesting! We had a couple of foreign exchange students from South Korea live with us several years ago. My wife was fussing at one of them to clean up their room (specifically dirty clothes) and that the room smelled. Their comeback was, “South Koreans do not smell”. Was not true for this particular South Korean dude!

My wife is Korean, and it is rare. Like 1 in 10. But common enough you should err on the side of caution.

(teenagers are not developmentally capable of good decision making or logic. source - was a teenager + raised one + currently have another slumping on the couch.)

In their home countries, 90% won’t use anything. But it’s almost flipped for Korean-Americans, because it’s shameful to have b.o. Thankfully have only had a couple experiences in school or work, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it handled gracefully.

It is somewhat jarring/shocking to encounter a housed adult who smells bad. I think it breaks people’s brains….like how are you not acutely aware how unacceptable this is? I knew for decades that my body did not produce armpit odor (I also don’t have wet yellow earwax - it’s dry, brittle, & grey), but I was terrified of not wearing deodorant,

Then you get older & you stop caring what people think lol.
