How about huge downgrade for my team and my playoff chances........
Well, it's obviously a huge downgrade for any team with Gates. But for those of us without him, we need to know how it affects other players in the SD offense. How about huge downgrade for my team and my playoff chances........
LT will obviously catch a few more passes, but I think parker is a nice sleeper play this week. Also, just read on the blog that Gates is going to be the dreaded "Game time decision".Well, it's obviously a huge downgrade for any team with Gates. But for those of us without him, we need to know how it affects other players in the SD offense. How about huge downgrade for my team and my playoff chances........
He's supposed to "test" the foot today or tomorrow (Friday) but no word of the result or if he even tried it.Chargers | Gates misses practice, questionable for Week 12Thu, 24 Nov 2005 12:50:23 -0800San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (foot) missed practice Thursday, Nov. 24, and is listed as questionable for Week 12. He is expected to be a game-time decision Sunday, Nov. 27.

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (foot) was not wearing a boot as he had since Sunday, Nov. 20, on his injured foot. As noted earlier, Gates did not practice Thursday, Nov. 24. Gates looks to be on the low side of questionable for the team's Week 12 game.
LinkTight end Antonio Gates did not practice Thursday, but he did see some progress with his sprained foot. The All Pro was out of the protective boot that he'd been wearing since Sunday.
"It's going right down to game time, but we're cautiously optimistic (that he'll be able to play Sunday)," Schottenheimer said. "He ran and cut and had a positive day."
Said Gates, "I tested it today. I'm going to wait until tomorrow and see how I feel. I'll have to see if it's sore. I'm going to prepare to play this weekend, take care of my foot and see what happens."
i couldn't disagree more. i'm 7-4 and need his production. even at 75% D's still have to game plan him and he's still the best TE in the game. a must start.I hope Gates doesn't play, and takes a few days off to get back to 100%, for the Chargers sake, and the sake of my FF teams in the playoffs.
somebody has some explaining to do...Missed practice on Thursday

LINKAntonio Gates: Practices Thursday

Friday, November 25, 2005
Update: Gates was able to practice with the Chargers Thursday for the first time since spraining his right foot last Sunday, the Associated Press reports.
Recommendation: "He did some work out here (Thursday)," said coach Marty Schottenheimer, who indicated that Gates' availability Sunday will probably be decided at game time. "We are cautiously optimistic. He ran and he cut. It was positive." For his part, Gates seems optimistic, saying, "I'm going to constantly prepare to play this weekend and take care of the foot."
Here's the question: are there any TEs that could realistically be on the roster of a Gates owner who will be better plays than Gates, even if he's far less than 100%?Expect moderate numbers for Gates and a big game from McKardell.
Yes.Here's the question: are there any TEs that could realistically be on the roster of a Gates owner who will be better plays than Gates, even if he's far less than 100%?Expect moderate numbers for Gates and a big game from McKardell.
I don't think this will happen if he plays. If Gates plays his bigges asset is using his body to shield himself from other players. And if he can get downfield at all he is still going to make plays and probably get a score as he is their best red zone option in the passing game.I think Gates palys at less than 100%.
He'll suit up, go out and decoy for them.
Expect moderate numbers for Gates and a big game from McKardell.
To answer your question, No. however, IF he does play (Marty's blowing smoke), don't you think Wash-D is going to target Gates in an effort to get him out of the game by attempting to aggravate the injury? Additionally, the normal questions apply. how effective will he be? decoy? how much playing time? add nausea...yes, I agree Gates at 75% is still better than most TEs at 100%.Here's the question: are there any TEs that could realistically be on the roster of a Gates owner who will be better plays than Gates, even if he's far less than 100%?Expect moderate numbers for Gates and a big game from McKardell.
I don't trust info from KFFL, but good news nevertheless.Chargers | Gates practices, questionable for Week 12Fri, 25 Nov 2005 10:40:33 -0800San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (foot) practiced Friday, Nov. 25, and is questionable for Week 12.
I'm pretty sure Antonio's sprain is mild- the MRI showed nothing significant. How long will the effects last?
The length of recovery depends on many factors such as your age, health, and if you have had a previous foot injury. Recovery time also depends on the severity of the sprain. A mild foot sprain may recover within a few weeks, whereas a severe foot sprain may take 6 weeks or longer to recover.
I know the Washington game is important, but having Gates healthy for the rest of the season is more important. I think the key to the GTD is going to be whether he can make it worse by playing. When can I return to my normal activities?
Everyone recovers from an injury at a different rate. Return to your activity will be determined by how soon your foot recovers, not by how many days or weeks it has been since your injury has occurred. In general, the longer you have symptoms before you start treatment, the longer it will take to get better. The goal of rehabilitation is to return you to your normal activities as soon as is safely possible. If you return too soon you may worsen your injury.
You may safely return to your normal activities when, starting from the top of the list and progressing to the end, each of the following is true:
* You have full range of motion in the injured foot compared to the uninjured foot.
* You have full strength of the injured foot compared to the uninjured foot.
* You can walk straight ahead without pain or limping.
What the hell is Marty saying? Wouldn't that be cause for some concern? Am I the only one confused by this statement?Chargers | Gates no lock to play
Sat, 26 Nov 2005 06:52:03 -0800
Jay Posner, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (foot) is not locked into playing in the team's Week 12 game. Asked if he could play with his foot feeling the way it did Friday, Nov. 25, Gates said, "It'd be tough. We're going to have to really sit down and we're going to have to talk. It'll definitely be a game-time decision." Head coach Marty coach Marty Schottenheimer said: "He did OK. We'll see. The thing that does give me cause for some optimism is that he's no more uncomfortable today than he was yesterday. We'll wait and see. We've still got some time. We'll make a decision just before the game."
I wish the owners in my league didnt trust KFFL. It would make life so much easier.More good news:

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (foot) practiced Friday, Nov. 25, and is questionable for Week 12.
I think he means that Thursday's practice had no negative effects (swelling, stiffness, range of motion, etc...) that limited him in Friday's practice. If so, what would that mean? He's still hurting, but not experiencing any set backs. hence, status quo. I don't think this is good news. What happens when Lavar Arrington comes over and stomps on his foot during a tackle? I don't think he plays tomorrow. What the hell is Marty saying? Wouldn't that be cause for some concern? Am I the only one confused by this statement?
I misread it actually... thought it said 'no more comfortable'. To answer your question, yes. I had Gonzalez in a dynasty league and I picked up Gates before the 2004 season. No one will give me what I consider fair value for either, so I have both.To answer your question, No. however, IF he does play (Marty's blowing smoke), don't you think Wash-D is going to target Gates in an effort to get him out of the game by attempting to aggravate the injury? Unless Marty is quoted after today's practice that Gates will play, I'm benching him for Cooley.
As of now I am starting Cooley in place of Gates. If Gates is a go Sunday morning I will change to gates. Here's the question: are there any TEs that could realistically be on the roster of a Gates owner who will be better plays than Gates, even if he's far less than 100%?Expect moderate numbers for Gates and a big game from McKardell.
Cooley is playing for me regardless. Gates is too risky this week.As of now I am starting Cooley in place of Gates. If Gates is a go Sunday morning I will change to gates. Here's the question: are there any TEs that could realistically be on the roster of a Gates owner who will be better plays than Gates, even if he's far less than 100%?Expect moderate numbers for Gates and a big game from McKardell.
My sources say Gates will play if he doesn't suffer any setbacks.
