Any attic ladder experts? (1 Viewer)

I've got a Werner SpaceMaster Model WH3008 attic ladder (wood). During the winter, one of the arms of the hinges gets warped. It warps so much that it scrapes the side header of the attic opening, and also scrapes the ladder. It's gotten to the point where in order for me to open it, I have to use a Stanley Wonder Bar (crowbar) to pry it open.

Any way of fixing this? I don't want to replace to hinge.

TIA

Ugh. Don't know about how to fix it. What are your thoughts on getting a replacement from the manufacturer? I would call them. We just got a new one - metal and like it a lot better than our old wood one.

So the hinge moves because the wood is warping? Or the metal hinge is bent?

For the first...You could use a 2x4 between the rails to reinforce the warped area and bring it back in. Just cut it to a length that will pull the rails in enough for clearance and screw it in from the outside of the rails. Obviously try to interfere with the steps.

For the second...Use your crowbar to get leverage between the rungs and bend it back in.
