Any chance Leinarts gets the next start? (1 Viewer)

Warner singlehandedly lost them the game today. 3 picks, 1 crucial fumble. Leinart would not make those mistakes, rookie or not...He is not a Vince Young project. He is ready now.

I'd guess no later than Week 10 (week after their bye). Only reason I wouldn't see him thrown in now is that he held out in the preseason.

Warner was horrible today. His INT in the endzone was an absolute joke. That's not to let him off on the fumbled snap at the end of the game.....that's on him too.

He might have 2 good games but then the defenses will have film and kill him. IF the defenses don't blitz and use very recognizeable sets then yea he could win a lot of games. Don't see that happening. The Offensive Line Sucks!!!

After he blew the game with that fumble, this was my first thought. This guy is absolutely KILLING this team with his turnovers. I don't think he is making throws that Leinart couldn't make. As a New Yorker who likes the Cards, I say get Leinart in there now and let him start getting his feet wet. He's obviously the future, and he can't possibly turn the ball over more than Warner already is.

But who knows.

The line is bad and Warner seems to hold the ball for too long at times... leading to fumbles etc.

I don't see Leinart starting for at least a few more weeks yet. I think Green sticks with Warner for a few more games... at that point he'll decide if Warner is still the guy for the team. Right now, Warner still gives them the best chance to win, so he won't get benched at this point, imo.

I wouldn't be surprised. I think Denny could go either way with this.

This was a very, very bad loss for the Cards and the loss is obviously directly attributable to Warner's 4 TOs.

No. Leinhart is not ready.
Why do you say that? Just because he's a rookie? Because he came late to camp? Because of his preseason? He looked phenomenal in those games IMHO.
Yes, yes, and yes. He's not ready and the Cards are still thinking they might be a playoff team. Leinhart is going to get them another 4-12 season. Warner is the guy unless he gets hurt or they start like 1-6. I say that with quite a bit of confidence.

Why are people acting like this is a ridiculous thread? An old quarterback has 4 turnovers and costs his team the game while his heir apparent top-10 pick is standing on the sidelines.

I don't think Warner is getting benched, but to act like it's a stupid question and makes a "useless" thread is part of what's wrong with this forum lately. It's a legit question, and it's okay to voice your opinion without being unnecessarily condescending.

Is it really a surprise to anyone that Warner is having this many TO's and costing the team games? That was pretty much a given before the season began.

Situation isn't much different than Warner's situation in NY (where he was replaced even though I believe the team was .500).

Expectations for the Cardinals are at an all-time high in that area (new stadium, finally spent money on a franchise RB). They're building for the future, so Leinart's going to be in there sooner rather than later.

Leinart wouldn't of performed any worse today than Warner. If you disagree, well, you didn't watch the game.

The latest will be after their Week 9 bye. Whether they are .500 or 1-7.

You must be new.

I found your post to be very condescending.

Exactly. Bulger won Mike Martz over for good in STL after Warner went on a fumble/INT tear a few years back.

Also remember Leinhart stayed an extra year in college. I'd put him a year ahead of most rookies. He ran an NFL style offense, and stayed an extra year just for fun. I wouldn't rank him ahead of Rivers, but I'd put him ahead of VY/Cutler.

This is why I think he's far more game ready than people realize. The kid also looked GREAT, and very poised, in preseason. This is not a ridiculous thread at all. But I think it's all just speculation until Green gives us a reason to think otherwise.

I agree with that. But which NFL rookie QB in recent years has made an impact this early in the season? Peyton Manning? Even he struggled with 26 TDs but 28 ints. I just think Leinart needs more time and the team won't go to him unless things are looking bad for the immediate future. Still too early.

Re: the last turnover, the fumble that absolutely lost the game for Arizona when they were already in FG range and tried to make it a shorter FG, after the play Warner was screaming at the center, and the center looked like he wanted to cry. My guess is that he snapped the ball on the wrong count. That was supposedly Warner's 9th fumble of the year already, though. Who knows if his thumb injury that used to supposedly cause his fumbling problems ever really healed properly? Two INT's in the red-zone, one into the end zone would get even JAKE PLUMMER'S biggest apologists riled up. I doubt Warner gets benched while moving the team up and down the field while the running game is still not exactly all that competent. But I doubt even Warner believes he's gonn afinish the year with that starting job.

Next three games will be tough (ATL, KC, CHI). If they end up going 1-2 or worse (assuming Warner doesn't get snapped in two by Urlacher), I would suspect they give Leinart the reins week 7 with OAK and GB to ease him in.

If this was anybody else but Denny Green, I'd say the Leinart cries could be premature...but the guy did start Navarre over Josh McCown for a game last year even though McCown had started most of the games they won.

(KFFL) Associated Press reports Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner took a helmet-to-helmet hit during Week 3. While he remained in the game, he proceeded to throw three interceptions following the collision.
This makes me feel a little better about Warner's picks if he wasn't all there when he threw them.

It's a simple answer. Leinert's playing time will be determined by Warner's health and the Cardinals record. The Cards should be 3-5 going into their bye. Look for a change then.
