How do you think he is as a player personall guy? Do you think he did a good job in Green Bay. or do you think your talent took a dip under him. Just interested as a Texans Fan.
thanks because it worries me that a guy that never played the game is scouting for my team. I just don't get it. But in his defense the texans had a very nice draft last year so hey who knowIt is said that Sherman the GM lost Sherman the Coach his job. One problem I thought Sherman had was he was to loyal to his people, coaches and players alike. If someone is not doing the job you have to get rid of him, Sherman did not do this. The talent definately took a dip under him.
You will sorely disappointed in the number of scouts and excellent personnel men who have no experience playing past low level college at best. Being able to recognize talent is a very different skill than having the physical skill to play the game. It has a much to do with being able to be given a set of standards and recognizing the people who meet those. In other words, see Matt Millen. Good NFL player and even decent announcer, has not show any skill at talent evaluation. Also, the decision makers for the Texans are Rick Smith and Gary Kubiak. Don't let the pictures of Sherman at the combine fool you that he has more say than he does.thanks because it worries me that a guy that never played the game is scouting for my team. Actually, the pictures of Sherman at the combine tell you everything you need to know about his quality as a talent evaluator. You will sorely disappointed in the number of scouts and excellent personnel men who have no experience playing past low level college at best. good ol' Shermie.such a control freak that he probably told everyone to stay away from the combine because he could handle it all by himself. then he burned out from the 22 hour days.Actually, the pictures of Sherman at the combine tell you everything you need to know about his quality as a talent evaluator.
Yes, he did have one or two solid moves free agent wise, but most pickups and drafts were a disaster. He completely depleted a Packer team that was pretty solid all around. His coaching on the other hand was adaquate. Its a real shame, because the guy is a good offensive coach. He was a terrible, terrible GM.However, he did trade for Harris when people doubted his ability to be a starter, he did move up to get Walker when people had doubts about his ability to learn an NFL offense, ect. Jenkins was a Sherman pick. He brought in some talent. The problem was his blunders were just so over the top horible (3rd round pick for a punter, the Cletius Hunt deal, ect) that no one will give him an ounce of credit for some of his good moves.
Don't forget drafting Ahmad Carroll in the 1st round ahead of Chris Gamble. Noone had Carroll has a first rounder and Sherman reached terribly for him. The Walker pick was nice but Green Bay gave up alot to get him.I'd rate Sherman as a very good offensive coordinator, o.k. as a coach (too many challenge blunders and blind loyalty to poor assistants) to rate him any higher, and a bad GM.Its a real shame, because the guy is a good offensive coach. I don't think Sherman had much to do with the draft last year. He was promoted to his present position last month.prymetyme25 said:thanks because it worries me that a guy that never played the game is scouting for my team. I just don't get it. He took a SB team and as GM rode it into the ground. 1st round picks were good? I don't remember that.A good coach but he should have turned down the GM job.mr. furley said:terrible GMterrible.if he's heading up the draft for the Texans, you're screwed.
Per the question about Sherman as GM.....he was so bad that I can't think of many words to describe it. Somone else hit it on the head when they said that Sherman was so bad as a GM that he got Sherman the head coach fired. The only reason he was fired as head coach was because of how poorly he did as a GM.
If I could only name one thing that showed how poor Sherman was as GM it would be the time he traded up in the third round to pick a punter. Not only did he take a punter in the third round but he traded up to get him! Nothing compares to this debacle when talking about Sherman the GM. Some fans like to stand up for him but ask them to name players that Sherman successfully drafted and they'll only come up with maybe 4 success stories.
As a coach and person.....Packer fans loved Sherman. As a talent guy/GM.....we were looking for his dog.
