So I am in my new home, less than two months old. Going through a hot spell, so turn on the A/C Friday. Nothing. Turns out after a big pissing contest between the AC folks and the electricians that the compressor went bad, shorted the fuse. AC folks finally admitted today (yes, five days later and after making the electricians replace fuses, etc) that it is the compressor and it needs to be replaced. No part in stock, another three to five days to get one. I tell the lady that puts us at ten days without AC and I feel that's pretty unreasonable. She calls back later and says they have found an "alternate compressor" and will install it tomorrow.
So I won't lie, this whole "alternate" thing has me very concerned. It is a new unit, less than two months old. Am I courting future problems allowing an alternate compressor to be installed? Or is it not a big deal and something that is done all the time with no detrimental effects? Would really like to hear from some AC folks that know. I searched google but all it gives me is alternatives to a compressor. I can't find anything on the perils or lack thereof with installing an alernative compressor on an existing system.
