Anybody else gonna blow stuff up tonight? (1 Viewer)

I'm all in favor of people having a good time on occasion. However, our neighbors don't know when to stop. They must buy thousands of dollars worth of fireworks, as they go all weekend long. Last night was an appetizer and wasn't too bad. But today they started before noon and have only intensified their barrage. It gets to the point that it is almost a war zone . . . like you can't even see anything because there is so much smoke and residue in the air (which ends up blowing into out house).

They shoot stuff over my yard and a lot of it ends up on my lawn (which they never pick up). Our pets can't take it. I have no problem if they want to take an hour and go nuts. But they act like this for three days in a row . . . and they do stuff like this over other holiday weekends. Add to that that they end up getting plastered and go drag racing in the street. We have never ratted them out, but every year the cops show up and it turns into a scene. They get warned, they ignore it, they get told to stop, and they don't. Then the cops show up for a third time and are ready to arrest people. The party gets even more rowdy after the fireworks stop and the whole thing won't wrap up until 3 or 4 am.

We shot off a bit down at a buddies house last night in a rural-ish area (Hernando, MS). Nice community where everyone is in 3-7k sqft homes on 3-6 acres. Residents of every house within 500yds was there and most brought stuff to contribute. I was just attending so I threw in some cash.

Started around 8pm. Finished around 10:30. Nice array of Roman candles/sparklers for the kids and big rockets, mortars/cubes for the guys.

Was a nice night :thumbup:

The multiple shot mini mortars make one hell of a mess. That stuff goes everywhere. At least the big mortars only have one canister to find and pick up, along with the cap from the canister, but those multiple shot ones, damn. All done now though. Not a wrapper, not a stick from a bottle rocket, not a single canister or tube unaccounted for.

I always get a smile from some houses in the neighborhood. Some of them have a debris pile in the street, and down their cul-de-sacs that will sit out there for days.

 
Oh come on, man. You got no lady fingers, fuzz buttles, snicker bombs, church burners, finger blasters, gut busters, zippity do das, or crap flappers?

Yep, but it doesn't need to be the 4th for people to be drinking and blowing things up on their own heads. Those are just idiotic Darwin Award winners that don't represent 99.9999999% of the good wholesome fun that people have with fireworks on the 4th.

But since this is FBG the 5 most idiotic people out there become the general perception of what goes down. Forum syndrome. My new spin on fake rage.

I spend money on video games some people think that's pretty stupid. I just can't relate as I got bored with fireworks in my teens.

you could probably buy 10 video games and get years of enjoyment for what they spent on that arsenal.

 
Not sure people understand what this stuff actually costs these days. I spent less than if i went to a Browns game.

 
So enough of the grumpy grump attention hoooorrres taking over the thread. Anyone got any other pics or videos of anything they did? I do not unfortunately, but that pic a few posts above looks close.

Had a few stragglers that shot some off last night. Not as many as most years. Many years they start up as earlier as three weeks before the fourth and continue until several days after. This year it seems, thus far, pretty well confined to the one evening, much to the relief of my dog.

 
I do it simply for the memories. Oh, and it's a lot of fun. I remember many good times with my dad doing fireworks....safely.

I want my kids to have those memories as well. I don't drink and use bricks / cinder blocks to avoid any misfires.

You can buy extra long lighting sticks and wear gloves / eye protection. Light and jog away behind something safe.

Kids off in the distance.

It's awesome.

I don't go crazy either. Stopped in Phantom with a coupon or two. $150 later had a good 1/2 hour display in my cart.

Although everyone at the party loved them so much this year, I'm expecting the budget to grow in 2016 due to more donations.

Cant wait until 2016!

 
As far as the risk involved, I don't drink. Ever. And I'm sure a lot few of you on this site have drove home after a few drinks.

Probably when you shouldn't have. To me, that's putting more people at risk than shooting off a few fireworks once a year.

 
There are quite a few normal everyday activities that are riskier than fireworks.

The dumbest of the dumb are the ones getting hurt, and that is even when they also get unlucky.
