Anybody feel like defending these cops? (1 Viewer)

also- they drive for how many miles with a cop flashing their lights at them, and then get out of the car walking towards the police car that's been following them for however many miles while demanding to see their ID and not following their instructions?

Additionally being warned several times that if he did not comply and turn around, he would be tased. His last movement is to then turn towards them and take a step in their direction, at which point they tase him.

I don't see a problem here. They should have tased her through the window for good measure.

and the baby for good measure- it's pretty much doomed to end up being a monumental moron and future drain on society/tax-money.

Yep. Just hooked the tased up to the car battery and zapped the whole damn thing.

Just had a nice read through the comments section of the video :lmao:

I'm pretty sure I can tell who needs to wear a name tag to work...

"Your a moron" and "collage" are usually my favorites.

Some good quotes from the article:

Multiple lawyers and police officials today told MMAjunkie there is no law requiring officers to provide three forms of identification upon request. When asked to clarify the law he and his wife cited to police several times in the video, Herman admitted to having issues finding the statute.

Statute or not, Herman sees no reason that his request was unreasonable.

“Common sense, anytime you’re dealing with anyone, you identify yourself,” he said. “Especially if you have a gun in my face and you’re asking me to do something. Who are you? I have the right to know who I’m talking to in any situation. I’m a person, and I deserve to be treated as a human being and an individual, not a dog.”

“Those three felonies all happened. I didn’t do them – they were done to me. And then the charges were put on me for getting them done to me. That’s ridiculous. What kind of a man, what kind of a person would do something like that?

“I want all the charges leveled against me that they committed against me, charged against them. This is ######ed. That cop needs to go to the police station and file all those charges against himself. That’s what I’d like to see happen. I want his badge. Somebody who acts like that should not be a police officer.”

He was unaware of his wife filming the incident at the time, but is now grateful for the way the footage has rallied support from certain segments of the population.

If only there was some way possible that police officers could identify themselves on sight. Perhaps a certain style of clothing or maybe a button or patch on their clothing. Or a special looking hat. And we could require that police officers paint their vehicles in a certain way that is different from civilian vehicles.

We should really think about these things.

What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.

Hey, you never know. That cop could actually be a hitman disguised as a cop. Justified

Somebody should taze the writers of that show.

Elmore Leonard died. The first couple of seasons were great. Now they suck.

They told the guy to get on the ground. He did not. I don't see a problem with how they handled him. Don't follow instructions, what do you expect?
First thing he should have done is stay in the car. Get out of the car and be hostile then you're setting yourself up to get "hostility" back.
yep. He probably told her to film this and wanted to provoke them into doing something that could get them on the news. I wouldn't want to be a cop these days. People want to make you look bad.

Who doesn't pull over right away and then gets out of the car and walks towards the police? Especially with a young child in the car? This guy and his wife are not victims here. Are there cops that may go too far? sure, but not in that lame attempt at catching some on video.
It's pretty amazing how wrong you are. You're just guessing here, but trying to make it sound like facts. Thank goodness you're not a cop.

If what the couple are saying is true, that they were 'travelling to the nearest well-lit area to pull over', even though it was 3 miles away... does anyone have a problem with that? It's the middle of the night. It's cold. Is it wrong to drive (presumably at a very low rate of speed with hazard lights flashing) to a gas station where it's at least safer?

This guy is a former UFC Heavyweight fighter. He's 6'4 225... There prob aren't 1,000 people in the entire world (out of over 6 billion) that could beat him up. He was scared? Cmon... He's just a moron. If I see a police car behind me with their lights on, I pull over, turn on my dome lights and keep my hands on the steering wheel until they approach. A well lit area to protect me from who, the police? If they were that scared his moron wife should've dialed 911, not pulled out a video camera.

It would seem suspicious or peculiar, but I wouldn't have a problem with it. Once they got to the gas station and he got out of his car, came towards the police and didn't listen to their instructions, that's when you have an issue. If this dude acted like any of is would once we pulled into the gas station, we would have been on our way in minutes.

It's not difficult

You take that back! Still enjoying the show...in fact, time to watch the season premiere.

An officer was involved in a fatal shooting for the first time since police in Muskogee, Oklahoma began wearing body cameras, the Tulsa World reports. In the video, Officer Chansey McMillin — who was responding to call that a man outside the Old Agency Baptist Church was telling people his ex-girlfriend “had a bullet with her name on it” — approaches 21-year-old Terence Walker and tells him he is going to pat him down for weapons. “Just relax for me,” McMillin says as he pats Walker down. “What are you shaking for?” At that point, Walker takes off running with McMillin in pursuit. After a few seconds, Walker bends down to pick an item he dropped and briefly turns toward McMillin with the item pointing towards him. Officer McMillin fires six shots at Walker, striking him three times

I dont know I thought were were talking about defending cops....seemed like wearing these body cameras was a good idea.

Cop will be exonerated without any wasted money on a trial

Talking about defending cops in this particular instance (Herman).

ETA: didn't watch the video, assuming there is one, as I don't particularly need to see someone gunned down early on a Saturday morning.

"gunned down" seems like the wrong verb here.

Officers serving and protecting is probably more like it

No matter the reason or justification, gunned down still works for me. That's not saying it wasn't justified, just what the end result was.

They told the guy to get on the ground. He did not. I don't see a problem with how they handled him. Don't follow instructions, what do you expect?
First thing he should have done is stay in the car. Get out of the car and be hostile then you're setting yourself up to get "hostility" back.

If I was stating this as fact, I wouldn't have said "probably". I would have said that he did tell her. But how would I know since I wasn't there? So yes, it was a guess. Congratulations on cracking the case, inspector.

So are you saying that when a cop pulls you over you should get out of the car and walk towards him while ignoring his instructions? ok

seeing the guy was driving with his hazards on one would think that the cop was following him as to help the motorist ....but thats what we would hope was the case...and if the guy got out its because he didnt do anything wrong ...so im sure he just got out to explain his situation...then the cops got aggressive

It's amazing that if he would have listened to the cops instructions just one of the times they were given to him, this wouldn't have been an issue.

Instead, people view the cops as aggressive. Obey the law, people.

yeah, because a tweeker never drove down the road with hazard lights on, headlights off, at high speed, refused to pull over then refused to follow orders from police.

I'm glad this was posted. I never could relate to the other aggressive police incidents because they were black and I was white. And no matter how hard I imagined myself attacking a police officer or resisting arrest, it didn't matter because I was white and I get to play by a different set of rules.

But this one... I look similar to this guy, at least on a census report, and I can say without a doubt that this wouldn't happen to me unless I was disobeying instructions.
