Anybody going to Detroit? (1 Viewer)

I'm going. I haven't tied together my arrangements yet but my team is there, I'm from there, and I won't be missing this for anything.

Hoping to go, but man did Pitt winning jack up the ticket prices. Looks like $2300ish for nosebleed endzone seats is the going rate!Anyone know of a better option than the brokers and ebay? Go Steelers!!!

I hear there are some awesome places to stay in merry old Windsor. :P
I find this hilarious. I live in Leamington Ontario which is about a half hours drive from Windsor and I can't believe how much press the Windsor strip clubs and 'massage parlours' are receiving. I guess since I've grown up with it being right in my backyard I've never really thought about it being anything newsworthy.

The nice areas are going to be a hual to get to Downtown, stay North of 8 mile if you can.If you're going to go to a strip joint make sure it's one in Windsor, but bring your passport.

I hear ya. Prices have skyrocketed since late last week. Was debating whether to lock in, really wish I had. :wall: :wall: Would love to make the trip, but have to find tickets at the right price. Hotels anywhere near Detroit are impossible to come by. I would plan on driving an hour to the game. Maybe stay in Toledo or Lansing.

Wouldn't mind even a 2-hour drive at all. Just hoping to find tix at anywhere near reasonbly priced. Have some Stiller season-ticket-holder friends. Hoping they can help.

Look in the Livonia/Plymouth/Northville/Novi area. About 40 minutes away from Ford Field. If you come to Northville me and Keerock can show you around!

As a Canadian....I highly recommend staying in Windsor. It's an immediate 15-20% discount on your room after converting dollars.Have I mentioned the Strip Joints????Top Notch.

With Steelers fans able to drive to the game, the tickets are going to through the roof. Us Steeler fans will get a second mortgage on our house to go. I expect them to snap up most of the tickets available in the secondary market by mid-week, no matter the price.I was planning on going in 98, 01, 04 if the steelers won the AFC title game. This year, I have prior commitments on Saturday I cant get out, and the wife and I are already laying down big bucks for a trip to Europe in March. So, I'll be watching from Austin. To all the Steeler and Seahawk fans going, enjoy the time of your lives.

As a Steeler ticket holder and someone in Pittsburgh, good luck with that. The ticket lottery winners fall in 2 camps, going to the game or selling the tickets to make a huge profit. It's hard to blame them if they are getting what I am hearing.

from what I've been reading...you'll want to stay as close as possible to downtown and around Ford Field (entertainment district). Many of the major roads are being blocked off, in an attempt to make downtown Detoit more pedestrian-friendly....(wow what an oxymoron that statement was) :loco:

I haven't heard yet from the Steelers so I assume that I didn't win the lottery although I am still holding out hope. Face value for the ticket was $600 so I assume that $1200/ticket would be lowest you are going to get from a scalper. For the guy asking about Toledo, it is a short drive (less than an hour) and it is a decent city. If you stay there make sure you go to Tony Packo's Cafe. It is great (and cheap).

Or try heading north up I75 to Troy, Rochester or Auburn Hills. Lots of hotels up that way and about the same distance as Guru's recommended westside locations.

Thanks Godsbrother. Are there areas of Toledo that I should stay away from?
Downtown Toledo is fine. If you aren't going to stay right downtown then I would avoid anything inside of 4 miles or so. Oregon would be a good choice but really any of the suburbs are fine.

I think you can double that.

I'd be willing to negotiate my house for the week. If I had a place to go.In Grosse Pointe. Great are. About 15 minutes to the stadium. There is actually a website for homes in the area.My wife found it the other day. Some homes are going for $5,000 A DAY.

You are right, I severely underestimated the cost of scalped tickets. Right now they are going for $2200/each. Unless Mr. Mailman has good news for me when I get home I will be watching the Super Bowl on TV. That ain't all bad: cheaper/better food & beer and shorter line to the bathroom.

i think that # will only go up as the game approaches. banks around pittsburgh have to be filling up with 2nd mortgage applications right now.

I found a guy who's got a pair of tickets and looking to refinance. I'm going to give him the deal of a lifetime on a mortgage and get 2 tickets in return. Just filled out the application on my website. :pickle:

I hope this works
Take me to the game with you and you can stay for free at my house.

I know a girl that can go. For free. But she doesn't like football. Life's not fair sometimes.

Well, the mailman came and went and apparently I did not win the lottery. Season ticket holder since 1971 (my Dad's back then) and haven't won the friggin' lottery yet.My brother called me and is trying to convince me that we should pay the $2300/ticket and go but I can't bring myself to do it. That is almost 4x the face value and darn hard to justify to see a football game that you can watch for free at home. Still the fact that we can drive there and have family in Toledo and Detroit makes it tempting because we can do everything else on the cheap. But I am standing by my $1200/ticket limit.Looks like I'll be staying home...

All you gotta do is grow a pair of breasteses and bat your eyes. Then someone will take you for free. :P

Article about Windsor, the other Sin City

The over/under on the number of Seahawk fans who will be at Ford Field:

37½
The Detroit News estimates some 100,000 Steelers fans and more than 5,000 Seahawk fans. They didn't count me though so that makes 5001. Plus all of Detroit loves the Doctor so add 4 million to the Seahawks side of the ledger.

Looks like I'll be staying home...
My brother called last night. He bought two tickets from his bro-in-law's friend, a Detroit season-ticket holder that won the SB-ticket lottery. Price for the two = $4500.He is going with a neighbor buddy but gave me one last shot to go. I said thanks but I turned him down. $2250 to see a football game is too steep for my blood...

Don't quote me, but I heard a rumor that The Bus is from the Detroit area and he is finally coming home!Gawd....I can't get enough of that story.

bring your passport if you want to cross the border.
You can also get by with a drivers liscense and a certified copy of your birth certificate.
I'm pretty sure you need to have a passport to go to Canada and back now.
You will need your passport if you travel by air at the end of 2006. At the end of 2007, you will need your passport for any travel back into the U.S. But for now, a drivers liscense and a certified copy of your birth certificate will still work.

Looks like I'm going to the game. I'm late on trying to get a hotel, so any help from Detroit homers would be appreciated. I'm seeing a few rooms available in Warren? Decent area? Also found a room at a place right near the airport. Convenient to Ford Field? What's the best public transport option if I don't want to drive to and DUI from the game?TIA for any help.

I have my flight and hotel room. Prices are starting to drop on the tickets so I'll probably wait until Tuesday to get tickets.

South Warren is a pit.The higher the # of mile road you are near by the better.

The place near the airport would be better for security reasons but worse for traffic. I am from Warren originally and it really depends. Anything north of ten mile road is good to go but anything south, isn't going to be in the best neighborhood. The best public transport is going to be via buses. Your hotel should have info on shuttles and in Warren, you will have the advantage of being a little closer to the stadium. PM if you have specific location or any other questions.

Anybody else know anything about this? I have a room in downtown Detroit for Sunday evening, and was planning on driving in early Sunday AM to avoid all the chaos. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Just a few roads near the stadium and the winter blast festival are gonna be closed off. If you are driving downtown. Park near a people-mover station ( detroit mono-rail) and take it to greektown. Walk from there. about 1 block north to f.field.

As of Jan 1 2006.
That's exactly what I thought.. We even went out and got a passport for our 14 month old daughter so we can go eat in Windsor's Little Italy section on Erie St.BTW, This is a VERY good (slightly off the beaten path) choice to eat out if you venture over to Windsor.
