Anybody going to Detroit? (1 Viewer)

Im in Windsor for school and I cant wait this week is going to be nuts. I'm orignally from Toronto and already theres alot of hype here. Clinton Portis is going to be at Voodoo nightclub one night.Larry Johnson and Tony G and 2 Hall o ffamers also having a sesion i forget the cost for it.Doug Flutie is having a party at Club Meow.Windsor is seting up big screens and BBQ's on the river along with beer tents and ill be there all sunday

That's exactly what I thought.. We even went out and got a passport for our 14 month old daughter so we can go eat in Windsor's Little Italy section on Erie St.

BTW, This is a VERY good (slightly off the beaten path) choice to eat out if you venture over to Windsor.
 In the tips for Travelers to Canada it states:
The travel initiative requirements will be rolled out in phases. The proposed implementation timeline is as follows:

* December 31, 2006 – Passport required for all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.

* December 31, 2007 – Passport required for all land border crossings, as well as air and sea travel.
Maybe someone who uses the border often can clear this up.

From this article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

"Rooms also were available as close as Windsor, Canada, which is only a couple of miles from Ford Field, but the nightly rate was about $298 at a Days Inn. That's right, a Days Inn. Two forms of ID, including a valid driver's license, passport or original or certified birth certificate, are required to cross the border between Canada and Detroit."

Got a room in Windsor for the weekend. What's the best way to get to Ford Field from there? Is there any option other than driving myself?Any suggestions from homers about what to do on Saturday night?TIA.GO STEELERS!

You can take the Windsor Tunnel (preferred), the Ambassador Bridge, or swim. Just go to the main bar district in Windsor on Saturday night and you'll be taken care of. It's a pretty nice place.

Thanks, Doctor. I'll have the wife with me, so I'll have to avoid some of the other entertainment options mentioned earlier in this thread. :P Will I have a problem driving/parking/etc on the US side?

go to http://www.sbxl.org/transportation/parking.asp and look at the park & rides. These are the best rates in town and you'll want to park at Wayne State coming in from Canada. If there is no parking there don't veer to far away from the path because that isn't the best area to be cluck clucking around in. If I meet some annoying Steeler fans I'll be sending them to a club 4 blocks from Wayne State.Windsor has some nice places for you and the wife. It's a good time.

If you like history consider what Detroit has done for the United States as the center of industry for so many years.

This site tells you where to eat and drink. If you like Mexican food this is the best place to eat outside of Texas, Arizona, or California. SW Detroit has some of the best Mexican Restaurants in the country.

Tiger Stadium is not far from the center and I recommend taking a look at that if your a big sports fan. It won't be there next time you visit (finally). Belle Isle is awesome and Corktown has some good places to drink.

I don't like the city but I love it. Try not to go onto the other side of Gratiot away from the center and give the city your money. They can use an influx.

Also, try Casino Windsor. They usually have a tunnel bus running. Seems like they might run a deal for transportation to and from Ford Field at accomodate casino partons. Worth a try.
