Is it a choice (just didn't care for it) or did you have problems with it and quit?

If so, how do you handle having people that come over to your place who bring alcohol?

I used to be a partier. Then I got married, settled down, got a decent job, and had a kid. i more or less lost my taste for alcohol and that lifestyle. When my friends came around and gave me a hard time about it, I usually just laughed it off. "This is who I am. Accept it or move along."

That's me in a nutshell. Though I'll still have a drink or two socially, I rarely feel like it so I just don't. There's only one guy that gives me a hard time about it but I don't see him too often so I just blow it off.

Haven't had a drink for 12 years, Had too many problems with it. Found out it may have been causing my seizures so it wasn't to hard to quit. My wife still drinks although very rarely as we get older. Don't have a problem with other people around me drinking at all. You get used to it, especially helps if the people you are with understand and don't push it.

I have seizures too, and my Drs. said that it would interfere with my medicine. My wife and I never really drank that much, so it was easy to just not have much around the house. If we have a party, or if we go somewhere, I have no problem with others drinking.

One thing is that not drinking makes going out cheap! Sodas are significantly less expensive than drinks! The bad news is I can't drive, which is too bad, because I would be the superb designated driver! ;)

Have maybe 3-4 drinks per year, at the most. That's actually up from zero drinks per year until I was in my early 30s...as even the smell of beer/wine can make me gag. So when I do have a drink, I make sure to stick to the good stuff...rum, vodka, whiskey, etc.

My buddies and I had a good rule in college that I wish more people would use: When you wanted a drink, it had to be the good (expensive) stuff, and if you wanted to smoke, it had to be cigars. Partially because we believed in quality over quantity, but mostly because none of us could afford more than 1-2 drinks/cigars at a time, ever. So it was a way to make sure we never developed a habit (becoming an alcoholic, addicted to nicotine, etc.).

Anyway, compared to 90-95% of people here, I suppose the above makes me a non-drinker. I'm thankful I never developed a taste for "rent-a-pee," as I don't know how some of you guys can afford to make the mortgage payments from the sounds of how much alcohol you consume.

Don't drink, never have. I drink a glass of wine occasionally or a Bacardi. Just never understood the fascination.

I dont drink, didnt have a problem with it either, just dont care for the taste, especially beer. I know I'll need a flame suit for that. Never really had a problem with any friends I didnt care if they drank and they liked have someone around for a DD. My house was actually the place to hang out for a long time. My dad started giving me beer around 10 or 11 with dinner every once in a while and I could have a beer at family functions also

My wife wasnt a drinker when I met her and now her medications prevent it, but she use to be a partier in college. Her view is the same as mine neither of us care what someone else does as long as they are not sloppy drunk breaking stuff or fightingat our place and if we are uncomfortable somewhere we just leave.

My Dad and two uncles were alcoholics. I saw them do really stupid things, and say incredibly stupid things; and all three died early. Decided it wasn't for me, and haven't had a drink since I was 18. Glad I never started.

We don't serve alcohol, but we allow people to bring a moderate amount. However, they are on notice that drunkenness in my house is verboten.

I'm basically a non-drinker. Been so all my life. I've had alcohol a few times, but only enough to be drunk once really. I can't stand the taste of beer, but I don't mind harder or fruity tasting drinks. However, I usually don't bother with it at all. It's never been a problem. I was made fun of for it a bit in college until people started realizing that I was perfect to be around since no one ever had to worry about who was the DD. I've not had a drop of alcohol since my honeymoon 7 1/2 years ago.

I've drank a ton in my life, but as I get older I drink less and less. It takes me forever to recover, so I don't mind that my drinking days are behind me.

I do, however, enjoy a good glass of scotch or a

Micro brew every once in a while.

wanted to add i drank my way out of my first college, and started when i was 16.

my second school i partied a lot byt studied, so i wasnt always a non drinker

I drink just a few times a year. Biggest reason is my father and mother both had major issues with alcohol in their lives and I have their addictive personality. So it's mostly choice.

Being sober is way over rated...with that said i only get drunk on rare occasions now...but i had a lot of fun drinking when i was younger...and i got into a lot of trouble also

I really enjoyed drinking and did it to the point it became an issue and I had to stop. I don't drink at all now,(I do miss it).

I let people come over and drink and it really doesn't bother me. And I haven't had anyone give me any crap about my not drinking either. I have avoided a few situations though because I would've only enjoyed the party if I was drinking.

It will be over tomorrow and you can go back to your routine, hydrated and not hung-over.

Very similar for me, although I do enjoy a glass of red wine when I get home from work.

I used to be a bit of a problem drinker. Quit 1.5 years ago, though I had gone over 5 years previously without drinking then started again until it got to be a problem. Other people drinking doesn't bother me much unless they're obnoxiously so. I don't get tempted often but all I need to remember is that if I start again I'll eventually be back to buying a couple of bottles of Pedialyte every night at a different store than I bought my whiskey from. So, it isn't very hard at all not to.

AcerFC is straight-edge, I believe. Maybe he'll check in here.
yeah. I made the decision at an early age to not drink or do drugs. That was without ever doing either. So it doesnt affect me when people drink. As the old sxe saying goes. I'm drug free but all my friends will take free drugs. I don't judge anyone. Personal decision

Do you allow alcohol into your home?

I think some of you guys are hazy on the concept of a "non-drinker."

yup. I buy it for all of our parties and fantasy drafts

I developed an allergy to beer at some point in my mid-20s. I cannot have a sip of beer without experiencing horrible pain in my throat and back.

I have no problems with liquor.

straight edge was the group that rose up out of the punk movement, right? I remember reading somewhere that a lot of them are vegan, too. Is that accurate?

I have a drink every few months, so not sure if that classifies me as a non-drinker. When I do drink, it is usually more of a cream based Bailey's type of thing (love Buttery Nipples) or a White Russian. I also enjoy a nice lava flow in a tropical setting.

I would love to learn about and enjoy wine, but the taste doesn't seem to appeal to me. Maybe I don't have the palette for it.

I don't care for most alcohol just because of the taste, not because I have some moral opposition to it. In fact, I encourage others to take advantage of me being the designated driver - as long as they don't hurl in my car. Given a choice, I'm happy with a diet Coke or something.

My Dad was also an angry alcoholic - I don't know if that makes a difference. I'd leave that one to a psychologist.

Have not had a sip since college. Wife does not drink either (came from an alcoholic family).

So we never have any booze in the house. Neither of us care though if people drink in our house. I host a monthly poker game and the guys always bring over various drinks.

correctThe vegan thing was secondary when it first started and picked up steam with NYHC bands like youth of today and then it went real extreme with Earth Crisis.

I am not and have never been vegan so they are not tied together
