Anyone buying Gonzo for his last 6-9 weeks? (1 Viewer)

Just curious if anyone that believes they are a legitimate SB contender is buying him now for your stretch run, knowing he's retiring at the end of this year. If someone has recently bought, how much did you give?

I can't recall any other season where we knew a player that was retiring the following year that you might actually want to buy, knowing he's only good for 6-9 more games max.

I have a TE need and was debating giving R. Jennings for him, who is now and likely a RB2 for the rest of the year. I'm loaded on RB.

I have been trying to move him all year myself, no bites. I still think he comes back next year....

I am thinking about buying, actually. Stuck with Pitta/Finley at TE, which isn't helping me much right now. I'm loaded at QB, WR, and have solid RBs, which in a 16-teamer can get it done, but the hole at TE currently is killing me.

I'm checking in on his price...

I also wondered if he'd return for one more go, especially if they manage to get to the super bowl and lose, or if they get to the NFC Championship and fall just short... would he give it one last shot? Or, is this for sure the end?

In a league where I am the likely favorite to win it, I was offered the following:

I give: Broyles & Ballard

I get: Gonzo & McCluster

I am truly torn because I think Broyles at least has a bright future, but no denying Gonzo will finish the year as a top 3 TE (if not #1) unless he gets injured.

I considered it in a couple of my 2 TE leagues to pair him up with Gronk. Just wasn't feasible, I own White in one league and Jones in the other and he was asking too much imo.

There is a team in one of my leagues with a 2-5 record that owns him. I have thrown out an offer of one of my tight ends (Celek, Pitta, Olsen) plus a 3rd rounder for him.

IMHO I think this is a very small price to pay, even in a dynasty and even if Gonzo leaves after this year. WRs like Broyles and TE's like Ballard seem to sprout up every year. If you have a chance to win the $$$ and Gonzo all but guarantees you get there, you do it.

Tiki Barber, 2006.
Did we know it was his last year for sure though? Maybe I'm forgetting, but I thought there was a chance he would return? Either way, it is an unusual dilemma, how much are should dynasty owners be willing to sacrifice long term to win now. Although I think Broyles has a bright future, because I have 6 or 7 WRs I rank higher, I'm actually considering it. Gonzo averages almost 8 more points a game than my current starter (Gresham)

1. MJD isn't out the rest of the year2. Since when does a RB2 (not a high end RB2 either) warrant the #1 Fantasy TE in the NFL?

Hard to say anything is a sure bet, but I would have this lineupRodgersFoster, APHarvin, Cruz, FitzGonzoAnd last flex between MJD, Bowe, or Cobb

Barber announced in October that he was calling it quits after the season. Also, while it can be inferred from the title, you might want to explicitly state that you're talking Dynasty to avoid any potential confusion.

Good point, but I did put that in he post title (the 2nd line)

Oh, sorry. Can't see the second line on my phone. I just noticed one or two people who seemed to be confused and thinking redraft- probably more mobile users.

Bought a bit high on him in a 16 teamer. Paid Ballard, Bennett, and a 3rd for him and James Starks to back up my Alex Green. Ballard was just named starter, Bennett had "messed up some ish" in his knee and I had few alternatives in a 1.25 PPR TE league.

For those on the fence or wanting to gauge value, I did make the following trade for Gonzo in my 12 team PPR dynasty

I gave: Broyles, Ballard, 3rd

I got: Gonzo, 2nd, L. Robinson

Bret Farbe for his last 5 seasons

I had Gonzo in a MOX HP League (14 teams, 2PPR for TE's). I'm dead last in the league and moved him for a 2013 1st & 2nd. Trade went down about 2 weeks ago.

People were buying Barry Sanders after he retired. Enough people thought he was coming back when the Lions traded him, that he was getting drafted in redraft leagues three years later.

I made a trade today for Gonzalez in a league where I'm 7-0 and looking to win this season. I had to give up Ben Tate for him.
