Anyone else benching LJ week 1 in favor of a lower ranked player? (1 Viewer)

I know the guys here have him ranked pretty high this week (top 10), but I'm having a hard time starting LJ against the Patriots week 1. Seems to me pretty much any RB3 with upside could be a better option. The game will likely quickly get out of hand for the Chiefs and they'll have to abandon that running game early. Could be a decent opportunity for Bowe and TonyG, but, as much as I am really high on LJ this year, this just seems like a bad spot for him.

Thoughts?

Thought about it for Willie Parker, but then decided to that Parker would probably just tick me off when he gets pulled on every 3rd down and at the goaline. At least LJ has a good shot of a 1 yard td or 2 to make what could be a bad game into a decent fantasy game. NE defense isn't that good. I didn't draft him in the 1st round to bench him week 1. I'm gambling.

I know you should always start your studs but NE will be loading up to stop LJ and make Croyle beat them. I'm playing Bowe this week thinking that KC will be playing from behind and benched LJ. Luckily I had B Jacobs and still have AP up Monday night.

debated starting Maroney over him (but Jamal, my number 2, is gimpy so I'm plugging Maroney in there). Thought about Fred Taylor over him in another league but I couldn't pull the trigger.

No, LJ will touch the ball A LOT. Even if NE blows them out, LJ is used in the passing game. He is an explosive enough player that with enough touches he could break one. I wouldn't say I'm expecting a great week from him. But I'm not willing to risk not starting him for a lesser player who will also have less "opportunity."

Why would you start a "RB3 with upside" over a RB1 with upside?
Matchups. I've got Turner against DET (the worst run defense last year), and despite that he might not qualify as a "RB1 with upside" in many peoples' eyes, I'm thinking he has the potential for a much better day than LJ. :goodposting:

starting Galloway over him in my keeper league, we have pretty flexible lineups so I am going with him instead of LJ. The matchup against the Saints with MacKenzie out is too tempting.
