Anyone else disappointed with Leinarts comments? (1 Viewer)

This thread should be locked due to all the fake rage...

Leinart's comment caught my attention too, but he said it right after going out of his way to compliment Young. I actually like the fact that he said that. He is a competitor and even in defeat isn't about to roll over and die.

And he was probably correct. USC is likely the better team. They just got whooped by one of the best college football athletes that's come along in a long while.

IF they played a seven game series, my money would be on USC to win it.
I don't remember seeing Vince Young play defense for the Longhorns? Just like your money was on USC for the Rose Bowl right? Texas is the better team and proved it where it counts on the field. West Coast whinners. And another thing USC only won 1 National Championship, deal with it.
No, they've only one 1 BCS championship in recent years...They've won *zero* NCAA National Championships...

They've won 2 of the last 3 AP championships.

I don't think it was that big of a deal. He was probably just caught up in the emotion of losing his first game in 35 tries. It's been a while since he's had to deal with that, ya know, then someone sticks a mic in his face on the field, and voila...the reporter got what they wanted.

From comments he's made since then, it appears he's thought better of it.

Also, he and RB went to the Texas locker room after the game and congratulated VY and told him to pass it along to everyone else.

Good kids, imho.

However, I won't try to spin his comments like this guy:

[Leinart's comment caught my attention too, but he said it right after going out of his way to compliment Young.
Leinart complimented Young profusely, then said SC was the better team. To me that equates to saying Texas is a one-man team, which they are definitely not. Did Vince stop SC's offense on 4th and 2? No. Without that huge stop, we're not even having this conversation. The better team won that play and went on to win the game. Did Vince play TE (10 catches by David Thomas, whom SC fans were supremely confident would be shut down), Or WR (17-186)? No. Or any position in a dominant performance by the o-line? No. Or RB (16-91, 2 TD)? No.

I can understand how the kid got caught up in the moment and made that statement, I just disagree.

It was a team effort. If SC had had the better team, they'd have won.

That said...it was one of the best, if not THE best football game I've ever seen.

i thought that was a backhanded compliment. instead of saying football player or quarterback, he used the word athlete. as if to say, i've won a heisman and 2 championships using my brain and superior passing skills that i've worked hard for, you're just an player that lives off his talent to run. now go to the back to pick up your championship, n****. it's the same criticism of mcnabb, vick, and culpepper. :boxing:

really, he was just pissed and frustrated that he lost to a better team, and couldn't accept it for a brief while. i can just picture what was going through his mind as he saw vince young score the last td and he couldn't do a damn thing. "Damn that guy is ruining my perfect college career, mutha%^&*"

I think both sides are over-reacting a little bit here. I snickered when I heard Lienart make the statement. Should he be vilified for it? Probably not. But should he be completely excused for it either? No way.I questioned Lienart's motivations for staying in school last year. After all, he had just won the National Championship AND the Heisman Trophy in the same year. What more is there left to prove? When I learned that he only took one class last fall to remain eligible (is it correct that I heard it was a ballroom dancing course?), I again questioned his motivations. Granted, he probably had a real good time taking one class, but most athletes who stay usually move on to grad school. As an aside, how does a player retain his eligibility only taking one class? Then we hear in December that USC had to apply to the the NCAA for him to retain his eligibility for the Rose Bowl because he had violated NCAA rules by aoppearing in ads for ESPN.Now we have his comments after the loss to UT.Taking it alone, there's probably not that much there. But looking at this as a whole, it does provide some insight into his character.
