Anyone else tired of fantasy sports buzz words? (1 Viewer)

guppy, shark, sleeper, bust, etc...

:wall:

Actually, its not so much the words as it is the people who throw them around haphazzardly, describing things with them left and right and having not much of a clue at all as to what it is they are really saying.

"Addai disappoints" is only the most recent thread

Addai a bust?

I'd really wish people would stop posting meaningless threads in the Shark Pool but maybe that's just me

"Production" and "productivity" get used way too often. I read a sentence in another thread referring to T Bell: "if he gets 200 carries, I expect him to produce similar productivity to last year." :loco:

.....or "he's athletic" when referring to African American player and "he's very smart" when referring to a white player.

I don't know, I rather like this description of playing public leagues:

"guppy-infested waters"

No, no, no... white players aren't "very smart", they're "deceptively fast".Seriously, has any black WR ever been described as "deceptively fast"? Of course not. It's just the Eddie McCaffreys and Joe Juriviciouses of the world.

Everyone should check out the CWRAA blog. The CWRAA is the Caucasian Wide Receivers of America. I dunno what the extra A is. Maybe they were supposed to be the Caucasian Wide Recivers of America Association, or maybe it's just a typo.

Also, read this article to hear about the horrors and discrimination that white wide receivers face today in the NFL. It's really a tragic tale.

I agree totally! The problem is that Fantasy Footballers today suffer from an overall degradation of linguistinal fortitude. The obstination of of the average player combined with euphemisms of today's lingo provide for a palatte of boisterous enunciations of jargonal utterances. This is known as FFBE. Fantasy Football Ebonics. I have struggled for many years to banish FFBE to no avail. Until one day I found a champion for the cause. A man who's background was above reproach! I worked and tired to get this beacon of hope the the highest levels of football, but was beaten down over and over by the FFBE'ers. They think they've beaten me. They think I've given up. BUT MARK MY WORDS! DENNIS MILLER WILL ONCE AGAIN ANNOUNCE MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL!

Has "shark" jumped the shark?
I may be one of the few guys in here old enough to know what that meant! :lmao:
The actual jumping of the shark might have taken place a long time ago, but the phrase "jump the shark" really only entered into the lexicon within the last 15 years. I've never seen an episode of Happy Days in my life, but I still know what "jump the shark" means and how it got that meaning. :)

Hmmm, he still made me feel old, but he stripped me from the old and wise angle......I feel violated

Along those same lines, almost 100% of the time when a TV personality mentions that someone is "articulate," they are referring to a black person. As if it's a huge shock that the black person in question isn't offering up a soundbite which is reminiscent of Leon Spinks. It's a given that ALL white people are articulate, so it's especially important to point out an articulate black man when you can manage to find one.If you think I'm nuts, pay attention to whom they are referring when you hear that word in the future.

I'm Johnny Whitebread, and that stuff pisses me off.....

Agreed. All joking aside about the "deceptively fast" thing, but there really is so much racial stigma in the NFL. Rush Limbaugh goes off on Donnie Mac because he's a black QB, the media goes nuts for Brock Forsey because he's a white RB. I live in Florida and get a lot of Jaguar games, and they're ridiculous. The commentators always feel the need to point out that Byron Leftwich is a great pocket passer- because, of course, all black QBs are supposed to make their living by scrambling- and that Matt Jones is incredibly fast- is he even the fastest WR on his own team? I mean, a 4.4 is great, but there are tons of WRs who beat that, and announcers don't spend all day talking about how fast THEY are...

This thread has hit its ceiling. Do not reach on this post - its ADP will make it available on the WW, then you can play matchups with it, unless it goes on IR. If you do want to take a flyer on this sleeper post (it is ranked low on the VBD chart), just remember, it may be in the dreaded RBBC by week 14.

Sadly, FF sharks can read this and it makes sense to them.

:hey: After three days it is official. This thread is a major BUST! Time to cut your losses
