Anyone else's kids making slime (1 Viewer)

I can't wait for this fad to be over. We have had to hide the glue and food coloring from my daughter.

All the time. That stuff is everywhere. She's a kid, I dont care. We clean it up best we can as we go. Only rule I have it she buys her own contact solution. I'll be damned if I ever go to take my contacts out and the bottle is empty.

Yes.  Daily. This #### is out of control.

Had no idea this was a national craze.

Can we get Trump to do something about this?

That's funny - had no idea this was a thing.  But yes, my kids have been doing it too.

How does this stuff get started??

No longer allowed to be "made" at my house, but I come home to find that my daughter made it somewhere else and it's sitting in a Tupperware container in our kitchen.

my daughter has been making boatloads - but it came in a Science Kit from Discovery Kids - not gonna have my Princess mucking about with those homemade 'Jr. Meth Lab' concoctions

I read some story about some girl getting chemical burns trying to make it.
My wife had been making this for years when she was a kindergarten teacher without issues.  It has like a teaspoon or borax in it.  Not sure what kids these days are doing to get chemical burns.  She also had the kids play with it in zip lock bags vs direct contact.

Think of those poor kids on Double Dare or You Can't Do That on Television back in the day.  Their lives must be ruined now.

Yes - but it seemed to go away as quickly as it arrived.

It was a craze from a little before Christmas and haven't seen anything more in the last couple of months.

I blame everything my kids do on youtube. But hard for me to get too mad. Youtube is like the greatest web site ever.

Surely an unexpected boon for Elmers.
Ha, one of my students came in today and said he couldnt glue his HW because all the stores were out of glue

Gave him a zero anyway. I asked him why he didn't buy a glue stick or tape. He had no answer.

Just require that if they want to make it, they actually have to learn the chemistry involved with the process and report back to you before making it.  That ought to kill it.  If not, then at least they learn something.

My daughter and her friend were making it non -stop for a month or so. They did a slime business and I think they each netted about $60. It was a good learning experience for her on how a business works (she's in 6th grade).

If it wasn't for that I don't think I could have tolerated it.

The WSJ had a front page article on this slime fad about a month ago.

I have been looking for glue for my daughter, not for slime but of other projects, for a few weeks now.  Everyone is out.

I made slime when I was a kid too, but what are kids these days using the elmer's glue for?  Lube?  Jergens down?

I was able to get my 11 y.o. girl to go with Silly Putty to calm her addiction. I bought a bunch on Amazon with her saying she wouldn't make any to get it, and she seems to have broken from it! :pickle: :knock on wood:

Banning didn’t work - she outsmarted me.  I still don’t get the obsession but it’s been 9 months.
Our ban didn't work until she ruined her aunts $500 blinds and realized she was paying for it. Put that #### down quick after that.

Wicked reprints of Beetle Bailey, amirite.?

Absolutely. Padme (see my other thread) is obsessed with the stuff. She has different recipes for stretchy, slimy, solid, liquid, and other types of slime. And she knows the recipes by heart.

She got a 3 gallon jug of Elmer's glue for Christmas and it's almost gone already.

This has completely taken over my house. My 7 and 9 year old along with my 11 year old niece are obsessed. They go thru gallons of glue like it’s nothing. Now my 2 year old constantly has to have some in her hand and if she doesn’t she flips out. My wife and sister in law just went in on this huge pack of little containers because they were using all of the tupperware in both houses.

How long can this go on?  It’s been longer than shopkins and fidget spinners lasted.

I heard them all freaking on Saturday over a new “butter slime” they were working on. WTF!

Next Saturday, my place, soon to be 12-year-old daughter's birthday party, we have a table set up in the laundry room with all the slime making ingredients a mad slime scientist could ask for. 8 girls all making this crap.....can't wait.

Wife and kids have been making alot of it but never really looked like slime.  She tried several recipes from the internet, then one time 2 year old was watching her make it grabbed one of the ingredients and dumped more in than called for and was the first time it actually looked like slime.

My 3 little girls have become little chemists making slime(tooth paste, liquid soap, glue)...damn you you tube

pretty sure they will be breaking bad soon enough

It was.  They were selling so much glue, they couldn't keep up with demand.  They contracted with my company to fill millions of bottles over and above what their own packaging capabilities were.  It came and went pretty quickly, but we got a nice payday out of it and Elmer's Glue as another recognizable brand to add to our portfolio of business partners.
