Anyone Ever Model or Have Kids Model? (1 Viewer)

Through a friend who's a pro photographer, we've been approached by a legitimate agency regarding our daughter (almost 13). I am very wary but I will likely meet with the owner to hear her out. What should I ask?

I would ask yourself why do you want her photographed? Did she ever express interest in becoming a model? Also, why now? If she's interested, there will be plenty of time when she's 18 to pursue it.

Yes, she's expressed interest. If she has a realistic shot of being successful, I think it would be interesting and valuable experience that few have.

IDK, they say something like 20 million Americans have at least tried cocaine.

What's your point? Trying a legal vocation is akin to trying illegal drugs? I said in the first post that I am skeptical. However, I will investigate it on behalf of my daughter.

how much money does the legitimate agency want?
None. Why so cynical?
I am very wary
I am wary of the industry. I know the agency is legit because my friend "discovered" the owner in the 70s. She started her first agency after her modeling career was over and then sold it to Ford. I've been warned about the scammers who will ask for payment etc. This is not that situation.

I was a child model. Can't tell you much about it though. Fisher Price toys when I was 10-12. Parents put the money toward college.

Personally, I doubt I would let my daughter do this at 13. Seems like you are asking for an eating disorder and/or a giant ego. Not to mention the the creepos that would be jerking it to her.

Its sad that we go to this but that would be my fear. Keep that wariness. If she does it, don't ever leave the room. Always have veto power power on the wardrobe.

Ask what type of modeling, what the pics would be used for, what's the pay?

Maybe it's modeling jeans for Target. Doesn't necessarily have to be creepy. Tell the guy what you're comfortable with and ask how much control you get over what types of outfits, which pics will be used, etc.

Watch some of the reality shows, and see what you think then.

Dance moms, toddlers and tiaras, ect. Its not the agent/vocation you have to worry about...its the crazy obsessed ####ed up parents.

JMHO GB

Yeah that's crazy stuff but not really what we're looking at.

I more worried about the casting director making a flippant remark that affects my daughter's psyche.

Wrong business for your daughter to be in if you're worried about any comments affecting your daughter's psyche.

My daughter (13) just started doing a little bit of this through a local agency. We signed her up for some classes that taught basics of walking, turns, poise, introducing yourself, etc. She expressed interest and we thought it might help her with shyness, confidence. From there, she has done a few local runway shows (nothing big) but is looking to possibly do more locally.

I would want to know where the agency places its models, details of the contract (is she prohibited from doing anything outside this agency), fees, percentages, etc. Some agencies focus on getting their models to IMTA, which is a big national auditioning event in NYC, where they can be signed by national/international people. Others focus on placing their models with local/regional clients for smaller scale stuff. Very important depending on what you/she wants to do.

You better work, cover girl, work it girl, give a twirl

Do your thing on the runway

Work, supermodel, you better work it, girl of the world

Wet your lips and make it love to the camera

Work, turn to the left, work, now turn to the right

Work, sachey chantey

Work, turn to the left, work, now turn to the right

Work, sachey chantey

It don't matter what you wear

They're checking out your savior fair

And it don't matter what you do

'Cause everything looks good on you
nice words of wisdom floppo.
